Deaf Bonce SA272 Review: 1,500 W, 18 mm Xmax and the D1-or-D2 Question
Updated: Oct 6
The Deaf Bonce SA272 is the middle one of the three SA-series 12-inch Apocalypse subs we sell, rated at 1,500 W RMS (3,000 W max) with a 2.75-inch CCAW voice coil and 18 mm of Xmax, and offered with dual 1-ohm (D1) or dual 2-ohm (D2) coils. Its India MRP is ₹49,990, between the 1,000 W SA252 and the 2,000 W SA302. It's for buyers building a loud single-sub system who want more excursion than the SA252 offers, and who are ready to match the coil version to a specific amplifier rather than guess. Choose your version on our Deaf Bonce SA272 product page.

The short version
1,500 W RMS, a 2.75-inch coil and 18 mm of Xmax (36 mm mechanical) in a 12-inch Apocalypse driver.
The D1 and D2 suit different amplifiers, and Deaf Bonce's published Atom ratings make the match easy to check.
A Qts of 0.34 to 0.36 points towards a ported box, but no box volume is printed on the product page.
Expect an electrical system that can feed more than 100 A at full output.

Choosing between D1 and D2
A single SA272 D2 presents 1 ohm with its coils in parallel or 4 ohms in series. A single D1 presents 2 ohms in series or 0.5 ohms in parallel. Every Atom amplifier we sell is rated down to 1 ohm and no lower, so the D1's 0.5-ohm option needs a different kind of amplifier altogether.
Here's how the published Atom ratings (at 14.4 V) line up with the sensible wiring options:
Setup | Final load | Closest Atom (rated output) |
|---|---|---|
One D2, coils in parallel | 1 ohm | Atom 1600.1 PRO (1,600 W) |
One D1, coils in series | 2 ohms | Atom 2.5K PRO (1,510 W) |
Two D2s, each in series, pair in parallel | 2 ohms | Atom 5.5K PRO (2,850 W) |
The Atom 1600.1 PRO route is the more affordable single-sub option. The Atom 2.5K PRO delivers almost exactly the SA272's rating into 2 ohms and makes 2,500 W into 1 ohm, so it also leaves room for a second sub later. For a pair, the Atom 5.5K PRO sits just under the combined 3,000 W rating.
Box planning from the published figures
Deaf Bonce's product page carries no recommended enclosure, so start from the driver data: Fs of 30.63 Hz (D1) or 31.12 Hz (D2), Qts of 0.34 or 0.36, and Vas of 29.52 or 30.74 litres. Qts figures this low are usually associated with ported boxes, which is also where most loud single-12 builds end up. Model the box with the version you buy, because the D1 and D2 parameters differ slightly.
With 18 mm of Xmax, the cone travels a long way at full power, so give it a stiff, braced box and a generous port to keep air noise in check. If the amplifier has a subsonic filter, as the Atom PRO models do, set it below the port tuning so the cone isn't left unloaded at very low frequencies. Leave at least 179.5 mm of clear depth behind the baffle.
Power, cable and the 100-amp mark
At 14.4 V, 1,500 W of output already corresponds to more than 100 A, before the amplifier's losses. That's the point where the battery, alternator and wiring become part of the system design rather than an afterthought. Deaf Bonce fits the Atom 2.5K PRO with a 0 AWG power terminal, against 4 AWG on the 1600.1 PRO, which tells you the size of cable the bigger amplifier expects; our Tchernov 0 AWG cable review covers what a main feed of that size involves.
Voltage matters too. Deaf Bonce rates the Atom 2.5K PRO at 2,500 W into 1 ohm at 14.4 V but only 1,720 W at 12 V. A tired battery, thin earth strap or long cable run at a hot Delhi traffic light will cost output, so fuse the main feed close to the battery and check voltage at the amplifier terminals once the system is installed.
What owners and reviewers say about the Deaf Bonce SA272
We couldn't find any owner reviews or independent tests of the SA272 to read when we checked in October 2026. The official page is a specification sheet, and the major retailer and forum sites we tried were blocked to automated access or showed nothing relevant. Rather than guess what owners think, we've kept this review to the published data.
If you've installed an SA272, we'd value a note on your box, amplifier and car. Verified owner feedback will be added here.
SA272 vs SA252, SA302 and MF-12R
Against the cheaper SA252 (₹39,990), the SA272 adds 500 W of rating, a 2.75-inch coil in place of 2.5 inches and 3 mm more Xmax, and our listing offers it in D2 as well as D1, where our SA252 listing is D1 only. Both share the 279.3 mm cut-out. The SA302 (₹59,990) shares the SA272's 179.5 mm depth, 279.3 mm cut-out and 18 mm Xmax, but steps up to a 3-inch coil and 2,000 W. Its smaller Vas (21.0 to 24.0 litres) means a box designed for one isn't automatically right for the other.
The Machete MF-12R (₹27,990) is rated at 1,200 W with a 3-inch CCAW coil and 15 mm of Xmax. On paper the SA272 adds 300 W, 3 mm of Xmax and a D1 option for ₹22,000 more.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
It's for buyers who want one serious 12-inch in a ported box, have budgeted for an amplifier in the 1,500 W class and the wiring to feed it, and may add a second sub later.
Skip it if your amplifier makes well under 1,500 W at the load you can wire, if boot space can't spare a ported 12-inch box, or if rated watts per rupee is the priority, where the MF-12R is cheaper.
Installation notes for Indian cars
A ported 12-inch box with 179.5 mm of driver depth eats a real share of a sedan or hatchback boot, so measure before the box is built. Fix the enclosure and amplifier to solid points, keep the amplifier ventilated rather than buried under luggage in a boot that gets very hot in summer, and grommet every cable that passes through metal.
Expect rattles from the number plate, boot lid and parcel shelf at these levels; our guide to sound damping in a car shows where to start. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad and can build a ported or sealed box to the volume you model.
Price and where to buy
The Deaf Bonce SA272 has an MRP of ₹49,990, with the D1 and D2 versions on one listing. We often sell below MRP; see the current offer on our SA272 store listing.

Bottom line
The SA272 is the middle of the three SA-series 12-inch Apocalypse subs we sell: 1,500 W, 18 mm of Xmax and a coil choice that maps neatly onto published Atom ratings. Its gaps are the same as its siblings': no box volume on the product page and no owner feedback we could find. Pick the coil version for your amplifier first, model the box second, and budget for the wiring.
Deaf Bonce SA272 FAQ
Which Atom amplifier suits one Deaf Bonce SA272?
For a D2 wired in parallel to 1 ohm, the Atom 1600.1 PRO is rated at 1,600 W into 1 ohm. For a D1 wired in series to 2 ohms, the Atom 2.5K PRO is rated at 1,510 W into 2 ohms. Both figures are at 14.4 V.
Can I wire the SA272 D1 to 0.5 ohms?
Wiring its two 1-ohm coils in parallel gives 0.5 ohms, but only use that with an amplifier rated for it. The Atom amplifiers we sell are rated down to 1 ohm, so with them a single D1 should be wired in series for 2 ohms.
Will a box built for the SA302 suit the SA272?
Not automatically. The two share a 179.5 mm depth, a 279.3 mm cut-out and 18 mm of Xmax, but the SA272's Vas of about 30 litres is larger than the SA302's 21.0 to 24.0 litres. Model the box for the driver you actually fit.
