The DS18 SMD-5000.1D is a Class D monoblock subwoofer amplifier developed by DS18 with Steve Meade Designs, rated at 5,000 W RMS at 1 Ω, 3,500 W at 2 Ω and 2,000 W at 4 Ω, all stated at 14.4 V. DS18 prints no peak or max figure for it. Its India MRP is ₹2,99,990, the highest of the three DS18 monoblocks compared below, and it suits a subwoofer system built around 0 AWG power wiring and a 520 A fuse. You can see it on our DS18 SMD-5000.1D product page.

DS18 SMD-5000.1D Class D monoblock subwoofer amplifier by Steve Meade Designs

Quick summary

  • RMS is 5,000 W at 1 Ω, 3,500 W at 2 Ω and 2,000 W at 4 Ω, all at 14.4 V. DS18 states no peak figure and publishes no SPL or competition data for it.

  • 5,000 W at 14.4 V means at least about 347 A drawn from the supply (our arithmetic, not a DS18 figure); DS18 specifies 0 AWG terminals and a 520 A fuse.

  • DS18 lists dual fans, a built-in VM-1 voltmeter, RGB lighting with an IR remote, a remote bass knob, a link mode and no high-level input.

  • DS18's page shows no customer reviews, and we have read no independent ones.

Figures come from DS18's SMD-5000.1D page and its SMD manual, which covers eight SMD amplifiers. The spec table matches our listing. The page gives 462 mm overall and 420 mm for the heatsink; the manual prints both unlabelled, so confirm the footprint before cutting a mounting space.

Every figure is RMS at 14.4 V

DS18's page for this amplifier has no peak or max number, unlike the G3600.1D, whose page carries a 3,600 W peak figure. Each rating is tied to a load and to 14.4 V, and DS18 publishes none at any other voltage, though it gives an operating range of 8.5 V – 16.9 V. Neither its page nor its manual supplies an SPL, dyno or competition figure, so any such number you come across has another source.

What 5,000 W at 14.4 V asks of the supply

Divide 5,000 W by 14.4 V and the answer is about 347 A, a minimum because no amplifier is 100% efficient; it is arithmetic of ours, not a DS18 figure. DS18's page asks for 0 AWG power and ground and a 520 A fuse that is not included. The manual gives no battery or alternator guidance, so ask your installer about the supply.

The manual calls for an in-line fuse or breaker within 18 inches (about 46 cm) of the battery, fitted last, and a ground to bare, pre-drilled chassis metal. Its generic text also mentions 4 AWG or larger wire, which does not square with the 0 AWG terminals, so follow the page. Our review of the Tchernov 0 AWG power cable covers one cable of that gauge; check any cable and lug against the terminals.

Voltmeter, lighting and link mode

The VM-1 sits under the cover. DS18's manual says it monitors power draw and demand in real time but does not explain the display units or how to read or calibrate it. The IR remote controls the LED patterns and colours. In link (strap) mode a master and slave switch and an RCA daisy chain link units, with a 2 Ω minimum strappable impedance in the manual; read that page in full before linking.

DS18's own documents disagree in places. The infrasonic filter is 10 Hz – 30 Hz in the spec table and 10 Hz – 50 Hz in the manual's text; phase is listed as 0 – 180 degrees while the text describes a two-position switch; and the link-mode page gives 9 V – 16 V against the 8.5 V – 16.9 V on the page. Confirm on the unit before planning a tune around any of them.

Heat, size and where it can go

DS18 lists dual fans. At 462 mm long and 6.8 kg gross, it is the longest and heaviest of the three monoblocks below. The manual wants a completely dry position with good air circulation, advises against under-seat or engine-bay mounting, and says never to mount the amplifier to a subwoofer enclosure.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 SMD-5000.1D

When we checked in October 2026, DS18's own SMD-5000.1D page showed no customer reviews, and we have not read independent reviews or forum threads for it. Everything here rests on DS18's page and manual, so treat claims about real-world output as unverified.

SMD-5000.1D against the FRP-8K/TI and G3600.1D

The DS18 FRP-8K/TI (₹1,49,990 MRP, ₹1,50,000 less) is listed at 8,000 W RMS at 1 Ω, with a 9,000 W burst figure that is not RMS, and DS18 states no supply voltage for any of its ratings. The SMD-5000.1D's 5,000 W is stated at 14.4 V, so the two are not rated on the same stated basis and the gap in watts is not like-for-like. The FRP-8K/TI is 403 mm long and 5 kg gross.

The DS18 G3600.1D (₹39,990 MRP, ₹2,60,000 less) is listed at 1,200 W RMS at 1 Ω, has a 4 GA terminal and a 120 A fuse rating, and is 305 mm long and 2 kg gross. Of the three compared here, it is the only one that lists a high-level input; DS18 lists No on the SMD-5000.1D.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the SMD-5000.1D if you have planned a supply for 0 AWG wiring and a 520 A fuse, want ratings DS18 states at 14.4 V, and want the built-in voltmeter and link mode. New to amplifiers? Our guide to the need for an amplifier is a good start.

Look elsewhere if you need a high-level input, want to read owner reviews first (we found none), or have one modest subwoofer in mind, where the G3600.1D's 4 GA terminal and 120 A fuse rating are a lighter job.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Plan the cable, the 520 A fuse holder, the ground point and the mounting space before the subwoofer. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and can build a custom subwoofer enclosure to your subwoofer's published volume. DS18's manual points to ds18.com for the warranty; the warranty is per DS18's published terms, so confirm India terms with us.

Price and where to buy

The DS18 SMD-5000.1D has an India MRP of ₹2,99,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the SMD-5000.1D listing, which describes it as a genuine DS18 product.

DS18 SMD-5000.1D - another view

The bottom line

The SMD-5000.1D is a 5,000 W RMS monoblock at 1 Ω and 14.4 V, with no peak number from DS18. It asks for 0 AWG wiring, a 520 A fuse and, by our arithmetic, at least about 347 A at the input. With no owner reviews found and no SPL data from DS18, decide on the specification and the installation, not the headline number.

DS18 SMD-5000.1D FAQ

Is the DS18 SMD-5000.1D really 5,000 W?

DS18 rates it at 5,000 W RMS at 1 Ω and 14.4 V, with 3,500 W at 2 Ω and 2,000 W at 4 Ω. It prints no peak figure, and 5,000 W is the 1 Ω rating only.

What fuse and cable does the SMD-5000.1D need?

DS18 lists 0 AWG power input terminals and a 520 A recommended fuse that is not included. The manual adds an in-line fuse or breaker within 18 inches of the battery, fitted last.

Does the SMD-5000.1D have a high-level input?

DS18 lists the high-level input as No. The inputs are low-level Tiffany RCA connectors rated 200 mV to 6 V, so a source without RCA outputs would need a converter or a DSP in between.
