Dynaudio Esotar2 650 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons
Quick summary: the buying decision
The Esotar² 650 is a 6.5-inch mid/woofer (Esotar² reference series), rated at 200 W long-term (IEC) and 1,000 W transient (10 ms) at 4 ohm, with a recommended range of 50 – 4,000 Hz. It covers the midbass and lower midrange: Dynaudio recommends an active band-pass of 100 to 2,000 Hz, which meets the Esotar² 110 tweeter's 2,000 Hz high-pass for a 2-way front stage, and the 430 midrange can be added to make a 3-way set.
Dynaudio Esotar² 650: what it is
The Dynaudio Esotar² 650 is the 6.5-inch mid/woofer from Dynaudio's flagship Esotar² reference car audio series, with an MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cone, a 75 mm aluminium voice coil on a Kapton former and a rigid die-cast aluminium frame.
Esotar² is Dynaudio's flagship car audio range: the 110 tweeter, the 430 midrange, the 650 mid/woofer and the 1200 subwoofer, designed for active (DSP) systems. The cone drivers use MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cones in die-cast aluminium frames, and the tweeter sits in a CNC-machined metal housing.

Key features
MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cone: stiff, light and internally damped
Large 75 mm aluminium voice coil on a Kapton former for high power handling
Die-cast aluminium frame with aerodynamically shaped ribs to reduce resonance
200 W long-term power (IEC) and 1,000 W transient (10 ms)

Fitment: will it fit your car?
Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. The Esotar² 650 needs 67 mm of mounting depth and a ø136 mm cut-out. Spacers or adapter rings are often needed in many cars, and a solid, sealed baffle with door damping makes more difference to midbass than the speaker change alone.
Crossover, filtering and placement
Dynaudio recommends an active band-pass of 100 to 2,000 Hz, within a recommended range of 50 to 4,000 Hz.
Mount it in a solid, sealed baffle (door or kick panel) and pair it with a matching tweeter; a DSP makes the integration much easier.
Amplification
Dynaudio recommends an active band-pass of 100 to 2,000 Hz, so each mid/woofer needs its own amplifier channel behind a DSP. A front 3-way Esotar² set needs six channels, which AudioControl's D-6.1200 provides with its built-in DSP.
