Dynaudio Esotec System 362 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons
Quick summary: the buying decision
The Esotec System 362 is an 8-inch 3-way component speaker system, rated at 200 W and 4 ohm. Separate tweeters can be mounted higher, on the dash or A-pillars, than a coaxial allows, which lifts the stereo image towards ear level; the trade-off is a more involved installation with crossovers to mount.
Dynaudio Esotec System 362: what it is
The Dynaudio Esotec System 362 is a 3-way component speaker set built from Dynaudio's Esotec drivers: an 8-inch MSP-cone MW 172 woofer, a 3-inch MD 142 soft-dome midrange and a 1.1-inch MD 102 soft-dome tweeter, supplied with X 362 crossovers, mounting hardware and grilles.
Esotec is Dynaudio's premium passive component range, built from the MD 102 soft-dome tweeter, the MD 142 soft-dome midrange and the MW 162 (7-inch) or MW 172 (8-inch) MSP-cone woofers, with X 362 3-way passive crossovers that have 3-position tweeter and midrange level controls.

Key features
MD 102 tweeter: 28 mm (1.1-inch) coated fabric soft dome with a sealed, damped rear chamber and ferrofluid cooling
MD 142 midrange: 75 mm (3-inch) soft dome with a vented pole piece and integrated grille
MW 172 woofer: MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cone, 75 mm aluminium voice coil with vented pole piece and dual ferrite magnets
X 362 3-way passive crossovers at 900 Hz and 3.5 kHz, with 3-position tweeter and midrange level controls
92 dB sensitivity, 200 W continuous power, 4 ohm

Fitment: will it fit your car?
Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. The Esotec System 362 woofer has an outer size of ø200 x 88 mm (diameter x depth), so allow for that depth plus a solid mounting baffle. Spacers or adapter rings are often needed in many cars, and a solid, sealed baffle with door damping makes more difference to midbass than the speaker change alone.
Crossover, filtering and placement
The X 362 crossovers split at 900 Hz and 3.5 kHz, with 1st-order slopes for the woofer and midrange, a 2nd-order slope for the tweeter, and 3-position tweeter and midrange level controls.
Mount the tweeters on the dash or A-pillars and aim them across the car towards the opposite seat as a starting point, then adjust by listening. Keep the woofer in a sealed, damped door.
Amplification
Rated at 200 W continuous into 4 ohm, the set suits a quality amplifier channel per side; AudioControl's EPICBIGFOUR (4 x 200 W at 4 ohm) is a direct match on power, and the D-4.800 adds DSP for time alignment and equalisation.

Real-world reviews and limitations
We have not yet published a VA3 installation report for the Esotec System 362. The figures in this review are Dynaudio's published specifications, not our own measurements, and real-world results depend on the baffle, door treatment, tweeter position and the tune.
