Hertz ML 2500.3 Review: The Mille Legend 10-Inch Sub for Compact Sealed Boxes
Updated: Oct 6
The Hertz ML 2500.3 is a 10-inch (250 mm) subwoofer from Hertz's Mille Legend line, with a single 4 Ω voice coil of 100 mm diameter, a neodymium motor and a rating of 700 W continuous (1,400 W peak). Hertz designed it for small sealed boxes of 17–25 litres, and it won an EISA Award for 2016-2017, which Hertz promotes. At an Indian MRP of ₹99,990 it is the most expensive Hertz subwoofer we list, above the 8-inch ML 2000.3 and the Mille Pro range. It suits sound-quality builds where boot space matters. See today's price on our ML 2500.3 product page.

Key takeaways
A 100 mm coil, a neodymium magnet and an aluminium shorting ring: engineering aimed at low distortion at high power, not just loudness.
Hertz recommends a sealed box of 17–25 litres and lists no ported alignment; a German magazine test advises the top of that range.
A single 4 Ω coil rated at 700 W continuous needs a proper mono amplifier; the magazine suggests 300–800 W.
No owner reviews where we checked; a magazine test and an EISA citation are favourable, and Hertz promotes both.

Built for control rather than raw output
A 100 mm voice coil is a big motor for a 10-inch cone. Hertz winds it from copper-clad aluminium wire with an in/out method so the layers cool evenly, rates it for 1,400 W of musical power, and fits an aluminium shorting ring on the pole to cut distortion. The magnet is neodymium, the cone is paper loaded with mineral powders, which Hertz says adds rigidity and damping, and the basket has six alloy spokes. With 17 mm of linear travel, the cone moves a lot of air for its size: Hertz's aim is clean, uncompressed bass from a small box.
Box size and boot space
Hertz is specific about the enclosure: sealed, 17 to 25 litres, with no ported figure on its tech sheet. A Qts of 0.63 and a Vas of 23.5 litres are typical of a sealed-box driver, and a sealed alignment trades a little efficiency for tight, well-damped bass. The German magazine advised building at the upper end of Hertz's range; its own test box was 32.5 litres.
Even at 25 litres, a sealed box leaves most of a sedan or hatchback boot usable. Allow for the 137 mm mounting depth, and remember that the driver and bracing take up internal volume.
Amplifier pairing and wiring
With a single 4 Ω coil, one ML 2500.3 on a mono amplifier is a 4 Ω load, and two wired in parallel are 2 Ω. Hertz rates it at 700 W continuous, and the German magazine recommended 300–800 W. JL Audio's JD1000/1, rated at 600 W into 4 Ω at 14.4 V, sits inside that window.
Bass on this scale draws hard on the battery, especially in traffic with the AC on at idle, so use proper-gauge power cable fused near the battery. Our guide to the need for an amplifier in car sound systems covers the basics.
What owners and reviewers say about the Hertz ML 2500.3
When we checked in October 2026, Sonic Electronix showed zero customer reviews for this sub and Crutchfield showed none. What exists is professional assessment that Hertz publicises, so treat it as a favourable selection.
A German car hi-fi magazine test from issue 5/2016, hosted on Hertz's site, graded it 1.2 overall on the German school scale, where 1 is best: 1+ for sound and build, 2.2 for lab results, and very good for value. The reviewer praised clean, deep bass without muddiness, excellent dynamics and surprising output for a 25 cm cone. The lab's parameters were close to Hertz's (34.4 Hz resonance, 23.3 litres Vas, Qts 0.58), but it measured 82 dB at 1 W and 1 m against Hertz's 88 dB. Labs measure sensitivity in different ways; either way, do not skimp on amplifier power.
The sub also won an EISA Award for 2016-2017. Hertz's news page reproduces the jury citation, which credits the shorting rings, cooling, neodymium magnet and oversized coil with an unusual mix of linearity, power handling and dynamics from a compact box; that is manufacturer-published material. If you own one, we would like to hear how it performs in your car.
Hertz ML 2500.3 vs ML 2000.3 and Mille Pro MP 250
The Hertz ML 2000.3 (₹69,990 MRP) is the 8-inch Mille Legend. It shares the 700 W continuous rating and the 100 mm coil diameter, though the German magazine says the two share almost no other parts. On paper the 10-inch reaches lower (27 Hz against 30 Hz), is 2 dB more sensitive (88 against 86 dB) and has more linear travel (17 mm Xmax against 13 mm). The 8-inch wins on size: a 10–17 litre box and 117 mm mounting depth.
The Mille Pro MP 250 (₹39,990 MRP) is a lower-priced Mille Pro alternative at the same size. It uses a ferrite magnet and a 65 mm four-layer coil, is rated at 600 W continuous, and comes in dual 4 Ω or dual 2 Ω versions for more wiring options. Its quoted excursion (17 mm Xmax, 27 mm Xmech) matches the Legend's, so the extra ₹60,000 buys the neodymium motor, the bigger coil and the higher rating, not more cone travel.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the ML 2500.3 if you are building a sound-quality system around a compact sealed box, you have or plan a mono amplifier in the 300–800 W class at 4 Ω, and you want bass that starts and stops with the music.
Look elsewhere if you want the most output per rupee, your box must be smaller than 17 litres (the ML 2000.3 suits that better), or you want a ready-made enclosure. If budget matters more than refinement, Hertz's DS 25.3 is a 10-inch Dieci sub at about a tenth of the price.
Installation notes for Indian cars
A sealed box only works if it is airtight. Build it from thick MDF, glue and seal every joint, brace the larger panels and seal the terminal cup. Bolt the box down firmly: speed breakers and broken roads will shift an unsecured box around the boot.
Mount the amplifier where air can circulate, because a closed boot gets very hot in an Indian summer. Strong bass exposes rattles from the boot lid and number plate; our guide to applying sound damping in a car explains how to treat them. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.
Price and where to buy
The Hertz ML 2500.3 carries an MRP of ₹99,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the ML 2500.3 product page. It is sold as a bare driver: the MLG 2500.3 grille and the enclosure are extra. Every unit we sell is a genuine Hertz product.

The bottom line
This is a specialist's subwoofer: a big neodymium motor and a 100 mm coil in a 10-inch driver designed for a compact sealed box. A German magazine test and an EISA citation are favourable, but Hertz publishes both and we found no owner reviews. It needs a serious amplifier, a well-built box and a generous budget. Built properly, it gives deep, controlled bass without taking over the boot.
Hertz ML 2500.3 FAQ
What size box does the Hertz ML 2500.3 need?
Hertz recommends a sealed enclosure of 17 to 25 litres, and its tech sheet lists no ported alignment. A German magazine test advised staying at the upper end of that range for the best results.
How much amplifier power does the ML 2500.3 need?
Hertz rates it at 700 W continuous into a single 4 Ω coil, and the magazine that tested it recommended 300 to 800 W. A mono amplifier rated at around 600 W into 4 Ω is a sensible match.
Can I run two ML 2500.3 subwoofers on one amplifier?
Yes. Each sub has a single 4 Ω coil, so two wired in parallel present 2 Ω to a mono amplifier, or 8 Ω in series. Check that the amplifier is rated for the load you choose, and give each sub its own 17–25 litres of sealed volume.
