Updated: Oct 6

The JL Audio 6W3v3-4 is a 6.5-inch (165 mm) subwoofer driver from JL's W3v3 series, with a single 4 Ω voice coil and 150 W RMS of power handling, designed to work in a sealed box of just 4.2 litres. Its Indian MRP is ₹35,990, the lowest of the three W3v3 drivers in JL's 2026 catalogue. It is meant for cars and systems where a 10- or 12-inch box simply won't fit, and for listeners who want bass that blends with the speakers rather than rattles the mirrors. See it on our 6W3v3-4 product page.

JL Audio 6W3v3-4 6.5-inch compact subwoofer driver

Key points

  • A sealed box of 0.15 cu ft (4.2 L) or a ported box of 0.25 cu ft (7.1 L), with 108 mm of mounting depth.

  • 150 W RMS into 4 Ω, with JL recommending 50–150 W, so a modest amplifier channel will do.

  • Sensitivity of 80.49 dB and 8.89 mm of linear excursion mean it fills in the low end rather than delivering big, loud bass.

  • We found only two owner reviews, both positive about its sound and one praising how well it blends; we found no independent tests.

What a 6.5-inch subwoofer can and can't do

Physics sets the limits. A 165 mm driver with 8.89 mm of one-way excursion moves far less air than a 10- or 12-inch driver, and at 80.49 dB this is the least sensitive of the three W3v3 drivers in the 2026 catalogue. It will fill in the low end beneath a good set of door speakers, but it won't produce the chest-thumping output of a big sub.

That isn't a criticism. In hatchbacks and compact sedans, cabin gain lifts low frequencies more as the space gets smaller, which suits a small driver. In sound-quality systems, a compact sub that blends with the front speakers can sound more natural than a big one loafing along. Our listing describes the W3v3 range as built for small enclosures at medium power levels, and that is the right way to think of this one.

Boxes: 4.2 litres sealed or 7.1 litres ported

JL's sealed recommendation is 0.15 cu ft, or 4.2 litres, about the size of a small shoebox. The ported alternative is 0.25 cu ft (7.1 L), tuned to 38 Hz with a slot port JL specifies as 4.25 x 0.5 x 12.25 inches (about 108 x 13 x 311 mm). The driver displaces 0.57 litres, a real share of a box this small, so the builder must allow for it.

Sealed is the easier choice for most installs. It is smaller, simpler to fit into odd spaces and keeps the cone controlled at every frequency. Ported adds output around 38 Hz from a still-tiny box, but the design gets more involved with a 311 mm slot, and the cone needs a subsonic filter below tuning.

Amplifier matches

With a single 4 Ω coil and a recommended 50–150 W, the 6W3v3-4 doesn't need a big monoblock. One sub sits comfortably on the subwoofer channel of a five-channel amplifier such as the JL Audio JD700/5, rated at 180 W into 4 Ω, as long as the gain is set to keep it within 150 W. Two subs wired in parallel present 2 Ω, where the same channel is rated at 300 W, or 150 W each, an exact match.

A single channel of a four-channel amplifier such as the JD400/4 or XDM400/4 delivers 75 W into 4 Ω at 14.4 V, inside JL's range, provided that channel can be low-pass filtered. Don't bridge a pair into one 6W3v3-4 on those amps: JL rates bridged output at 200 W into 4 Ω, more than the driver is built for.

What owners say about the JL Audio 6W3v3-4

Owner feedback is sparse: when we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo listed just two dated reviews, from 2010 and 2024. One owner, in a Honda Element, reported solid bass from a compact sub on a modest amplifier. The other, in a Toyota Tundra, rated its sound quality highly against larger subs and said it blends well with the vehicle's speakers; neither recorded a complaint.

Two reviews are too few for firm conclusions, and we found no independent measurements of this driver. Both are positive about its sound, and one singles out how well it blends, which is the point of a small sub. If you've installed one, we'd like to hear how it works in your car.

6W3v3-4 vs 8W3v3-4, 10TW1-4 and a powered box

For ₹4,000 more, the JL Audio 8W3v3-4 (₹39,990) handles 250 W, is 2.75 dB more sensitive at 83.24 dB and needs an 8.5-litre sealed box with 118 mm of depth. If that box fits, it is the more capable driver.

The thin-line 10TW1-4 (₹45,990) needs a similar 111 mm of mounting depth but a larger 9.91-litre sealed box, and handles 300 W at 82.2 dB. If you'd rather skip the separate amplifier, the ACS110LG-TW1 PowerWedge+ (₹99,990) is a sealed enclosure with its own amplifier, rated at 400 W into 0.25 Ω and 127 mm deep per our listing, though it costs far more.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the 6W3v3-4 if space is your hard limit, you want bass that blends with a good front stage, and you'd rather run it from a modest amplifier channel than a big monoblock. It also suits owners who want to keep almost all of a small boot.

Look elsewhere if you want loud, deep bass. A 6.5-inch driver at 80.49 dB can't deliver that, and if an 8.5-litre box fits, the 8W3v3-4 gives more output for little extra money.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A 4.2-litre sealed box opens up mounting spots a normal sub can't use: a corner of a hatchback boot, a side cavity in an SUV's cargo area, or under a seat where the floor allows. Measure before committing, because the box still needs 108 mm of driver depth plus its own walls, and seat rails and wiring looms compete for under-seat space.

Small boxes are easy to make rigid, so use thick panels and seal every joint. The mineral-filled polypropylene cone copes well with a boot that bakes in summer, but the amplifier still needs ventilation. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can advise on a compact box for your car and integrate the sub with your existing speakers.

6W3v3-4 price and where to buy

The JL Audio 6W3v3-4 has an MRP of ₹35,990 in the 2026 Indian price list. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on our 6W3v3-4 product page. It is a genuine JL Audio product, built in the USA with imported and domestic components.

The bottom line

The 6W3v3-4 is a specialist: a well-made JL sub that gives real low-end support from a 4.2-litre box and a modest amplifier. It won't rival a 10 or 12 for output, and owner feedback is sparse, but for a small car, a hidden install or a sound-quality system short on space, it fills a gap nothing else in JL's 2026 Indian driver range covers.

JL Audio 6W3v3-4 FAQ

Is the JL Audio 6W3v3-4 loud enough on its own?

Not for loud, deep bass. With 80.49 dB sensitivity and 8.89 mm of excursion it is built to fill in the low end beneath good door speakers, particularly in small cabins. For more output, use two of them or step up to the 8W3v3-4.

What box does the 6W3v3-4 need?

JL recommends 0.15 cu ft (4.2 litres) sealed or 0.25 cu ft (7.1 litres) ported and tuned to 38 Hz. The driver needs 108 mm of mounting depth and a 140 mm cutout.

What amplifier should I use with the 6W3v3-4?

Anything that delivers 50 to 150 W RMS into 4 Ω. A five-channel amplifier's sub output, such as the JD700/5's (180 W, so set the gain to stay within 150 W), or one low-passed channel of a four-channel amp works well, and two subs in parallel suit the JD700/5's 300 W rating at 2 Ω.

Can the 6W3v3-4 be mounted under a seat?

Possibly, if the car has the room. A sealed 4.2-litre box plus 108 mm of driver depth must clear the seat rails and wiring, so measure carefully or ask us to check your car before ordering.
