JL Audio JD700/5 Review: A Whole Car Audio System From One Amplifier

Updated: Oct 6

The JL Audio JD700/5 is a five-channel Class D system amplifier that runs a complete car audio system from one chassis: four main channels rated at 75 W x 4 into 4 Ω (100 W x 4 into 2 Ω) plus a subwoofer channel of 180 W into 4 Ω or 300 W into 2 Ω. It measures 301 x 190 x 53 mm and carries an MRP of ₹69,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue, placing it between the JD400/4 four-channel and JL's more powerful RD900/5. It suits drivers who want front speakers, rear speakers and a subwoofer properly powered, often from a factory head unit, with only one amplifier to mount and wire. Today's price is on our JD700/5 five-channel amplifier page.

JL Audio JD700/5 five-channel Class D system amplifier

At a glance

  • One chassis, one power cable and one 60 A fuse replace a four-channel amp and a monoblock.

  • Its turn-on can sense the DC offset or the music from factory speaker outputs, which simplifies factory head unit installs.

  • The subwoofer channel tops out at 300 W into 2 Ω, enough for one sensibly chosen sub but not for heavy bass.

  • It appears to be a recent model, and we found no owner reviews yet.

Figures come from JL's JD700/5 installation instructions (dated June 2025), our store listing and the 2026 Indian catalogue, which agree on the ratings. JL's 12.5 V figures and warranty term for this model aren't in the material we have, so ask us about both.

What the 700 W headline means

JL's 700 W headline adds up the 2 Ω ratings: 4 x 100 W plus 300 W. With the usual 4 Ω door speakers and a 4 Ω subwoofer, the total is 480 W. That is still plenty for a well-designed daily system, but it explains why the JD700/5 suits a balanced setup rather than a bass-first build.

The main channels match JL's own JD400/4 exactly, so the same speakers suit them: a 60 W RMS set such as the C2-650 in the front doors and a coaxial pair at the back. On the subwoofer channel, a dual 4 Ω driver wired in parallel to 2 Ω receives the full 300 W. JL's shallow 10TW3-D4, rated at 400 W RMS with a recommended amplifier range of 200–400 W and a mounting depth of just 83 mm, is a natural partner for a compact enclosure.

Built for factory integration

Many Indian cars now have factory touchscreens with no RCA outputs and no remote turn-on wire. The JD700/5 handles both. Its differential-balanced inputs accept speaker-level signals, and its turn-on can detect either the small DC offset present on factory speaker outputs or the music itself, so in many installs the amplifier switches on with the head unit without an extra wire.

The filters are more flexible than a basic system amp's. Channels 1–2 high-pass anywhere from 50 Hz to 5 kHz, channels 3–4 can be high-passed for rear speakers or band-passed for dedicated midbass drivers, and the subwoofer channel low-passes from 50 to 500 Hz. JL rates its C7-100ct tweeter for use from 5 kHz with 12 dB per octave filters, which sits at the top of channels 1–2's range, so the amp could even drive those tweeters actively in a more ambitious build. An optional RBC-1 remote (₹6,990 MRP) adds bass level control from the driver's seat.

What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio JD700/5

Independent owner reviews of this model are scarce: when we checked in October 2026, we found none we could verify. Its OnlineCarStereo listing had no reviews at all. JL's installation document is dated June 2025, which suggests a recent launch, although we found no launch date.

What exists is the manufacturer's description, which is promotional: JL's Garmin store listing calls it a five-channel 700 W system amplifier combining four full-range channels and a mono subwoofer channel with 12 dB per octave filtering. Our JD400/4 review covers owner feedback on the four-channel JD whose ratings the main channels share, but that says nothing definitive about the JD700/5 itself. If you own one, we'd like to hear how it has done.

JD700/5 vs JD400/4 plus JD500/1, and the RD900/5

The obvious alternative is two JD amps: a JD400/4 for the speakers and a JD500/1 for the subwoofer. At MRP the pair costs ₹75,980, ₹5,990 more, and needs two mounting spots, two power runs and two fuses (40 A and 50 A). In return the subwoofer gets 250 W into 4 Ω or 500 W into 2 Ω instead of 180 W or 300 W. If bass matters, the pair is worth the extra space; if it doesn't, the JD700/5 is tidier and cheaper.

Within the same chassis concept, JL's RD900/5 costs ₹10,000 more at ₹79,990 and rates its subwoofer channel at 500 W into 2 Ω, though its main channels are slightly lower at 70 W x 4 into 4 Ω. For a stronger subwoofer from one box, that is the step up.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the JD700/5 if you want a complete, balanced system from one amplifier, you're keeping a factory head unit, and space for two amps is tight, as it often is in hatchbacks and compact SUVs.

Look elsewhere if you want heavy, high-output bass, where a JD400/4 and JD500/1 pair or the RD900/5 serves better, or if you'd rather wait for an owner track record before buying a new model.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 301 mm long, the JD700/5 is a harder fit under a seat than smaller amps, so most installs use a boot side panel, a false floor or the back of the rear seat. One amp instead of two saves real space, and a shallow subwoofer in a compact sealed box can keep most of the boot usable. Leave air around the chassis; a boot in an Indian summer is a hot place for any amplifier.

Fit the 60 A fuse close to the battery, size the power cable for the run, and keep the earth short and on bare metal. With speaker-level inputs, tap the factory wiring cleanly with proper connectors rather than twisted joints, which loosen on rough roads. JL Audio JD700/5 five-channel system amplifier - another view

The bottom line

The JD700/5 does what a system amplifier should: one box, one fuse, sensible power on every channel and turn-on that copes with factory head units. Its limits are a modest subwoofer channel and no owner track record yet. For a balanced daily system where space and wiring simplicity matter, it is the tidiest JL option.

JL Audio JD700/5 FAQ

Can the JL Audio JD700/5 run a whole system on its own?

Yes. Its four main channels drive front and rear speakers at 75 W each into 4 Ω, and the fifth channel powers a subwoofer with 180 W into 4 Ω or 300 W into 2 Ω. One power cable and one 60 A fuse cover the lot.

Does the JD700/5 work with a factory head unit?

Yes. Its differential-balanced inputs accept speaker-level signals, and it can switch on by sensing the DC offset or the audio signal from factory speaker outputs. In many installs that means no separate remote turn-on wire is needed.

Is the JL Audio JD700/5 better value than a JD400/4 and JD500/1?

It costs ₹69,990 against ₹75,980 for the pair at MRP, and needs one mounting spot and one power run instead of two. The pair gives the subwoofer far more power, up to 500 W into 2 Ω against 300 W, so choose by how much bass you want.
