JL Audio C7-100ct Review: JL's Flagship Tweeter for Active Systems
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio C7-100ct is the tweeter from JL's flagship C7 range: a single 1-inch (25 mm) dome of corundum ceramic-coated aluminium alloy, rated at 100 W continuous into 4 Ω and able to play from 3 kHz to 30 kHz with steep DSP filters. Its Indian MRP is ₹99,990 each, so a left-and-right pair costs ₹1,99,980 before any amplifier or processor. JL built it for active systems, where a DSP divides the frequencies, so it suits enthusiasts planning a tuned front stage rather than buyers wanting a quick speaker swap. Today's price is on our C7-100ct tweeter product page.

At a glance
It's one tweeter, not a set: a stereo pair needs two, each on its own amplifier channel, plus a DSP, because no crossover network comes in the box.
How low it can be crossed depends on the filter slope, from 3 kHz with 48 dB per octave filters to 5 kHz with 12 dB filters.
Owners on two US retail sites describe smooth, clear treble, and one reports no listening fatigue; the only reservation recorded is price.
Flush and surface housings are both included, so it can go in a pillar, sail panel or dash.

A tweeter that needs a system around it
The C7-100ct isn't something you wire to a head unit and forget. The C7 drivers are designed to run actively: each one gets its own amplifier channel, and a digital signal processor decides which frequencies reach it. The 15 µF capacitor in the box is for protection. Wired in series, it keeps bass and switch-on thumps away from the dome while a system is set up, but it's a safety net, not a substitute for a proper crossover.
A working pair needs three things around it: a DSP output for each tweeter (an active two-way front takes four channels, a three-way six), clean amplifier power in JL's recommended 50–150 W range, far more than a head unit's built-in amplifier supplies, and a mounting position on each side.
JL's VX600/6i combines six amplifier channels with an integrated DSP, enough for a complete active three-way front. To keep processing separate, the TwK88 processor offers crossover slopes up to 48 dB per octave and can feed an amplifier such as the HD600/4. If active systems are new to you, our explainer on why car audio needs DSP covers the basics.
The dome, and where to cross it over
JL's C2, C3 and C6 tweeters all use silk domes. The C7-100ct uses an aluminium alloy diaphragm with a corundum ceramic coating, suspended on a treated silk S-roll surround. Metal domes are light and stiff, and the ceramic layer adds hardness; JL promises highly detailed treble with strong off-axis response. That's a manufacturer claim, though the owner comments below point the same way.
The bandwidth figures are practical, not just paperwork. A steeper filter cuts output below the crossover point more sharply, which is why JL allows a 3 kHz crossover only with 48 dB per octave slopes. Paired with the C7-650cw woofer, whose design bandwidth tops out at 5 kHz, a two-way crossover between 3 and 5 kHz keeps both drivers inside JL's limits, provided the slope suits the crossover point. In a three-way, the C7-350cm midrange reaches 10 kHz, so the tweeter can be crossed higher and works with less strain.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio C7-100ct
Feedback on a tweeter at this price is limited, but it's consistent. This is what we found when we checked in October 2026.
OnlineCarStereo carries three text reviews dated 2023 and 2024, without star ratings. Owners describe smooth, clear and bright treble, with one saying it causes no listening fatigue. They also say it plays loud while staying clean and praise very clean highs and a premium-feeling build, and one rates it above the alternatives they had tried. The single reservation is the price, raised by an owner who still felt it was worth paying.
Every visible rating on the Sonic Electronix listing is five stars, though no total review count is shown. Buyers describe highs that are crisp yet mellow; one found them louder than the Focal tweeters they replaced, one compared them favourably with Hertz MP25 Pro tweeters, and one called them the heart of their system.
An April 2018 listening report on Adam Rayner Talks Audio covers a demonstration Audi with an active C7 three-way and JL W6 subwoofers, so it describes the whole system rather than this tweeter alone. The UK journalist praises speed, dynamics, very high detail and a soundstage that seemed detached from the speakers, but warns about per-driver cost and the need for serious amplification, DSP and installation skill. Crutchfield has a customer-review page for the C7-100ct that we couldn't read, so we draw nothing from it.
C7-100ct vs the C6 silk-dome tweeter and passive sets
JL's next tweeter down is the 1-inch silk dome in the C6-650 sets, which our C6-650 Active listing rates at 75 W, 90 dB (1 W / 1 m) and 3–21 kHz. The C7-100ct handles more power and extends further, but it is 3.5 dB less sensitive, so it needs a little over twice the amplifier power for the same level. Price is the bigger gap: the whole C6-650 Active set, woofers and tweeters, has an MRP of ₹1,14,990, only ₹15,000 more than one C7-100ct.
If an active build isn't on the cards, buy a passive set instead. The C3-650 (₹79,990 MRP) pairs a 1-inch silk dome with its own crossovers, and our C2-650 review covers JL's value-focused set at ₹32,990. Neither needs a DSP, though both benefit from one.
Who should buy it, and who should look elsewhere
Buy the C7-100ct if you're building an active front stage with a DSP and spare amplifier channels, want JL's flagship metal-dome tweeter, and have an installer who can measure and tune the result. It's the natural top end of a full C7 three-way with the C7-350cm and C7-650cw.
Look elsewhere if you're keeping a factory head unit with no processor, want a set that wires up through passive crossovers, or can't spend ₹1,99,980 on two tweeters and still cover amplification, a DSP and door treatment. A well-installed passive set usually beats an expensive active system that hasn't been tuned properly.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Flush mounting needs a 48 mm hole and, per JL's manual, at least 44 mm of clear space behind the panel for the spring clip, which rules out some thin dash tops and slim pillar trims; the surface housing covers those cases. A high position on the A-pillar or sail panel lifts the stereo image towards dashboard height, and the DSP's time alignment corrects for one tweeter being closer to the driver than the other.
Those spots sit in direct sun behind the windscreen, and a parked cabin in a Delhi summer gets hot enough to soften cheap adhesives, so use heat-rated pods and glue. Keep wiring clear of any curtain airbag path along the pillar trim. With the AC running at idle, voltage drops and amplifier output with it: JL rates the VX600/6i at 75 W per channel into 4 Ω at 14.4 V and 60 W at 12.5 V, both inside the tweeter's recommended range.
Tuning decides whether an active system succeeds, which is why installers use measurement tools such as the JL MAX measurement system. VA3 Car Studio installs and tunes active systems in Ghaziabad, and we can check the mounting options in your car before you order.
Price and where to buy
The 2026 Indian catalogue lists the JL Audio C7-100ct at an MRP of ₹99,990 per tweeter. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see the current offer on our C7-100ct product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine JL Audio product, marketed and distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
The bottom line
The C7-100ct is a specialist's tweeter. Its ceramic-coated aluminium dome, 100 W rating and 3 kHz lower limit give an active system plenty to work with, and its owners are clearly pleased. But it only makes sense with a DSP, dedicated amplifier channels and a careful installer. If that system is already planned, it's the obvious top end; if not, start with a complete passive set.
JL Audio C7-100ct FAQ
Is the JL Audio C7-100ct sold as a pair?
No. It's sold individually, so the ₹99,990 MRP covers one tweeter and a stereo system needs two. Each comes with flush and surface housings, mounting hardware and a 15 µF protection capacitor.
Can I use the C7-100ct without a DSP?
Not in the way JL intends. There's no crossover network in the box, and the protection capacitor isn't a substitute for one, so each tweeter needs a DSP output and its own amplifier channel.
How much amplifier power does the C7-100ct need?
JL recommends 50–150 W RMS per tweeter against a 100 W continuous rating. Amplifiers delivering 75–150 W per channel into 4 Ω, such as JL's VX600/6i or HD600/4, fall inside that range.
