Updated: Oct 6

The JL Audio CF-275mt is a pair of 2.75-inch (70 mm) mid-tweeters built to drop into the small speaker openings many cars have in the dashboard, rated at 30 W RMS into 4 Ω with a listed response of 450 Hz to 20 kHz. Its Indian MRP is ₹21,990, which makes it the smaller and more affordable of the two Custom-Fit (CF) models in JL's 2026 Indian catalogue. It suits owners who want a better dash speaker in a factory opening of the right size, without changing the cabin's look. You can check the current offer on our CF-275mt custom-fit mid-tweeter page.

JL Audio CF-275mt 2.75-inch custom-fit mid-tweeter for factory dashboard speaker locations

At a glance

  • A direct replacement for factory dash speakers, with breakaway mounting tabs and, per our listing, a 63 mm cutout and 35 mm mounting depth.

  • Built for dashboard heat: a glass-filled, high-temperature polymer frame and a perforated metal grille that JL says protects against UV.

  • The 82 dB sensitivity is low, so plan how it will be powered and level-matched to the doors.

  • In-line second-order high-pass filters come in the box; with steeper DSP filters, JL rates it down to 400 Hz.

Size, power, impedance, design bandwidth and construction come from JL's 2026 Indian catalogue; sensitivity, response, dimensions, cone and box contents come from our store listing. We could not locate an official JL specification page for this model, so measure your car's opening before ordering. The catalogue calls it a mid-tweeter in one place and a tweeter in another; the 450 Hz lower limit makes mid-tweeter the accurate term.

What a mid-tweeter does in the dashboard

A dome tweeter handles only the top few octaves, typically from around 3 kHz upward. A mid-tweeter starts much lower, at roughly 450 to 500 Hz here, so it carries much of the vocal range as well as the treble. That is why carmakers fit this size in the dash: one small driver covers everything above the door woofers without a separate tweeter.

Sound from the dash also arrives from higher up and further forward than sound from the doors, lifting voices away from your knees. A tired factory driver there drags the whole front stage down.

The supplied in-line filters are second-order (12 dB per octave), and for that slope the catalogue rates the driver from 500 Hz. With a DSP's 24 dB/octave slopes it is rated from 400 Hz, which eases the blend with a 6.5-inch door speaker.

Built for the hottest spot in the car

A north Indian summer bakes a parked car's dash for hours under the windscreen, and the sunlight steadily breaks down plastics and cone materials. In older cars dash speakers can fail early, and crackling or a dead channel is a common sign.

The CF-275mt's construction targets exactly that. The frame is a glass-filled, high-temperature polymer, the terminals are moulded into it, and the low-profile metal grille sits behind the factory trim and, by JL's account, protects against UV in dash locations. A neodymium magnet keeps the motor light and compact, which helps it fit 35 mm of depth. JL also lists a DMA-optimised motor and progressive-roll flat spiders, meaning the motor and suspension are designed to keep cone movement controlled and linear, which matters for a driver this small crossed this low.

Power, sensitivity and level-matching

Sensitivity is the figure to plan around. JL rates its 6.5-inch C2-650x coaxial at 91 dB, and a 9 dB gap means the CF-275mt needs roughly eight times the power to match it on paper. In many cars the dash speaker shares a head-unit channel with the door speaker through a simple filter, and a low-sensitivity driver on that shared feed may sound recessed next to the doors.

A dedicated amplifier channel, or better a DSP, solves this by setting the dash level on its own. A six-channel DSP amplifier such as the JL Audio VX600/6i can run the dash pair and the door woofers on separate channels; its 75 W per channel at 4 Ω is well above the 30 W rating, so keep the gain conservative. If you keep the factory touchscreen and add a conventional amplifier, a line output converter such as the JL Audio LoC22 turns its speaker-level output into a line-level signal for the amplifier, and our guide to setting up a DSP in your car covers the tuning.

What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio CF-275mt

Independent reviews of this exact model are scarce: when we checked in October 2026, we found none we could verify, and the retailer listings we looked at carried no customer reviews. The CF-350mt sibling has none either, so there is no closely related owner feedback to lean on.

What can be verified are JL's own claims, which should be read as promotional: a metal grille that fits behind factory trim and protects against UV in dash locations, a high-temperature frame, and a motor and suspension designed for linear movement. Our listing also describes a direct fit in many vehicles' factory dash locations, which you should check against your own car. If you have fitted a CF-275mt, especially in a car that lives outdoors, tell us how it has held up; we'd like to add verified owner experience here.

CF-275mt vs CF-350mt and the C6-275cm

The JL Audio CF-350mt is the same concept in a 3.5-inch (90 mm) size: 35 W RMS instead of 30 W, 86 dB sensitivity instead of 82 dB, and an 80 mm cutout with 40 mm depth, at ₹27,990 MRP. The factory opening usually decides between them, but where the dash takes the bigger driver, that 4 dB efficiency gain is worth having. The catalogue prints the same design bandwidth for both, so the larger cone isn't rated to reach lower.

The JL Audio C6-275cm shares the 2.75-inch size but is a different tool: a dedicated midrange sold singly at ₹79,990 MRP, rated at 50 W and specified only up to 4.8 kHz with 48 dB/octave filters. It needs a separate tweeter and its own filtering, typically from a DSP. The CF-275mt plays to 20 kHz on its own and ships with passive filters, which is what a factory-style dash upgrade needs.

For the doors, the 6.5-inch C1-650x and C2-650x coaxials are the natural JL partners at this budget; a DSP can trim any overlap between their tweeters and the dash drivers.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

It makes sense if your car has 2.75-inch dash openings and the speakers there sound dull, crackle or have failed in the heat. It also suits owners who want a completely stock-looking interior, and DSP builds that use the dash for the upper midrange.

Look elsewhere if your car has small dome tweeters in the A-pillars rather than dash openings; a component set's tweeter fits that job better. It is rated from 400 Hz upward, so it won't help bass. And if your dash takes a 3.5-inch driver, the CF-350mt is the more efficient choice on head-unit power.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Dash grilles are held by clips that turn brittle after years of sun, so lift the panel slowly with a trim tool. Compare the factory speaker with our listed 63 mm cutout, 72 mm frame diameter and 35 mm depth, then snap off whichever breakaway tabs don't line up with the factory mounting points.

The box includes crimp connectors and the in-line filters but no vehicle-specific harness, so plan on an adapter or a careful, insulated splice. Fix the filters with foam tape so they can't buzz on rough roads, and add a thin foam gasket around the frame. Dash-top speakers fire up into the windscreen, and the reflections can make treble sound bright; a little DSP equalisation usually settles it. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can handle the fitting, wiring and tuning for you.

Price and where to buy

The JL Audio CF-275mt carries an MRP of ₹21,990 for the pair in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, and the current price is on the CF-275mt store listing. Every pair we supply is a genuine JL Audio product.

The bottom line

The CF-275mt is a focused part: a factory-fit replacement for small dash speakers, designed for dashboard heat, with filters in the box. Its low sensitivity rewards a dedicated amplifier channel or DSP, and verified owner feedback is still missing. If your dash has the right openings and the stock drivers are tired, it is a tidy, invisible upgrade to the front stage.

JL Audio CF-275mt FAQ

Is the JL Audio CF-275mt a tweeter or a midrange?

It is a mid-tweeter, a small driver that covers roughly 450 Hz to 20 kHz. That lets one 2.75-inch speaker handle vocals and treble from a factory dash opening, where a dome tweeter alone would leave a gap above the door speakers.

Will the CF-275mt fit my car?

It fits where the factory dash opening takes a 2.75-inch speaker; our listing gives a 63 mm cutout, a 72 mm frame diameter and 35 mm of mounting depth. The breakaway tabs adapt it to different mounting points, but ask us to confirm your car before ordering.

Do I need an amplifier for the CF-275mt?

Not strictly, as it is rated at only 30 W RMS. Its 82 dB sensitivity is low, though, so on a factory head unit it can sound quiet next to the door speakers. A separate amplifier channel or a DSP lets you set its level properly.
