JL Audio CF-350mt Review: The 3.5-Inch Custom-Fit Dash Speaker Upgrade
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio CF-350mt is a 3.5-inch (90 mm) mid-tweeter pair from JL's Custom-Fit range, designed to drop into the speaker openings in the dashboard corners or centre of many cars. Our listing rates it at 35 W RMS into 4 Ω, with 86 dB sensitivity and a 450 Hz to 20 kHz response. At ₹27,990 MRP it is the larger and pricier of the two CF models in the 2026 Indian catalogue, and the one to choose when the factory opening is 3.5 inches. Today's offer is on our CF-350mt 3.5-inch mid-tweeter page.

Quick verdict
The more efficient CF model: 86 dB is 4 dB up on the 2.75-inch CF-275mt, so it needs less than half the power for the same volume.
It needs an 80 mm cutout, 88 mm of frame clearance and 40 mm of depth, according to our listing.
JL designs the frame and grille to cope with heat and sunlight, the main hazards for a dash speaker.
There are no owner reviews we could verify as of October 2026, so judge it on specs and fit.

Our store listing supplies the sensitivity, response, cone, dimensions and box contents; everything else comes from JL's 2026 Indian catalogue, because we couldn't find an official JL specification page for this model. If you compare listings online, be aware that at least one online retailer shows figures matching the smaller CF-275mt (30 W, 82 dB, 63 mm hole), which don't belong to this driver.
What the bigger cone buys you
Stepping up from 2.75 to 3.5 inches adds a useful amount of cone area, and the listed figures show where it goes. The rated bandwidth doesn't change: the catalogue prints 400 Hz to 20 kHz with 24 dB/octave filters, and 500 Hz to 20 kHz with 12 dB/octave filters, for both CF sizes. What rises is sensitivity, from 82 to 86 dB, and power handling, from 30 to 35 W.
Those 4 dB matter more than the number suggests. Closing a 4 dB gap takes roughly 2.5 times the amplifier power, so on a modest head unit the CF-350mt keeps pace with the door speakers more easily than its smaller sibling. Expect more output per watt and a little more headroom, not deeper notes.
Because it covers everything from the upper midrange to the top octave, this one driver carries much of the detail that makes voices intelligible. With the driver in the dash, vocals appear in front of you at roughly dashboard height rather than down by the door pockets.
Made for life on top of the dashboard
JL builds the CF range around the conditions a dash speaker actually faces. The frame is a glass-filled polymer specified for high temperatures, so it shouldn't creep or warp after summers in direct sun, and the terminals are insert-moulded into it, which should leave fewer joints to work loose on broken roads. The low-profile perforated metal grille sits behind the factory trim, and JL says it provides UV protection in dash locations.
Behind the fibre-reinforced pulp cone, JL lists a neodymium magnet, a DMA-optimised motor and progressive-roll flat spiders. These are claims about control rather than loudness: a light, strong magnet and a suspension designed for linear travel help a small cone stay composed when it is asked to work down towards 400 Hz.
Powering the CF-350mt
With a 35 W RMS rating, the CF-350mt doesn't need much. Its 86 dB sensitivity is workable on head-unit power, though still below a typical 6.5-inch door speaker; JL's C3-650, for example, is rated at 90 dB. In factory systems the dash and door speakers often share one channel, so replacing just the dash pair shifts the balance between them.
A DSP removes that compromise by giving the dash drivers their own crossover point, slope, level and delay, which is where a mid-tweeter in this position really pays off. Our article on why car audio systems need a DSP explains the reasoning. If you are keeping the factory touchscreen, JL's FiX 86 is an OEM-integration DSP made for that kind of build.
For amplification, a four-channel unit such as the JL Audio XDM400/4 delivers 75 W per channel at 4 Ω, so set its gain well below maximum to keep the CF-350mt inside its 35 W rating. Dash speakers that fire into the windscreen are easier to tune by measurement than by ear, and kits such as the JL Audio MAX measurement system are designed for exactly this.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio CF-350mt
We looked for owner and press reviews of the CF-350mt and, when we checked in October 2026, found none we could verify. The retailer listings we checked showed no customer reviews, and the smaller CF-275mt is in the same position, so there is no related-model feedback to point to either.
Everything we can say about its behaviour therefore comes from JL and should be read as promotional: UV protection from the grille in dash locations, a frame built for high temperatures, and a motor and suspension tuned for linear movement. Our listing also credits the slimline frame and breakaway tabs with fitting many vehicles' factory dash positions directly; treat that as a starting point and check your own car. If you have run a pair through an Indian summer or two, we would value hearing how they've done.
CF-350mt vs CF-275mt and C7-350cm
Against the JL Audio CF-275mt the trade is simple: ₹6,000 more at MRP (₹27,990 against ₹21,990) for 4 dB more sensitivity and 5 W more power handling, in return for an 80 mm cutout instead of 63 mm and 5 mm more depth. The factory opening normally makes the decision, and if yours is 3.5 inches there is little reason to adapt it down to the smaller model.
The JL Audio C7-350cm shares the nominal size but belongs in a different kind of system. It is a single dedicated midrange from JL's C7 line, rated at 100 W and specified from 300 Hz to 10 kHz with 48 dB/octave filters, so a tweeter and external filtering, usually a DSP, become part of the plan. It costs ₹1,24,990 MRP for one driver. The C7 suits a fully active three-way front stage; the CF-350mt suits a factory-location upgrade that handles the treble by itself.
Who it suits, and who should skip it
Choose the CF-350mt if your car has 3.5-inch dash speakers that sound veiled, buzz or have failed; you want the dashboard to look untouched; or you are planning a DSP system in which the dash drivers carry the vocal range.
Skip it if the dash openings are 2.75-inch, which is what the CF-275mt is for, or if your car has only small dome tweeters. If your main complaint is weak bass, a subwoofer such as the JL Audio 8W3v3-4 will do far more than any dash speaker. And if you want tweeters aimed from the A-pillars, a component set is the better route.
Fitting tips for Indian dashboards
Check what is under the dash grille before ordering. Our listing gives an 80 mm cutout, an 88 mm frame diameter and 40 mm of depth; factory brackets vary, which is why JL uses tabs you break away to match the mounting points. Check the space below the opening too, since air-conditioning ducts can run just beneath dash speaker pods.
Mount the in-line filters close to the speakers and secure them with foam tape or cable ties so they don't rattle over speed breakers. The kit includes crimp connectors but no car-specific harness, so use an adapter or a properly insulated crimp rather than twisted wires, which corrode in humid monsoon months. CF-350mt price and where to buy
The JL Audio CF-350mt has an MRP of ₹27,990 per pair in the 2026 Indian catalogue. We often sell below MRP; check our CF-350mt store listing for the current price. Every pair is a genuine JL Audio product.
Our verdict
If your car has 3.5-inch dash speakers, this is the CF model to choose: more efficient than the 2.75-inch version, slightly more power handling, and built with heat and sunlight in mind. We found no verifiable owner feedback yet, so this is a purchase based on JL's specifications and sensible design rather than a track record. Give it its own amplifier channel or a DSP to get the level and blend right.
JL Audio CF-350mt FAQ
What does the JL Audio CF-350mt replace?
It is designed to replace factory 3.5-inch speakers in the dashboard, often in the corners under the windscreen or in the centre of the dash. It covers roughly 450 Hz to 20 kHz, so one driver handles both vocals and treble from that position.
Is the CF-350mt louder than the CF-275mt?
On paper, yes. It is rated at 86 dB against 82 dB, so it produces about 4 dB more output from the same power, and it handles 35 W RMS rather than 30 W. Both carry the same rated bandwidth.
What size hole does the CF-350mt need?
Our listing gives an 80 mm (3.12-inch) cutout, an 88 mm frame diameter and 40 mm of mounting depth. Breakaway tabs help it match different factory brackets; send us your car's details and we'll check fitment.
