JL Audio XDM600/6 Review: Six Marine-Grade Channels for an Active Front Stage
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio XDM600/6 is a six-channel Class D amplifier that delivers 75 W x 6 into 4 Ω or 100 W x 6 into 2 Ω, and its channels bridge in pairs for 200 W x 3 into 4 Ω. It has the most channels in JL's marine-badged XDM range, and at ₹1,09,990 MRP it costs ₹20,000 more than the four-channel XDM400/4. Six channels make it a natural engine for an active three-way front stage run from a DSP, or for a complete speaker system with a bridged subwoofer channel, all from a chassis just 52 mm tall. Today's price is on our XDM600/6 six-channel amplifier page.

Key points
Six channels at 75 W each into 4 Ω or 100 W each into 2 Ω, or three bridged channels of 200 W into 4 Ω, all at 14.4 V.
Enough channels to drive a tweeter, midrange and woofer on each side, but the onboard filters stop at 500 Hz, so an active three-way needs an external DSP.
A 260 x 180 x 52 mm chassis and a 50 A fuse: slim, though 43 mm wider than the XDM400/4.
Two owner reviews praise low noise and easy tuning; their only complaint is the price.

Figures come from JL Audio's XDM600/6 owner's manual, with power rated at less than 1% THD+N, and the 2026 Indian catalogue, whose 75 W and 100 W ratings match. The manual copy we checked publishes no salt-fog or UV test results, so marine grade here means the catalogue badge and the corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminium housing rather than a published test.
What six channels can drive
Six channels is exactly what an active three-way front stage needs: a tweeter, a midrange and a woofer on each side, each with its own amplifier channel and its own crossover in a processor. JL's flagship drivers show how well the numbers line up. The C7-100ct tweeter and C7-350cm midrange are each rated at 100 W with 50–150 W recommended, and the C7-650cw woofer at 125 W with 50–175 W recommended. At 75 W per channel into 4 Ω, the XDM600/6 sits inside every one of those ranges.
There is a catch. The amplifier's own filters run only from 50 to 500 Hz at 12 dB/octave, which is fine for keeping deep bass out of a door woofer but cannot set the crossover between midrange and tweeter; the catalogue gives the C7-100ct's design bandwidth as starting at 3 kHz even with steep 48 dB/octave filters. An active three-way therefore needs an external processor, such as JL's TwK88 tuning DSP, with the amplifier's filters switched off.
Without a DSP, a simpler plan still makes good use of the channels: a front component set on one pair, rear speakers on another, and the third pair bridged into a 4 Ω subwoofer for 200 W. Each pair has its own filter, so the front and rear pairs can be high-passed while the bridged pair runs low-pass. The C3-650, rated at 75 W RMS, is matched exactly by the 4 Ω output.
Voltage, current and the 50 A fuse
At 12.5 V, closer to what an amplifier sees at idle with the AC and headlights running, JL rates the XDM600/6 at 60 W x 6 into 4 Ω and 180 W x 3 bridged. That 20% fall in power works out to less than 1 dB of level, small enough to ignore in a properly set system.
JL specifies a 50 A fuse, which is moderate for six channels, and the NexD switching design is rated at more than 80% efficiency, so the average draw with music stays well below the fuse rating. For a typical battery-to-boot run, 4 AWG cable gives comfortable headroom; our Tchernov 4 AWG power cable review looks at one option.
Inputs, controls and tuning
The inputs are differential-balanced RCA jacks accepting 200 mV to 4 V RMS, and JL lists no dedicated speaker-level inputs. In a car with a factory touchscreen, the signal will normally come from a DSP or a line output converter. A Car/Boat input filter switch and three turn-on modes complete the controls.
An active system lives or dies by its tuning. Crossover points, levels and time alignment are set in the processor, ideally from measurements rather than by ear, and professional tools such as the JL Audio MAX measurement system exist for exactly that job. Our guide on how to set up a DSP in your car explains the steps in plain terms.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio XDM600/6
When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo listed two owner reviews of the XDM600/6, dated May 2024 and May 2025, from owners describing boat and car installations. They praise clean sound with very little noise even close to full volume, how easily it let them tune their speakers to taste, and a premium, powerful feel. The one complaint is that it's expensive.
That is a small sample, and OnlineCarStereo moderates its reviews and may remove negative comments it considers unproven, so read it as encouraging rather than conclusive. We found no independent measurements of this model. If you run an XDM600/6 in your car, we'd welcome a note on how it has performed through an Indian summer.
XDM600/6 vs VX600/6i and XDM400/4
The closest sibling on paper is the JL Audio VX600/6i, which carries identical 75 W x 6 and 100 W x 6 ratings but builds the DSP in, at an MRP of ₹1,89,990. Add a TwK88 at ₹79,990 MRP to the XDM600/6 and the two routes cost almost exactly the same. The real choice, then, is between an all-in-one amplifier with integrated processing and a marine-grade amplifier paired with a processor you can upgrade or relocate on its own.
Against the XDM400/4 at ₹89,990, the XDM600/6 adds two channels for ₹20,000, with a 50 A fuse instead of 40 A. If you only need front and rear speakers, the smaller amplifier is the better buy. If the bass needs more than a bridged 200 W channel, add the XDM600/1 monoblock.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
It suits you if you're building an active front stage around a separate DSP and want all six channels in one slim, corrosion-resistant chassis. It also fits a buyer who wants front, rear and a modest subwoofer from a single amplifier in a car exposed to damp or coastal air.
Skip it if you'd rather have processing built in, in which case the VX600/6i is the tidier package. It's also more amplifier than you need for a plain four-speaker system, and a bridged 200 W channel won't satisfy anyone who wants deep, loud bass.
Installation notes for Indian cars
At 260 mm wide, the XDM600/6 may not fit under every front seat, so measure the space with the seat at both ends of its travel. In SUVs, a boot side panel or the back of the rear seat are common alternatives, provided air can circulate; thermal rollback protection helps it avoid shutting down when hot, but it can't make up for a sealed, sun-baked compartment.
The catalogue photo shows three speaker terminal blocks, and with six channels the wiring gets busy, so label every speaker lead by channel before you connect anything. Keep the RCA cables away from the power cable, earth to bare metal close to the amplifier, and switch the input filter to Car. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.
Price and where to buy
The JL Audio XDM600/6 has an MRP of ₹1,09,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue. We often sell below MRP, so check the current price on our XDM600/6 product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine JL Audio product.

The bottom line
The XDM600/6 is six well-specified channels in a slim, marine-badged chassis, and its natural home is an active front stage driven by a separate DSP. It holds its output well at 12.5 V and needs only a 50 A circuit. If you don't need its corrosion resistance, the VX600/6i deserves a look at nearly the same total cost with the processing built in.
JL Audio XDM600/6 FAQ
Can the JL Audio XDM600/6 run an active three-way front stage?
Yes, it has the six channels needed for a tweeter, midrange and woofer on each side. Its own filters only cover 50 to 500 Hz, though, so an external DSP has to set the crossovers, especially the one between midrange and tweeter.
Does the XDM600/6 have a built-in DSP?
No onboard DSP is listed. JL describes 12 dB/octave high- or low-pass filters on each channel pair, a Car/Boat input filter and three turn-on modes, so time alignment and EQ need a separate processor, or the VX600/6i, which builds one in.
What fuse and cable does the XDM600/6 need?
JL's manual specifies a 50 A fuse. Fit the main fuse close to the battery and size the cable for the run; 4 AWG gives comfortable headroom on a typical run to the boot.
