Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 Review: Four-Layer 4.5 mm Treatment for Floors, Boot and Roof

Oct 7
5 min read

The Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 is a four-layer Acudamp mat: a 4.5 mm sheet of adhesive, butyl, aluminium and closed-cell butyl, which our listing describes as a noise barrier, damping and vibration control treatment with thermal insulation. A pack holds five 460 x 800 mm sheets, an Australian retailer lists 1.84 m² of coverage, and the Indian MRP is ₹13,990. It is the thickest 460 x 800 mm Acudamp sheet we list, and it suits floors, the boot and the roof, where heat and road noise matter as much as panel resonance. See it on our Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 product page.

What the fourth layer adds

The first three layers match the triple-layer Acudamp mats: an adhesive, a butyl damping layer and an aluminium skin, which together stop a panel ringing. The fourth is closed-cell butyl. If the listed order reflects how the sheet is built, that layer sits on the outside, over the aluminium.

Closed-cell materials don't soak up water, and a layer like this generally adds thermal insulation and some decoupling between the panel and whatever sits on top of it, such as carpet or a roof lining. That fits the roles our listing gives it: noise barrier, damping and vibration control, and thermal insulation. No figures for any of them appear in the sources we could read, so we can describe the design but not quantify the result.

Where it makes sense in an Indian car

The floor pan is the obvious place. It carries tyre roar and exhaust heat into the cabin, and an insulating treatment under the carpet is the usual answer to both. The boot floor and spare-wheel well are next, especially with a subwoofer in the boot, followed by the rear wheel arches.

The roof is worth a thought in India. A bare roof panel heats up in the summer sun and drums during monsoon downpours, and a damped, insulated roof helps on both counts. Mind the weight of thicker material overhead and the clearance under the headliner. For the bonnet, our range has a dedicated liner in the MAT HOOD 621.

MAT 345.5, MAT 227.8 or MAT 221.10?

The thinner sheets are triple-layer damping mats. The MAT 227.8 gives eight 2.7 mm sheets covering 2.944 m² on retailer figures, and the MAT 221.10 ten 2.1 mm sheets covering 3.68 m², both at ₹14,990 MRP. The MAT 345.5 costs ₹1,000 less at MRP, and its pack of five thicker sheets covers 1.84 m².

A common approach is to use thinner damping where space is tight, such as door skins behind trim panels, and save the thicker sheet for floors, the boot and the roof. On door skins, 4.5 mm can stop a trim panel seating properly, so check the clearance before committing.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5

We found no owner or professional reviews of the MAT 345.5 when we checked in October 2026. OnlineCarStereo's listing showed no reviews, and Frankies Auto Electrics had none posted. The nearest Indian comment is general: a Team-BHP member in January 2025 recommended Morel sheets bought on offer from a trusted online source for the best value, and said Morel sheets line the rear and boot of their car, without naming the model. If you've used the MAT 345.5 on a floor or roof, we'd like to hear how it went.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if you're treating floors, the boot or the roof and want damping and insulation in one layer, or if heat soaking through the floor and roof bothers you as much as noise.

Skip it if your main job is door skins behind tight trim panels, where the thinner MAT 221.10 or MAT 227.8 fits more easily, or if you need to cover a lot of area from one pack.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A 4.5 mm sheet needs more effort to shape around floor ribs, so cut relief slits where it bends and roll the damping side firmly into the metal. Clean away dust and old adhesive first, keep the car's drain plugs and wiring channels clear, and refit carpets and seats with their original fixings. On the roof, work in sections so heavier pieces don't sag before the adhesive grips; no working temperature range is published in the sources we read, so a roof that bakes in the sun deserves careful preparation. Our guide on how to apply sound damping properly covers the basics, and VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

The bottom line

The Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 is the Acudamp sheet to consider for jobs that are about heat and road noise as well as resonance: 4.5 mm, four layers, five sheets. The detail we could find stops at construction and coverage, with no mass, loss factor or temperature data and no owner reviews yet. Use it where its thickness fits, on floors, in the boot and on the roof, and pair it with thinner Acudamp sheets in the doors.

Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 FAQ

What does the fourth layer of the Morel Acudamp MAT 345.5 do?

Our listing names it as closed-cell butyl, added to the adhesive, butyl and aluminium layers of the thinner mats, and lists the MAT 345.5 for noise barrier, damping, vibration control and thermal insulation roles. Morel's figures for those roles weren't available to us.

How much does one pack cover?

Frankies Auto Electrics lists 1.84 m², which is five sheets of 460 x 800 mm. That is less area than the MAT 221.10 or MAT 227.8, because the pack holds five sheets rather than ten or eight.

Can I use it inside the doors?

You can, but at 4.5 mm it may stop a trim panel seating properly, so check the clearance first. The thinner 2.1 mm and 2.7 mm Acudamp sheets are easier to fit behind door trims.
