Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 Review: Ten 2.1 mm Sheets for a Proper Door Treatment

Oct 7
5 min read

The Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 is a box of ten 2.1 mm damping sheets, each 460 x 800 mm, built from three layers: adhesive, butyl and aluminium. Two retailers put the pack's coverage at 3.68 m², and its Indian MRP is ₹14,990. Of the Acudamp packs we list, it sits between the 15-sheet MAT 121.15 and the thicker, 8-sheet MAT 227.8, and it suits a common job: treating the doors properly when new speakers go in. See it on our Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 product page.

Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 butyl and aluminium damping mat

Quick summary

  • Ten 460 x 800 mm sheets of 2.1 mm adhesive, butyl and aluminium mat; US and Australian retailers list 3.68 m² per pack.

  • Our listing describes it for noise and vibration control and thermal insulation, conforming to sheet metal to remove resonances.

  • Same MRP as the MAT 227.8, which trades 0.6 mm of extra thickness for two fewer sheets.

  • An Indian owner on HiFiVision names it as the damping they bought, but we found no reviews describing results when we checked in October 2026.

Construction and pack size come from our listing; coverage comes from OnlineCarStereo and Frankies Auto Electrics. Morel has its own MAT 221.10 product page, but it wasn't loading when we checked, so we couldn't confirm its figures.

Why damping comes before speakers

A car door is a thin steel box with holes in it, and a speaker mounted in it works against whatever that box does. Without treatment, the outer skin vibrates along with the woofer, colouring the midbass and adding rattles, while the inner skin's openings let the speaker's rear output leak round to the front and cancel some of the bass.

Butyl damping with an aluminium constraining layer addresses the first problem directly: it stiffens and deadens the panel. Covering the large openings in the inner skin helps with the second. That's why a door treatment usually belongs in the same job as a speaker upgrade, whether the speakers are a Morel set such as the Maximo Ultra 602 MKII or anything else.

What 3.68 m² means in practice

The figure is simply ten sheets of 460 x 800 mm. How far it goes depends on the car, on whether you cover both skins of each door, and on how much of each panel you treat. Damping works on a panel's resonance, so it doesn't always need edge-to-edge coverage, but sealing the inner skin's openings uses material quickly.

Plan the job panel by panel and keep any offcuts: they're useful for small resonant areas such as the speaker's immediate surround or the inside of the boot lid. If you run out, the MAT 121.15 offers 15 sheets of the same listed thickness and size.

MAT 221.10 or MAT 227.8?

Both carry an MRP of ₹14,990, so the choice is about thickness against area. The Morel Acudamp MAT 227.8 is 2.7 mm thick in 8 sheets, with 2.944 m² of coverage on the same retailer's figures; this mat is 2.1 mm in 10 sheets and 3.68 m². For the same layer make-up, a thicker sheet adds more mass to each panel it covers, but neither mat has a published mass or loss factor, so the difference can't be quantified.

As a rule of thumb, the extra area of the MAT 221.10 suits jobs where you want to reach more panels, while the thicker sheet suits concentrating treatment on the panels that matter most, such as the outer door skin behind the woofer.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10

When we checked in October 2026, neither OnlineCarStereo nor Frankies Auto Electrics showed any customer reviews. The one Indian owner mention we found is on HiFiVision: in a discussion of Morel upgrades, an owner answering a question about damping costs named the Acudamp 221.10, ten sheets, in an exchange that also mentioned under-seat and dicky areas. They didn't describe the result, so we can't say how it performed.

More general feedback comes from Team-BHP, where a member in January 2025 recommended Morel sheets bought on offer from a trusted online source for the best value and said they use Morel sheets in their own car's rear and boot, without naming a model. If you've fitted the MAT 221.10, we'd like to hear what difference it made.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if you're upgrading door speakers and want a proper treatment of the front doors, or front and rear, from a pack with a published coverage figure.

Skip it if you're treating floors and want insulation as well as damping, where the four-layer MAT 345.5 is the better fit, or if you only need to seal the speakers to the door card, which is what the MAT SPK6 kit is for.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Most doors have a plastic moisture barrier behind the trim panel; keep it or replace it, because water runs down inside the door every time it rains or the car is washed. Clean the metal with a solvent before applying, warm the sheets slightly if the morning is cool, and roll them hard so the butyl fully contacts the steel. In summer, a dark car parked in the sun gets very hot inside the doors, and no working temperature range is published in the sources we read, so good surface preparation matters more than usual. Our guide on how to apply sound damping properly covers the steps.

VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and can build door baffles for your new speakers in the same visit.

Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 - another view

The bottom line

The Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 is the sensible starting point in the Acudamp range for a door treatment: ten sheets of 2.1 mm butyl and aluminium with a published coverage figure. What's missing is Morel's own mass, loss-factor and temperature data, and any owner account of the results. If you'd rather have thicker sheets in the same budget, look at the MAT 227.8.

Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 FAQ

How much area does the Morel Acudamp MAT 221.10 cover?

US and Australian retailers list 3.68 m², which is ten sheets of 460 x 800 mm. How many doors or panels that treats depends on the car and on how much of each panel you cover.

Should I choose the MAT 221.10 or the MAT 227.8?

Both have an MRP of ₹14,990. The MAT 221.10 gives you more area, ten 2.1 mm sheets, while the MAT 227.8 gives you eight thicker 2.7 mm sheets. Choose area for a wider job and thickness to concentrate on key panels.

Will it cope with Indian summer heat?

No working temperature range is published in the sources we could read, and one retailer says only that it resists extreme temperatures. Its damping layer is butyl, per our listing, and careful surface preparation and rolling give the adhesive the best chance in a hot car.
