Morel Elate Carbon 62 Review: Passive 62 or Active 62A?

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel Elate Carbon 62 is a 6.5-inch two-way component set that pairs Morel's MW6 carbon-fibre composite woofers with MT450 silk-dome tweeters, rated at 180 W RMS with 87 dB sensitivity and a quoted 30 Hz – 25 kHz response. We sell it in two forms: the passive Elate Carbon 62 with crossovers, at an MRP of ₹2,19,990, and the active Elate Carbon 62A, the same drivers without crossovers, at ₹1,99,990. By price it sits above the Hybrid sets we list and below the three-way Elate Carbon 63. It suits buyers who already plan on serious amplification, or a DSP, and want a two-way front stage. Both versions are on our Elate Carbon 62 product page and the Elate Carbon 62A active listing.

Morel Elate Carbon 62 6.5-inch two-way component speaker set

The short version

  • Same drivers, two listings: the passive 62 includes MXT280C crossovers; the 62A leaves them out for DSP-based active systems.

  • The MW6 woofer combines an unusually large 75 mm (3-inch) voice coil with a 61 mm mounting depth.

  • With 87 dB sensitivity and 180 W RMS handling, it needs an external amplifier.

  • When we checked in October 2026, we found no published owner or magazine reviews of this exact set.

Figures come from Morel's Elate Carbon installation guide and our store listing; UK dealer Celsus ICE publishes the same headline numbers.

Inside the MW6 woofer and MT450 tweeter

Morel calls the woofer cone a Triple Layer Cone of carbon-fibre composite; its dealer copy describes a carbon fibre and Rohacell sandwich. A stiff, light composite resists flexing as volume rises, and unlike paper it isn't troubled by monsoon humidity.

The motor is the unusual part. A 75 mm voice coil is very large for a 6.5-inch driver; the Morel Hybrid 62 uses 54 mm. It sits on a titanium former, and the Celsus listing adds Hexatech aluminium wire and describes the EVC motor as Klippel-optimised. The guide quotes ±4.75 mm of linear excursion and a 45 Hz free-air resonance, yet the woofer needs only 61 mm of depth.

The MT450 tweeter is a 28 mm Acuflex hand-coated silk dome with a dual neodymium magnet. At 67 mm across, needing 32 mm of depth and a 55 mm hole, it can sit discreetly on an A-pillar or sail panel. Morel rates it at 220 W RMS and 91 dB from 1,400 Hz upwards.

Passive 62 or active 62A: what running active involves

In the passive 62, the MXT280C crossover divides the signal at 2,500 Hz with 12 dB/octave slopes, and a red jumper sets the tweeter level 2 dB up or down. Morel's guide also shows bi-wire and bi-amp connections, so a four-channel amplifier can drive woofers and tweeters on separate channels through the crossover.

The 62A comes with no crossovers, so a processor does that job. Running active means a DSP plus one amplifier channel per driver: four channels for the pair, before any subwoofer. In return you control each driver's crossover point, level and timing. Morel suggests starting with a 2,000 Hz tweeter high-pass, an 1,800 Hz woofer low-pass and a 60 Hz woofer high-pass, all at 12 dB/octave, and notes that the right settings depend on the processor, the cabin and the mounting positions.

Morel's MDSP 8/4A (MRP ₹59,990) puts four 80 W channels at 4 Ω and a DSP in one chassis, with speaker-level inputs for a factory head unit; the Zapco ADSP-Z12 IV-10A offers ten 80 W channels at 4 Ω for bigger systems. Check that your processor can match Morel's suggested filters. The 62A's MRP is ₹20,000 lower, but it needs an external electronic crossover, in practice a DSP, so compare whole systems: the 62 plus an amplifier against the 62A plus a DSP amplifier. An active system stands or falls on its tuning, and DSP tuning is one of our services.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Elate Carbon 62

When we checked in October 2026, we could not find a published owner review or magazine test of the Elate Carbon 62 or 62A. The Celsus ICE listing and OnlineCarStereo's 62A page show no customer reviews, and Morel's product copy is promotional.

A DIYMobileAudio thread on the MW6 woofer exists, but it concerns the driver rather than the set, and we were unable to read it, so we draw nothing from it. If you own an Elate Carbon 62, we would like to hear how it has worked in your car.

Elate Carbon 62 vs Hybrid 62 and Elate Carbon 63

The Hybrid 62 (₹1,09,990 MRP) is rated at 140 W RMS, 91 dB and 35 Hz – 25 kHz. On paper it is 4 dB more sensitive and so easier to drive, while the Elate Carbon 62 handles more power, quotes a slightly deeper 30 Hz and uses the larger voice coil. At about half the passive 62's MRP, the Hybrid 62 is the sensible step down if the amplifier budget is tight.

The Elate Carbon 63 (₹3,19,990 MRP) uses the same woofer and tweeter and adds a 3.5-inch midrange with a three-way crossover, so it needs a mounting spot for the mid. The Elate Carbon MM3 midrange is also sold separately, but the MXT280C is a two-way network, so adding mids later means a new crossover or going active.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Elate Carbon 62 if you want a two-way front stage built around very capable drivers and are budgeting for proper amplification and door work too. Choose the 62A if you run, or plan to run, a DSP with enough channels.

Look elsewhere if you intend to use head-unit power, or the amplifier and installation must come out of the same budget. At 87 dB, the set gives little back without power behind it, and a Hybrid 62 plus a good amplifier is the more practical plan.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Measure the door first: the woofer needs 61 mm of depth and a 141 mm hole, and window glass travel is usually the limit. Factory openings vary, so a high-end 6.5-inch woofer often goes in on a spacer; VA3 Car Studio builds custom door baffles and speaker pods. Damp the door skin while it is open, as our guide to applying sound damping explains.

Mount the tweeters high on the A-pillars or sail panels and aim them across the cabin. Put passive crossovers somewhere dry where the tweeter jumper can still be reached. For the 62A, give the DSP amplifier ventilation, because a car parked in a Delhi summer gets very hot inside. We offer professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.

Price and where to buy

The passive Morel Elate Carbon 62 carries an MRP of ₹2,19,990 and the active Elate Carbon 62A an MRP of ₹1,99,990. We often sell below MRP, so check today's price on the Elate Carbon 62 listing or the Elate Carbon 62A listing. Both are genuine Morel products.

Morel Elate Carbon 62 - another view

The bottom line

The Elate Carbon 62 is a serious two-way set: a carbon-fibre composite woofer with a 75 mm voice coil in a 61 mm-deep basket, a small silk-dome tweeter, and Morel's own guidance for passive and active use. It needs amplification and careful installation, and no independent reviews were available when we checked. The passive 62 is the straightforward route; the 62A makes sense once a DSP is part of the plan.

Morel Elate Carbon 62 FAQ

What is the difference between the Morel Elate Carbon 62 and the 62A?

Both use the same MW6 woofers and MT450 tweeters. The 62 includes Morel's MXT280C passive crossovers; the 62A comes without them, for active systems where a DSP and one amplifier channel per driver handle the crossover. The MRPs are ₹2,19,990 and ₹1,99,990.

Can the Elate Carbon 62 run from a factory head unit?

Not well. Its 87 dB sensitivity is 4 dB lower than the Hybrid 62's, and its 180 W RMS rating is far beyond what a head unit's built-in amplifier delivers. Plan on an external amplifier, or a DSP amplifier if you choose the 62A.

Will the Elate Carbon 62 fit my doors?

The MW6 woofer needs 61 mm of mounting depth and a 141 mm cutout, and the tweeter needs 32 mm and 55 mm. Factory openings vary, so measure your door, including window clearance, or ask us to check fitment before you order.
