Morel Elate Carbon MM3 Review: The 3.5-Inch Midrange from the Elate Carbon 63

Oct 7
5 min read

The Morel Elate Carbon MM3 is a 3.5-inch midrange, sold as a pair, with a 54 mm (2.125-inch) voice coil, 120 W RMS power handling, 87 dB sensitivity and a quoted 90 Hz – 6 kHz response. Its India MRP is ₹1,19,990 for the pair. It is the midrange Morel uses in the three-way Elate Carbon 63, and buying it separately makes sense for two kinds of buyer: Elate Carbon 62 owners moving to a three-way front stage, and builders planning a custom active system. On its own it is a component rather than a complete system, because it needs a crossover or DSP and somewhere solid to mount it. You can see it on our Elate Carbon MM3 product page.

Morel Elate Carbon MM3 3.5-inch midrange speaker pair

Quick summary

  • A 3.5-inch cone midrange with a large 54 mm voice coil and a published response reaching 90 Hz.

  • It needs 38 mm of depth and an 83 mm hole and measures 100 mm across, small enough for dash corners and pillar pods.

  • No crossover comes in the box: run it from a DSP or from a three-way passive network.

  • When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or magazine reviews we could read.

Inside the MM3

The MM3's motor is large for a 3.5-inch driver. Its 54 mm voice coil is the same diameter as the voice coil in the 6.5-inch woofer of the Hybrid 62, and it drives a cone that dealer copy describes as a triple layer of carbon fibre and Rohacell. Morel rates it at 120 W RMS, with the low end quoted at 90 Hz.

The practical benefit is flexibility. A midrange that reaches down to 90 Hz can be crossed over low, which takes the vocal range away from the door woofer, so voices come from a driver mounted higher and closer to the tweeter. With a neodymium magnet and 38 mm of depth, it suits shallow pods and dash locations.

Crossover options: passive or DSP

The MM3 has no crossover, so it has to be fed a band-limited signal. The first route is Morel's passive MXT380C, the crossover supplied with the passive Elate Carbon 63. It hands over to the tweeter at 2,700 Hz with 12 dB/octave slopes and offers a midrange level setting of 0 or −2 dB. The two-way MXT280C in the passive Elate Carbon 62 has no midrange output, so it cannot drive the MM3.

The second route is active. For its three-way active sets, Morel suggests a 450 Hz high-pass and a 3,300 Hz low-pass on the midrange, both at 12 dB/octave, while noting that the right settings depend on the processor, the cabin and the mounting positions. That means two extra amplifier channels for the pair and a DSP to set the filters. DSP tuning is one of the services we offer.

Do the sums before buying piecemeal. A passive 62 plus a pair of MM3 comes to ₹3,39,980 at MRP, while the passive 63 is ₹3,19,990 and already includes the three-way crossover. The MM3 makes most sense for owners who already have the 62, or for custom active builds.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Elate Carbon MM3

When we checked in October 2026, neither the OnlineCarStereo listing nor the Celsus ICE listing in the UK showed customer reviews, and we found no magazine test. Morel's product copy is promotional.

DIYMobileAudio members have discussed it, in a thread comparing the MM3 with Audiofrog's GB25 and another asking what to weigh it against. We were unable to read either thread, so we can't report what they say. If you have fitted a pair, we'd welcome your impressions.

MM3 vs the other Morel midranges we list

We also sell three other Morel midranges. The CDM 700 (₹64,990) is a 3.5-inch soft dome rated at 100 W RMS and 90 dB, with a response quoted from 600 Hz. The Nano MM2 (₹34,990) is a 2-inch ultra-slim cone rated at 60 W RMS and 83 dB from 200 Hz. The CCWR 254 (₹16,990) is a 2.5-inch driver rated at 40 W RMS and 84.5 dB from 300 Hz.

On paper, the MM3 reaches lowest and handles the most power of the four, while the CDM 700 is 3 dB more sensitive. The smaller drivers suit tighter spaces; the MM3 suits builds where the midrange should carry more of the lower vocal range.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Elate Carbon MM3 if you already run an Elate Carbon 62 and want a third way, or you are planning an active front stage with enough DSP and amplifier channels and want a midrange that can be crossed low.

Look elsewhere if you are starting from nothing and want an Elate Carbon three-way, as the complete 63 costs less than the parts. It is also the wrong choice if your dash or pillars can't take a 100 mm driver, where the Nano MM2 is the smaller option.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Placement decides how a midrange sounds. Dash corners and A-pillar pods keep the MM3 near the tweeter and at ear level, and VA3 Car Studio builds custom speaker pods for this kind of installation. Check for curtain airbags in the pillar trim before planning pillar pods, and avoid firing the driver straight into the windscreen.

Give each MM3 a rigid mounting rather than a loose panel that buzzes on rough roads, and leave the 38 mm depth clear of wiring. The midrange adds two channels or a passive three-way network, so plan the amplifier and wiring early. We offer professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.

Price and where to buy

The Morel Elate Carbon MM3 has an MRP of ₹1,19,990 for a pair. We often sell below MRP, so check today's price on the MM3 listing. It is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line

The MM3 is a large-motored 3.5-inch midrange with a published response down to 90 Hz, the same driver Morel puts in the Elate Carbon 63. It is a part, not a plug-in upgrade: it needs a three-way crossover or a DSP, two more channels and a proper mount. For 62 owners and custom active builds it is the matching midrange; for anyone starting fresh, the complete 63 is the more sensible way to buy it.

Morel Elate Carbon MM3 FAQ

Can I add the Morel Elate Carbon MM3 to an Elate Carbon 62?

Yes, but not on the 62's own crossover. The MXT280C is a two-way network with no midrange output, so you need a three-way passive crossover such as the MXT380C from the Elate Carbon 63, or a DSP with two extra amplifier channels.

What crossover points suit the MM3?

For three-way active systems, Morel suggests a 450 Hz high-pass and a 3,300 Hz low-pass on the midrange, both at 12 dB/octave, as starting points. The passive MXT380C hands over from midrange to tweeter at 2,700 Hz.

How much space does the MM3 need?

Each driver needs 38 mm of mounting depth and an 83 mm cutout, and it measures 100 mm across. That usually means dash corners or custom pillar pods rather than factory tweeter locations.
