Morel IP UNI-82 Review: Ultra-Slim 8-Inch Universal Component Speakers

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel IP UNI-82 is a universal two-way component set built around a pair of ultra-slim 8-inch woofers with an inverted neodymium magnet motor, from Morel's Integration Performance range. Morel rates it at 100 W RMS (300 W peak), 92 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V and 40 Hz – 20 kHz, and our listing carries the same figures. Its Indian MRP is ₹54,990, ₹15,000 above the 6.5-inch IP UNI-62. It suits owners who can find room for an 8-inch woofer, want more bass from the front stage than the 6.5-inch sets are quoted for, and will run it from an amplifier. Today's price is on our IP UNI-82 product page.

Morel IP UNI-82 ultra-slim 8-inch universal two-way component speaker set

Quick summary

  • Two 8-inch woofers with an inverted neodymium motor, which Morel describes as ultra-slim, plus 1-inch soft dome tweeters and inline crossovers.

  • A retailer spec sheet gives a top-mount depth of about 49 mm and a 187 mm cutout, so depth is less of an obstacle than the opening size.

  • 92 dB sensitivity and a 100 W RMS rating: workable on a head unit, but an 8-inch woofer really wants an amplifier.

  • No owner reviews we could read; the figures are Morel's own and match our listing.

Morel's own IP-UNI82 product page gives the power, sensitivity, response, motor, tweeter and inline crossover, and our listing matches it. OnlineCarStereo's US listing supplies the impedance, depth and cutout from a detailed spec sheet; it and UK retailer Thomas Performance quote 200 W peak rather than Morel's 300 W.

An 8-inch woofer that doesn't need a deep door

Conventional 8-inch woofers need plenty of depth, because the magnet sits behind the cone. Morel's page lists an inverted neodymium motor for this one, and Thomas Performance explains that the magnet system sits in front of the cone, which lets the woofer stay slim. The retailer spec sheet's top-mount depth of roughly 49 mm is the practical result: in many doors the window glass, not the opening, decides what fits, and a shallow woofer clears more glass.

The opening is the bigger question. A 187 mm cutout is larger than a 6.5-inch speaker needs, so unless your car already has an opening that size, expect a custom baffle, a pod or a different panel location. Thomas Performance mentions door, under-seat and panel locations as possibilities; that is retailer copy, so treat it as a list of ideas rather than a fitment promise. Ask us to check fitment for your car, and VA3 Car Studio builds the door baffles and pods an install like this usually needs.

The tweeter and crossover, per the spec sheet

OnlineCarStereo's spec sheet goes further than Morel's page. It names the woofer IP-UNI8MW and the tweeter MT 25, a 4 Ω soft dome with a 25 mm copper voice coil, a neodymium magnet, a 1,600 Hz – 20 kHz range and only 20 mm of mounting depth. The inline crossovers are listed as first-order (6 dB per octave) filters at 2,700 Hz for the tweeter and 5,000 Hz for the woofer.

The same listing shows flush-mount tweeter housings with brackets, angled surface-mount housings and pre-fitted tweeter grilles in the box. That matters for a universal set: the tweeter can sink into a panel or sit on top of one, angled towards the listener. These details come from the retailer, not from Morel's page.

Head unit or amplifier?

At 92 dB on the 2.83 V basis, the IP UNI-82 matches the 92 dB of the IP HYU62 and IP TOY62, and it is 4 dB more sensitive than the IP UNI-62. A head unit will drive it to everyday levels. But the point of an 8-inch woofer is low-frequency output, and that takes power a head unit doesn't have.

Morel's MDSP 8/4A is rated at 80 W RMS x 4 in our listing, under this set's 100 W, and accepts speaker-level inputs from a factory head unit, with DSP offering input, output and global EQ. With custom-mounted tweeters and large woofers, that EQ is useful, and VA3 also does DSP tuning. If your car has a factory amplifier, tell us when you ask about fitment.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel IP UNI-82

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews of this set that we could read. OnlineCarStereo in the US and Thomas Performance in the UK list it with no customer reviews. Crutchfield has a customer-reviews page for the model, but it didn't load in a readable form for us, so we can't say what it contains.

Morel's own description promises articulation, dynamics and natural sound; that is the maker's promotional copy, not a test. If you've installed an IP UNI-82, we'd like to hear where the woofers went and how they sound.

Morel IP UNI-82 vs IP UNI-62 and the DirectFit sets

The IP UNI-62 is the 6.5-inch universal set: 80 W RMS, 88 dB and 45 Hz – 20 kHz in our listing, at ₹39,990. Its smaller woofers need a smaller opening, while the IP UNI-82 offers 20 W more rated power, 4 dB more sensitivity and a response quoted 5 Hz deeper.

If you drive a covered Hyundai or Toyota and don't need the extra cone area, the IP HYU62 (₹15,990) and IP TOY62 (₹17,490) share this set's 92 dB rating with vehicle-specific wiring adapters, at around a third of the price. They are quoted to 50 Hz rather than 40 Hz.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the IP UNI-82 if you want 8-inch woofers up front, your doors or panels can take a 187 mm opening with a baffle, depth has ruled out conventional 8-inch drivers, and an amplifier is part of the plan.

Look elsewhere if you want a plug-and-play swap, your car is covered by a DirectFit set, or you need owner reviews before spending ₹54,990, because none were readable when we checked.

Installation notes for Indian cars

An 8-inch woofer moves more air than a 6.5-inch one, so the door has more to resonate against. Damp the outer skin and seal the inner panel before fitting; our sound damping guide covers the method. Any baffle should be sealed against monsoon moisture, and the inline crossovers kept dry and tied down.

Plan the tweeter positions early, since the retailer-listed housings allow flush or surface mounting, and aim them across the cabin. Check window clearance through the glass's full travel before closing the door. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Price and where to buy

The Morel IP UNI-82 carries an MRP of ₹54,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the IP UNI-82 product page. Every set we sell is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line

The IP UNI-82 brings two 8-inch woofers to installs where conventional ones would be too deep, thanks to an inverted motor that keeps depth to roughly 49 mm on the retailer spec sheet. Morel's figures of 100 W RMS, 92 dB and 40 Hz – 20 kHz match our listing. The costs are a large opening, custom mounting, an amplifier and a ₹54,990 MRP. If you want 8-inch midbass without a deep door, it belongs on the shortlist.

Morel IP UNI-82 FAQ

Will the Morel IP UNI-82 fit in my doors?

Depth is less likely to be the problem, since a retailer spec sheet lists about 49 mm. The opening is the bigger question at about 187 mm, so unless your car already has one that size, expect a baffle, a pod or a different panel location. Ask us to check fitment before you order.

Does the IP UNI-82 need an amplifier?

It will play on a head unit thanks to its 92 dB sensitivity, but 8-inch woofers need power to deliver their bass. An amplifier such as Morel's MDSP 8/4A, at 80 W RMS x 4, stays under the 100 W RMS rating.

What is the peak power rating of the IP UNI-82?

Morel's own page and our listing give 300 W peak, alongside 100 W RMS. Some retailers quote 200 W peak. For choosing an amplifier, the 100 W RMS figure is the one to use.
