Morel IR MBZ42 Review: Mercedes-Benz Reference Component Set Designed for an Amp and DSP
The Morel IR MBZ42 is a 4-inch (100 mm) two-way component set from Morel's Integration Reference range for Mercedes-Benz, pairing a woofer with a 2.1-inch (54 mm) voice coil and a 28 mm Acuflex silk-dome tweeter on DirectFit mounts with Mercedes-specific plugs. Morel's figures are 100 W RMS with 300 W maximum, 92 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V and a 50 Hz – 25 kHz response. Its Indian MRP is ₹1,09,990, above the IR MBZ4INT point-source model at ₹84,990. It suits Mercedes owners who are planning an amplifier and DSP and want factory-location speakers without cutting. Our Morel IR MBZ42 product page shows today's price.

Quick summary

What the Reference tier adds
Morel's 2023 launch press release presents its Integration kits as two tiers, a better and a best option for clarity, power handling and output. The Performance series is meant for factory amplifiers or moderately powerful aftermarket ones. The Reference series borrows technology from Morel's Hybrid drivers and is meant for systems with a DSP and premium amplification.
For this kit and its BMW twin, the release lists a Damped Polymer Cone (DPC) woofer to cut distortion and coloration, a neodymium motor for efficiency, a low-resonance woofer for midbass, an oversized 2.1-inch voice coil with Morel's EVC motor for power handling and linearity, a low-Q suspension and the hand-crafted 1.1-inch Acuflex tweeter. It is promotional writing, but it is Morel's most specific account of what you get over the Performance tier. The product sheet adds a one-piece cone to reduce break-up and says the design takes its cue from Morel's Hybrid series.
Designed for an amplifier and a DSP
Morel's sheet lists amplifier and DSP upgrades among the kit's design aims. With 92 dB at 2.83 V it is efficient on paper, but the 100 W RMS rating and Morel's own positioning say it is meant to be driven properly rather than left on a factory amplifier.
A four-channel DSP amplifier is the neat way to do that, because it can take the factory signal and handle the processing in one box. Morel's MDSP 8/4A is rated at 80 W RMS x 4 into 4 Ω in our listing, inside this kit's 100 W rating, and comes with a high-level input harness. For background, our piece on the need for DSP in car audio systems covers what a processor changes, and VA3 Car Studio can tune one for you.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel IR MBZ42
Nothing yet, as far as we can find. When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo in the US and Frankie's Auto Electrics in Australia showed no customer reviews for this kit, and our searches of Mercedes forums and Reddit returned only retailer listings and press material.
That leaves Morel's own material, which is promotional: the product sheet, and the press release, which said the Mercedes kits had only just started shipping when it was issued in April 2023. So we can't report owner experience yet. If you have fitted an IR MBZ42, we would like to hear how it sounds in your car.
How it compares: IR MBZ4INT and IR-BMW 42
The Morel IR MBZ4INT is the other Reference choice for Mercedes: an Integra point-source speaker with the 28 mm tweeter mounted concentrically in the woofer. Morel rates it lower, at 80 W RMS and 250 W maximum with 90 dB, and its sheet quotes 80 Hz – 20 kHz against this set's 50 Hz – 25 kHz. It costs ₹84,990 against ₹1,09,990. The component set suits a car whose separate tweeter locations you want to use; the Integra suits one driver per opening.
The Morel IR-BMW 42 is the BMW twin. Morel publishes the same headline figures for both, 100 W RMS, 300 W maximum, 92 dB and 50 Hz – 25 kHz, at the same ₹1,09,990 MRP, but the brackets and plugs are specific to each make. Morel's BMW installation guide also publishes a 2,700 Hz crossover at 12 dB per octave; the Mercedes sheet we found gives no crossover details, so don't assume the two networks are identical.
If you would rather keep the factory amplifier, Morel's press release describes Performance-series Mercedes kits for that job; ask us about them.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you are planning a proper amplifier and DSP, you want separate tweeters in the factory locations, and you value a plug-in install that leaves the car's wiring intact for the day you sell it.
Look elsewhere if you will stay on factory power, where Morel points buyers to its Performance series, or if you prefer one driver per opening, which is the IR MBZ4INT's job. And a 4-inch woofer, even one quoted down to 50 Hz, still works best alongside a subwoofer for the bottom octave.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Morel's sheet promises a modification-free install: DirectFit die-cast aluminium adapters, mounting brackets in the box, and Mercedes-specific plug-in terminals, so no wires are cut. Its press release adds that the Mercedes brackets attach without tools. Morel describes the kit as fitting contemporary Mercedes models but names none, so ask us to check fitment for your car and its audio package.
The amplifier is the bigger job. It needs a fused power feed, a solid ground and a mounting spot with airflow; boot floors and under-seat spaces get very hot in an Indian summer, so leave room around the heatsink. Set the gains with test tones rather than by ear, because clipping is hard on any tweeter. VA3 Car Studio's Ghaziabad workshop can handle the whole installation, amplifier included.
Price and where to buy
At ₹1,09,990 MRP, the Morel IR MBZ42 is on sale through our IR MBZ42 store page, which shows the current price. Mention your car's model and audio package with the order so we can check fitment.
The bottom line
This is Morel's Reference component set for Mercedes-Benz, with separate Acuflex tweeters, a 2.1-inch voice coil woofer and the same headline figures as the BMW version. It installs without cutting, but Morel designs it for an amplifier and DSP, so budget for both alongside it. We found no owner feedback yet, so buy it on Morel's published specifications, not on reputation.
Morel IR MBZ42 FAQ
Does the Morel IR MBZ42 need an amplifier?
Morel lists amplifier and DSP upgrades among the kit's design aims and rates it at 100 W RMS, so plan on an aftermarket amplifier. Buyers keeping the factory amplifier are pointed to Morel's Performance series in its press release.
Which Mercedes-Benz models does the IR MBZ42 fit?
Morel says it integrates into contemporary Mercedes models through its DirectFit adapters and Mercedes-specific connectors, but its sheet lists no models or chassis codes. Before you order, ask us to check fitment for your car.
How is it different from the IR MBZ4INT?
This kit is a component set with separate tweeters, rated at 100 W RMS and 92 dB. The IR MBZ4INT is a point-source Integra with the tweeter mounted in the woofer, rated at 80 W RMS and 90 dB, and its MRP is lower.
Is it the same as Morel's IR-BMW 42?
Morel publishes the same headline figures for both kits, but each has brackets and plugs for its own make. Morel's BMW guide publishes a crossover point and the Mercedes sheet we found does not, so don't assume the two are identical inside.
