Morel IR-BMW 42 Review: Inside Morel's Reference Component Set for BMW
The Morel IR-BMW 42 is a 4-inch (100 mm) two-way component set from Morel's Integration Reference range for BMW: DirectFit midwoofers with 2.1-inch (54 mm) voice coils, 28 mm Acuflex silk-dome tweeters and separate crossovers, all connecting to the factory wiring through BMW-specific plugs. Morel rates it at 100 W RMS (300 W maximum), 92 dB at 2.83 V and 50 Hz – 25 kHz. Its Indian MRP is ₹1,09,990, above the IR-BMW 4INT (₹84,990) and the Performance-series IP-BMW 42C coaxial (₹39,990). It suits BMW owners building an amplified, DSP-tuned system who want separate tweeters in factory positions without cutting. For the current price, see our Morel IR-BMW 42 product page.

Quick summary
Morel's installation guide publishes detailed driver data and a 2,700 Hz crossover at 12 dB per octave.
Twice the IP-BMW42's RMS rating (100 W against 50 W) and 3 dB more sensitivity at the same 2.83 V test voltage.
Designed, in Morel's words, for amplifier and DSP upgrades; a cable splitter takes the signal from the factory connector.
No owner reviews found; the only hands-on account we found concerns Morel's cheaper Performance kits.

What Morel's guide documents
Morel's guide for this set goes well beyond the headline figures. The midwoofer uses a DPC cone and a neodymium motor with a 54 mm voice coil, an 82 Hz resonance and 2.8 Ω DC resistance, and is rated from 50 to 4,200 Hz. Morel's 2023 press release, which is promotional, credits the DPC cone with lower distortion and coloration and the low resonance with better midbass.
The tweeter is a 28 mm Acuflex silk dome with an aluminium-wire voice coil and a vented neodymium magnet, rated at 91.5 dB from 1,600 to 20,000 Hz, with a resonance of 900 Hz and a mounting depth of 20 mm. On paper the tweeter and midwoofer sit within half a decibel of each other in sensitivity.
The wiring diagram shows a cable splitter on the factory connector feeding two crossovers, one high-passing the tweeter and one low-passing the midwoofer, both at 2,700 Hz and 12 dB per octave. Morel's sheet quotes 50 Hz – 25 kHz for the system, while the guide lists the tweeter's own range as ending at 20 kHz.
Positions, power and processing
The guide shows the tweeter in either a front installation or a rear-deck installation with a grille, and the woofer in either a trim panel or a door, using adapter configurations A to D. Which applies depends on your car, so ask us to check fitment before ordering.
Morel's sheet says the kit is designed for amplifier and DSP upgrades. Four channels of roughly 80 to 100 W RMS suit the rating; Morel's MDSP 8/4A, at 80 W RMS x 4 into 4 Ω in our listing with a high-level input harness, sits at the lower end of that. The supplied crossovers split each side between tweeter and midwoofer, and a DSP then handles level, timing and equalisation across the car. VA3 Car Studio does DSP tuning, and our article on why car audio systems need DSP explains why it matters.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel IR-BMW 42
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or reviewer opinions of this kit. OnlineCarStereo in the US invites the first review, Frankie's Auto Electrics in Australia shows none, and our searches of BMW forums, Reddit and YouTube returned only retailer pages.
The nearest hands-on account is a Crutchfield install story from August 2026, and it covers Morel's cheaper Performance-series BMW kits, not this one. It is retailer content about an employee's car. What carries over is the DirectFit method: the speakers used the factory screws and plugged into the existing harnesses. The owner's impressions of better clarity and punchier bass describe that Performance system, so they tell you nothing about the Reference set's sound. If you have fitted an IR-BMW 42, we would like to hear from you.
How it compares: IP-BMW42, IR-BMW 4INT and Awave BW45C
The Performance-series IP-BMW42, covered in our Morel IP-BMW42 review, is rated on Morel's IP-BMW42 sheet at 50 W RMS, 120 W maximum, 89 dB and 80 – 22,000 Hz, with a 28 mm MT100 tweeter. The Reference set doubles the RMS rating, adds 3 dB at the same test voltage and quotes a wider range at both ends. Morel designs the IP kit to work with factory or moderate amplifier power, and describes this one as the solution for DSP systems with premium amplification.
The Morel IR-BMW 4INT shares this guide but is an Integra point-source speaker: 80 W RMS, 250 W maximum, 90 dB and 80 Hz – 25 kHz at ₹84,990. Morel's diagram shows its kit connecting through a single cable, with no separate crossovers in the parts list, so it suits positions where you want one driver rather than a separate tweeter.
For a far smaller budget, the Awave BW45C is a BMW-specific front-door component set at ₹22,990 MRP, rated in our listing at 30 W RMS and 60 W maximum. Its 85.9 dB woofer sensitivity comes without a stated test voltage, so don't compare it directly with Morel's figures.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you are building a system around a DSP and a proper amplifier, your BMW has tweeter positions you want to use, and you want an install you can reverse.
Look elsewhere if you will stay on the factory amplifier, where Morel's Performance kits are the intended choice, or if you prefer a single driver per position, which the IR-BMW 4INT provides. And a 4-inch midwoofer still wants a subwoofer underneath it for the lowest octave.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Morel's press release says the three brackets in each BMW kit attach with three screws, and the BMW-specific plugs and splitters mean no factory wire is cut.
The crossovers are the part to think about. Mount them where water running down inside the door during the monsoon can't reach them, and secure them and their cables so rough roads don't set them rattling. If the midwoofer goes in a door, damping the door skin while it is open helps it make the most of its midbass; our sound damping guide walks through it. Professional installation is available at VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad.
Price and where to buy
The Morel IR-BMW 42 carries an MRP of ₹1,09,990. Current pricing and stock are on our IR-BMW 42 store page; include your car's model and audio package with the order so we can check fitment.

The bottom line
This is Morel's Reference component set for BMW, with separate Acuflex tweeters, DPC midwoofers and a published 2,700 Hz crossover, all fitted without cutting. Morel designs it for an amplifier and DSP, so budget for both. We found no owner feedback to lean on yet, but Morel publishes enough engineering detail for an installer to plan the system properly.
Morel IR-BMW 42 FAQ
What crossover does the Morel IR-BMW 42 use?
Morel's installation guide lists separate tweeter and woofer crossovers at 2,700 Hz with 12 dB per octave slopes, high-pass for the tweeter and low-pass for the midwoofer, fed from a cable splitter on the factory connector.
Can the IR-BMW 42 run on the factory amplifier?
Morel's sheet says it is designed for amplifier and DSP upgrades, and it is rated at 100 W RMS. Morel's press release steers buyers who want to keep the factory amplifier towards its Performance-series kits.
How is it different from the IP-BMW42?
On Morel's sheets the Reference set is rated at 100 W RMS and 92 dB against the IP-BMW42's 50 W and 89 dB, with a wider 50 Hz to 25 kHz range. Both use 28 mm tweeters, but Morel positions the IP kit for factory or moderate power.
Will it fit my BMW?
Morel says the kit fits modern BMW models with the supplied adapters, and its guide points to a QR code for vehicle-specific compatibility rather than listing models. Ask us to check fitment for your car before ordering.
