Morel Nano Carbon 62 Review: A 17 mm-Deep Woofer for Shallow Doors

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel Nano Carbon 62 is a 6.5-inch two-way component set from Morel's Virtus Nano Carbon range, built around a woofer that Morel's installation guide lists at just 17 mm deep. It is rated at 100 W RMS (300 W peak) with 88 dB sensitivity, and pairs a carbon-cone woofer with a soft-dome tweeter and passive crossovers. Its Indian MRP is ₹89,990, below the Hybrid 62 and the Elate Carbon 62 on our price list. It suits doors and factory locations where a conventional 6.5-inch woofer would hit the window glass or the trim. You can check stock and today's price on our Nano Carbon 62 product page.

Quick summary

  • Morel's guide lists the woofer at 17 mm mounting depth, with a 137 mm cut-out and a 54 mm voice coil.

  • 100 W RMS and 88 dB sensitivity: it needs a proper amplifier, more so than the 91 dB Hybrid 62.

  • Passive crossovers with a tweeter-level jumper, or a four-channel active set-up at 2,500 Hz per Morel's guide.

  • No owner reviews of this exact set turned up; related Virtus Nano models have retailer praise and a past EISA award.

Power and sensitivity are from our listing and match the woofer table in Morel's Virtus Nano Carbon installation guide (PDF), which is also the source of the woofer dimensions, cone, coil and magnet details. Morel's product page would not load for us in October 2026.

Why 17 mm matters

Most 6.5-inch woofers need several centimetres behind the mounting face. For comparison, OnlineCarStereo lists the Hybrid 62's woofer at about 62 mm. In many doors that depth runs into the window glass or its channel when the window is down, which is why installers end up with spacer rings or cut metal. A woofer that needs 17 mm sidesteps most of that, and it opens up other shallow mounting spots too.

The cone is a carbon cone with a foam core, according to Morel's guide, and OnlineCarStereo describes it as a triple-layer carbon-fibre sandwich with Rohacell foam. A sandwich cone is a common way to get stiffness without much weight. The guide also lists a 54 mm voice coil and a vented neodymium magnet, which is a large coil for a woofer this slim. The tweeter is the MT120N, which OnlineCarStereo lists as an Acuflex-coated silk dome.

The trade-off is efficiency. At 88 dB, the Nano Carbon 62 is 3 dB less sensitive than the Hybrid 62's 91 dB, which means it needs about twice the amplifier power to play equally loud.

Amplifier, passive and active set-up

A head unit will make it play, but 88 dB sensitivity on head-unit power leaves little headroom, and a clipped head unit is hard on any tweeter. Budget for an amplifier. In passive mode each side's crossover takes one channel, and a red jumper sets the tweeter level up or down, per Morel's guide. With a subwoofer in the system, a high-pass on the woofers, commonly around 60 to 80 Hz, suits a slim driver; our listing's response starts at 50 Hz.

For active use, Morel's guide calls for a four-channel amplifier with active crossovers, and gives 2,500 Hz as the point for both the tweeter high-pass and the woofer low-pass, at 12 dB or 24 dB per octave. Morel's four-channel MDSP 8/4A DSP amplifier, listed at 80 W RMS per channel into 4 ohms, is one way to do it. Active tuning also brings time alignment, which helps centre the image when the woofers sit low in the doors. VA3 Car Studio does DSP tuning, and our DSP explainer covers why it matters.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Nano Carbon 62

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or professional reviews of the Nano Carbon 62 component set itself. OnlineCarStereo's page shows one five-star review, but it praises the shop's stock and service rather than the speakers, so we have not counted it. Crutchfield has a review page for this set, but no reviews loaded for us.

Two related items are worth knowing, clearly labelled. A May 2026 Crutchfield article covers the Virtus Nano Carbon Integra 62, the point-source version from the same range, not this component set. Crutchfield says its employees are often impressed by how accurate that model's silk-dome tweeters are and by the deep bass it produces from an 11/16-inch-deep speaker; Crutchfield sells Morel, so treat this as promotional. Earlier, the EISA Awards 2018-19 gave their Slim Installation Component award to the Morel Virtus Nano Integra 602, shared with SoundWall's PowerSlim PMC600. That was an earlier Virtus Nano model, and the report prints no jury verdict. If you own the Nano Carbon 62, we would like to hear how it has worked in your car.

Morel Nano Carbon 62 vs Hybrid 62, Nano Carbon 63 and Elate Carbon 62

The Hybrid 62 (₹1,09,990) is the more efficient and more powerful two-way on paper, at 91 dB and 140 W RMS in our listing, but its woofer needs far more depth. If your doors have room, it is the easier set to drive; if they don't, the Nano Carbon 62 may be the only one of the two that fits without spacers.

The Nano Carbon 63 (₹1,19,990) adds a 2-inch MM2 midrange to the same slim layout, and the Nano MM2 is sold separately too. Further up our price list sits the Elate Carbon 62 (₹2,19,990). For other Morel two-ways on our blog, see the Sensus 62 and Virtus 62.2 reviews.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Nano Carbon 62 if depth is your problem: doors where the glass sits close to the speaker opening, or shallow panels where a normal woofer will not go. It also suits owners who want a carbon-cone Morel set and are happy to add an amplifier.

Look elsewhere if you plan to stay on head-unit power, or your doors have plenty of depth. In that case the more sensitive Hybrid 62 makes more of each watt.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A 17 mm woofer is far less likely to clash with the window glass, but check the cut-out and outer diameter against the factory opening; many openings need an adapter. VA3 Car Studio builds custom door baffles, and even a slim woofer benefits from a rigid, sealed mounting face. Damp the door while it is open, because a thin door skin will rattle long before the speaker runs out of power; our sound-damping guide explains how.

Mount the tweeters high, on the A-pillar, sail panel or dash corner, and ask us to build tweeter pods if there is no flat surface. Keep the crossovers away from the wet side of the door. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Price and where to buy

The bottom line

This set solves a fitment problem first: a 6.5-inch carbon-cone woofer that Morel lists at 17 mm deep, with a soft-dome tweeter and Morel's own passive and active guidance. The price of that slimness is efficiency, so plan on an amplifier. We found no owner reviews of this exact set, only related Virtus Nano feedback, so treat it as a shallow-door specialist and judge it on the install.

Morel Nano Carbon 62 FAQ

How shallow is the Morel Nano Carbon 62 woofer?

Morel's installation guide lists a 17 mm mounting depth for the woofer, with a 137 mm cut-out and 167 mm outer diameter. OnlineCarStereo gives a similar 11/16-inch top-mount depth.

Does the Nano Carbon 62 need an amplifier?

It is strongly advisable. At 88 dB sensitivity it needs about twice the power of a 91 dB set for the same volume, and a head unit leaves little headroom for the 100 W RMS it can handle.

Can the Nano Carbon 62 be run active?

Yes. Morel's guide calls for a four-channel amplifier with active crossovers, with the tweeter high-passed and the woofer low-passed at 2,500 Hz, at 12 or 24 dB per octave.
