Alpine S2-S65C Review: Hi-Res 6.5-Inch Components and Where to Put the Tweeters
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine S2-S65C is a 6.5-inch (16.5 cm) two-way component set from Alpine's next-generation S-Series: two woofers, two 25 mm tweeters in swivel housings and in-line crossovers, rated at 80 W RMS and 240 W peak into 4 Ω with 88 dB sensitivity and Hi-Res Audio certification up to 40 kHz. Its Indian MRP is ₹17,999, which sits between the S2-S65 coaxial and the ₹32,999 R-Series R2-S65C. It suits buyers who want the better stereo image of separate tweeters without R-Series money, and who are happy to plan where those tweeters will go. You can check the set and today's price on our S2-S65C product page.

Key takeaways
Separate tweeters can sit high on the dash, A-pillar or door sail, lifting the sound to ear level; Alpine UK lists a 51 mm flush cutout and 17.6 mm depth for them.
In-line crossovers keep wiring simple, but Alpine lists no tweeter level control, so placement and tuning matter more than usual.
88 dB and 80 W RMS suit head-unit power now and a four-channel amplifier such as the S2-A36F later.
Best Buy's 62 reviews average 4.5, though the large majority we could read are incentivised; the niggles raised include fragile tweeter mounts, fiddly tweeter fitting in one car and modest mid-bass.

Why the tweeter position is the whole point
A coaxial in the lower door fires its tweeter from down there, so vocals can seem to come from your knees. A component set lets you move the tweeter up to the dash, A-pillar or door sail panel, and that one change is what makes a stage feel like it sits on the dashboard. It is the main reason to choose the S2-S65C over the S2-S65 coaxial, which shares its power rating, sensitivity and cone materials in Alpine's figures.
Alpine has made the tweeters flexible. Alpine UK describes swivel housings, and Alpine India says the adjustable tweeters have a removable flush-mount housing so they fit small factory locations. If your car already has a tweeter position, the 51 mm cutout and 17.6 mm depth are the figures to check; if not, plan a custom location, and use the swivel to angle them. Aim them across the cabin toward the opposite seat rather than straight at the nearest ear.
Crossovers, brightness and tuning
The crossovers are in-line, which Alpine says keeps installation quick. That avoids mounting separate crossover boxes, but Alpine's pages list no tweeter level control. The R2-S65C, by contrast, has a three-step tweeter level. That matters because one OnlineCarStereo owner found the highs a little piercing when pushed hard. Without a level switch, your tools are placement, aiming the tweeters off-axis, or an amplifier or DSP with equalisation; our guide to setting up a DSP explains the process.
On power, 88 dB sensitivity means the set plays at everyday levels from a head unit, useful if you keep a factory touchscreen. For more volume, Alpine's S2-A36F gives 60 W RMS per channel into 4 Ω, inside the 80 W RMS rating, and accepts speaker-level input from a factory head unit through an optional cable. One owner reports strong results on a basic amplifier.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine S2-S65C
All the feedback we found is from US retailers. This is what we found when we checked in October 2026.
On Best Buy, 62 reviews average 4.5 out of 5: 48 five-star, five four-star, three three-star, two two-star and four one-star, with 85% recommending the set. Sound quality dominates the praise, followed by easy installation and value; a few reviewers want more mid-bass. Two four-star reviews flag practical issues: one had to get creative mounting the tweeters in a 2005 Honda Accord, and another had a tweeter mount's locking mechanism fail during reassembly and glued it. Note that the large majority of the 20 reviews we could see carry Best Buy's label that the reviewer received promo considerations or a sweepstakes entry.
OnlineCarStereo shows three reviews from November 2023 to September 2025. Owners praise an excellent midrange, good tweeters, better mid-bass than factory speakers and a budget-friendly upgrade. One says bass is limited without a subwoofer, and one finds the highs a little piercing when pushed hard. The site moderates reviews to remove unproven negative comments, so even these complaints come from a favourable sample. Alpine's pages are promotional, and we found no independent test.
S2-S65C vs R2-S65C and S2-S65
The R2-S65C (₹32,999 MRP) adds a higher 100 W RMS and 300 W peak rating, magnesium hard-dome tweeters, that tweeter level adjustment and grilles in the box. Its 88 dB sensitivity is the same as the S2-S65C on Alpine UK's figures, so it won't play louder on equal power. The R2 suits a stronger amplifier and owners who want adjustment built in; the S2 makes more sense where the budget is better spent on damping and installation.
The S2-S65 coaxial (₹13,999 MRP) is the simpler, cheaper route with the same rating, but its tweeter stays in the door. For rear fill behind an S2-S65C front stage, the S2-S65 or the S2-S69 6x9 keep the system in one family.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the S2-S65C if you want a proper front stage with tweeters up high, you're willing to plan tweeter placement, and you'll run it from a head unit now or a modest amplifier later.
Look elsewhere if you want a two-wire drop-in job with no tweeter mounting, in which case the S2-S65 is easier, or if you're sensitive to bright treble and won't use a DSP, where the R2-S65C's level control helps. For real bass, add a subwoofer such as the S2-W10.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Check the woofer first: Alpine UK lists a 128 mm cutout and 57.7 mm depth, so confirm window-glass clearance and plan an adapter ring if needed. Then decide on tweeter placement before you buy, and take extra care with the tweeter mounts, which one owner found fragile. Route the in-line crossovers away from the door's wet zone and tie them down so they don't rattle on rough roads. Damping the doors pays off because the woofer handles all the mid-bass; see our sound damping guide. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and can check fitment for your car first.
Price and where to buy
The Alpine S2-S65C carries an India MRP of ₹17,999 for the set, with effect from 1 June 2026. Check today's price and stock on our Alpine S2-S65C component set listing. Every set we sell is a genuine Alpine product.
The bottom line
This is Alpine's S-Series route into a component front stage: a woofer with the S2 coaxials' light composite cone, tweeters that swivel and flush-mount, and simple in-line crossovers. The trade-offs are that no tweeter level control is listed and that one buyer found a tweeter mount fragile. Place the tweeters well, add an amplifier when you can, and it will image better than a door-mounted coaxial.
Alpine S2-S65C FAQ
Does the Alpine S2-S65C have tweeter level adjustment?
None is listed. Alpine's pages describe in-line crossovers without a level control, unlike the R2-S65C. If the highs sound bright, aim the tweeters off-axis or use an amplifier or DSP with equalisation.
Can the S2-S65C tweeters go in factory tweeter locations?
Alpine India says the removable flush-mount housing is meant for small factory locations, and Alpine UK lists a 51 mm cutout and 17.6 mm depth. Measure your car's position, or ask us to check.
Do I need an amplifier for the S2-S65C?
Not to start. Its 88 dB sensitivity lets it play at everyday volumes on head-unit power. Alpine's S2-A36F, at 60 W RMS per channel, sits inside the 80 W RMS rating when you want more.
