AudioControl D-4.800 Review: Specifications, Installation and Comparisons
Quick summary: the buying decision
The D-4.800 suits a build that needs 4 channels of amplification and a full matrix DSP in one chassis, especially when the factory head unit stays. It delivers 4 x 125 W RMS at 4 ohm or 4 x 200 W RMS at 2 ohm, and every channel is tuned in AudioControl's free DM Smart DSP app. Budget for a proper power cable run and a measurement-based tune to get the full benefit.
AudioControl D-4.800: what it is
The AudioControl D-4.800 pairs a 4-channel amplifier with AudioControl's matrix DSP in a cast aluminium chassis, delivering 4 x 125 W RMS at 4 ohm or 4 x 200 W RMS at 2 ohm. It can be configured as a 4, 3 or 2-channel amplifier for factory or aftermarket systems.
The D-series combines AudioControl's matrix DSP with amplifier channels in a one-piece aluminium chassis. The D-4.800 can be configured as a 4, 3 or 2-channel amplifier: four channels suit front and rear speakers or an active front 2-way set; in 3-channel mode one pair is bridged for a subwoofer while the other pair drives the front speakers.

Specifications explained
Rated power at 14.4 V is 4 x 125 W at 4 ohm and 4 x 200 W at 2 ohm, with 400 W RMS from a bridged pair at 4 ohm. AudioControl quotes a 20 Hz – 24 kHz frequency response, a signal-to-noise ratio of 102 dBA (ref. 200 W at 2 ohm) and THD+N of less than 0.1%.
It has 6 speaker-level inputs (3 – 40 V RMS) and 4 balanced preamp inputs (250 mV – 8 V RMS), plus two preamp outputs (up to 8.5 V RMS) for adding another amplifier later. The DSP provides a 30-band equaliser and 12 and 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossovers.

Factory integration and inputs
The speaker-level inputs accept 3 – 40 V RMS, which covers most factory head units and many factory amplifiers. Input and output RTAs help you find which factory channels carry which frequencies, so a filtered factory signal can be summed back to full range before the DSP applies new crossovers. AccuBASS compensates for factory bass roll-off, GTO signal sensing can switch the amplifier on without a remote wire, and MILC (maximum input level control) helps match the input to the source.
Tuning with the DM Smart DSP app
Tuning is done in AudioControl's free DM Smart DSP app on a Mac or PC, or on iOS and Android with the optional AC-BT24. Work in this order: route and sum the inputs, set crossovers to protect each driver, set levels and time alignment for the driver's seat, then equalise from measurements. The optional ACR-3 remote adds level control and preset recall.
A measurement microphone and analyser make the equalisation step far more reliable; see our DM-RTA review for the measurement side.
Wiring and fusing
AudioControl specifies 8 to 3 AWG power and ground wire, and the amplifier carries 2 x 40 A fuses. Choose the cable gauge for your run length and current draw, fit a main fuse close to the battery to protect that cable, and keep the ground short and on bare metal. The amplifier measures 9.0 x 8.0 x 2.1 in (W x D x H) and weighs 2.3 kg (5.0 lb).

How it compares
Within the D-series:
AudioControl D-6.1200: 6 x 125 W RMS at 4 ohm, 8 speaker-level inputs, app-tuned DSP, ₹1,74,240
AudioControl D-5.1300: 4 x 100 W + 1 x 300 W RMS at 4 ohm, 8 speaker-level inputs, app-tuned DSP, ₹1,74,240
The AudioControl LC-4.800 has the same rated power and, at VA3 Car Studio's current prices, the same price, but it swaps the app-tuned DSP for crossovers set on the amplifier, so the D-4.800 is the stronger buy unless you specifically want amplifier-mounted controls. If you already own amplifiers, the DM-810 processor gives you the DSP without amplifier channels.
Price and value in India
At the time of writing (October 2026), VA3 Car Studio lists the D-4.800 at ₹89,240, 15% below the MRP of ₹1,04,990. Compared with buying a separate processor and amplifier, one chassis saves money, space and wiring, which matters in compact Indian cars. Prices can change, so the product page always shows the current price.
Verdict: who should shortlist the D-4.800
The D-4.800 is a strong fit when you want factory integration, full DSP and amplification in one box. If you only need power for an aftermarket system that already has a processor, a conventional amplifier costs less.
Real-world reviews and limitations
We have not yet published a VA3 installation report for the D-4.800. The figures in this review are AudioControl's published specifications, not our own measurements, and real-world results depend on the installation, the wiring and the tune. If you have used one, we would welcome your feedback.
