Quick summary: the buying decision

The EPIC1000 is a 1-ohm-stable Class D monoblock from AudioControl's EPIC series: 400 W RMS at 4 ohm, 700 W RMS at 2 ohm and 1,000 W RMS at 1 ohm. It includes an ACR-E remote bass knob and EPIC Boost bass EQ, and it takes line-level inputs, so a factory head unit needs a line output converter.

AudioControl EPIC1000: what it is

The AudioControl EPIC1000 is a compact, 1-ohm stable Class D monoblock subwoofer amplifier from the EPIC series, delivering 400 W RMS at 4 ohm, 700 W RMS at 2 ohm and 1,000 W RMS at 1 ohm. An ACR-E remote bass knob is included.

EPIC monoblocks share 12 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley low-pass (40 to 180 Hz) and subsonic (off to 50 Hz) filters, EPIC Boost (30 to 80 Hz, 0 to 12 dB), an Epicenter Link for AudioControl's The Epicenter bass restoration processor, smart auto-reset protection and an included ACR-E remote.

  • 4-gauge power and 8-gauge speaker terminals with hex-screw direct-wire connections

Specifications explained

Rated power at 14.4 V is 400 W at 4 ohm, 700 W at 2 ohm and 1,000 W at 1 ohm, and two amplifiers can be strapped for 1 x 2,000 W at 2 ohm. AudioControl quotes a frequency response of 10 Hz – 190 Hz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 92.1 dBA (ref. 400 W at 4 ohm).

Line-level inputs accept 500 mV – 12 V RMS.

Matching subwoofers and impedance

Decide the final impedance first: power rises as impedance falls, from 400 W at 4 ohm to 1,000 W at 1 ohm. At 1 ohm its 1,000 W can drive two AudioControl EPICX10D4 or EPICX12D4 subwoofers wired to 2 ohm each (about 500 W each); at 2 ohm its 700 W suits two 4-ohm 350 W subwoofers such as the SPK-8S4 in parallel.

Filters, EPIC Boost and remote

Set the low-pass filter to blend with the front speakers and use the subsonic filter to protect subwoofers, especially in ported boxes. EPIC Boost adds up to 12 dB around a chosen frequency between 30 and 80 Hz; every 3 dB of boost needs twice the power, so use it carefully. The included ACR-E remote adjusts bass level from the driver's seat.

Wiring, fusing and the electrical system

AudioControl specifies 4 AWG power and ground wire, 8 AWG speaker wire at the terminals and a 100 A fuse. Fit the main fuse close to the battery and keep the ground short and on bare metal. The amplifier measures 6.1 x 9.41 x 2.01 in (W x L x H).

Price and value in India

At the time of writing (October 2026), VA3 Car Studio lists the EPIC1000 at ₹33,990, 15% below the MRP of ₹39,990. The EPIC range gives a lot of power per rupee; remember to budget for wiring and, at higher outputs, electrical upgrades. Prices can change, so the product page always shows the current price.

Verdict: who should shortlist the EPIC1000

The EPIC1000 is a sensible middle ground: enough power for two 500 W subwoofers at 1 ohm without the electrical demands of the bigger models.

Real-world reviews and limitations

We have not yet published a VA3 installation report for the EPIC1000. The figures in this review are AudioControl's published specifications, not our own measurements, and real-world results depend on the installation, the wiring and the tune. If you have used one, we would welcome your feedback.
