Audison APBMW K4E Review: 4-Inch BMW and Mini Kit, Amp and DSP Pairing

6 min read

The Audison APBMW K4E is a 100 mm (4 in) two-way component kit from Audison's Prima range for BMW and Mini, rated at 50 W continuous and 100 W peak into 4 ohm, with a separate 29 mm tweeter and a crossover. Audison says it was developed for BMW-Mini models that have factory two-way systems. The Indian MRP is ₹49,990. Audison's pages give no amplifier advice and no overall dimensions, so this review concentrates on amplifier and DSP planning, the gaps in the published data and the comparison with the K4M. See it on our Audison APBMW K4E product page.

Audison APBMW K4E 4-inch two-way component kit for BMW and Mini

Key takeaways

  • Audison gives no amplifier recommendation for the K4E. It says only that the midrange has a low resonance that allows a high-pass cut-off in the 150 to 200 Hz range.

  • Neither Audison's K4E page nor its datasheet gives overall dimensions, a mounting depth or a cut-out.

  • The K4E page labels its crossover row Low-Pass, but the value is a high-pass: 6 kHz at 6 dB per octave.

  • We found no customer reviews for the K4E when we checked in October 2026.

Figures come from Audison's K4E page, its technical datasheet and our listing.

Quirks on Audison's K4E page and datasheet

Two details need care. The page labels the crossover row Crossover Low-Pass, but the value is high-pass 6 kHz at 6 dB per octave, which matches the datasheet and our listing. The datasheet's sensitivity row shows 89 with a unit printed as Hz, which looks like a unit error, so we use the separate woofer 88 dB and tweeter 90 dB figures that Audison gives (some retailers print 89 dB). Neither changes the ratings, but check any single figure against a second source.

Pairing the Audison APBMW K4E with an amplifier or DSP

Audison's K4E page and datasheet give no amplifier recommendation, and its manual gives none for any APBMW model. Two other sources go further, and neither is Audison. A Finnish retailer says the kit is sensitive enough for a standard car stereo and reaches its full potential with an Audison Bit-series DSP amplifier. BestCarAudio's sponsored post says the range works with the factory radio or amplifier, or with a dedicated DSP amplifier. Treat both as opinion.

If you add an amplifier, match its clean output per channel at 4 ohm to the 50 W continuous rating, not the 100 W peak. Our store lists several Audison Forza amplifiers, including the compact four-channel Class D AF C4D and the compact four-channel DSP amplifier AF C4.10 bit; check each one's rated output against the kit before you decide. Our guides to whether you need an amplifier and why DSP matters cover the basics, and VA3 Car Studio offers DSP tuning.

Tweeter placement and the missing dimensions

Audison sizes only the 100 mm woofer, the 80 mm cone, the 29 mm tweeter and the 30 cm extension. One retailer's K4E page prints midbass dimensions that are identical to Audison's X4E drawing, so we treat them as unconfirmed for the K4E and do not repeat them. For the tweeter, Audison says only that a support is supplied for plug-and-play OEM placement. The same retailer says a front-door install needs an existing factory tweeter slot in the door triangle or A-pillar, and that a missing tweeter cup has to be bought from a BMW store. Audison does not say this and we have not verified it for cars sold in India, so ask us what your car has before you order.

Audison APBMW K4E vs K4M and X4E

Against the K4M, the K4E has the same ratings, tweeter and crossover on Audison's pages. The published differences are woofer Mms (6.3 g against 6.4 g), Qms (8.2 against 8.9) and weight (0.46 kg against 0.426 kg). Our K4M review has the table and sets the K4M beside Morel's IR-BMW 42. The coaxial alternative is the APBMW X4E, rated 40 W continuous and 80 W peak with no crossover described, at the same ₹49,990 MRP. Audison words their use differently: the X coaxials for models that do not allow a two-way system at the front, and the K kits for models with factory two-way systems.

What owners and reviewers say about the Audison APBMW K4E

We found no customer reviews for the K4E when we checked in October 2026. Neither OnlineCarStereo, Audiokauppa nor Sound of Tristate shows any for it.

The most detailed write-up we found is a September 2021 BestCarAudio spotlight. It is labelled as a sponsored post, so we treat it as promotional, and it has no measurements. It describes the K4E as a 4-inch midrange with a 29 mm tweeter and a crossover it calls CXTM 1, with 0 and -3 dB options; Audison's own pages do not name the crossover. The only customer comment we found is an undated review on a UK retailer's MINI door-speaker upgrade kit built from Audison Prima speakers. It calls the kit a big improvement over the base speakers, even without extra amplification, but the page does not name the Audison model, so it may not be the K4E. If you own one, tell us how it sounds in your car.

Who should buy the Audison APBMW K4E, and who shouldn't

Buy it if your car has a factory two-way layout, you are happy to plan an amplifier or DSP around a 50 W continuous kit, and you have confirmed fitment, depth and tweeter position with us.

Look elsewhere if you want a single-unit coaxial (the X4E or X4M), need published dimensions before ordering, or need Audison to name your car, which its product pages do not do. Retailers abroad publish model lists that we have not verified for India.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Audison's general APBMW manual says to turn off the head unit and other audio devices before installing and to keep speakers away from water, excess humidity, dust and dirt. That last point matters in a door during the monsoon, so treat the panel with damping; our guide to sound damping explains how. The manual also warns that long exposure to high sound pressure may damage hearing. Audison lists a separate APBMW A4E mount for BMW models with non-standard fixings, and its page names no models. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Audison APBMW K4E price and where to buy

The Audison APBMW K4E carries an MRP of ₹49,990, the same as the K4M and the X4E and X4M coaxials. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the K4E product page.

Audison APBMW K4E - another view

The bottom line

The Audison APBMW K4E is a two-way kit with a listed crossover and tweeter support, a woofer 34 g heavier than the K4M's and little published fitment data. Audison gives no amplifier advice or dimensions, and no owner has reviewed it where we looked. Send us your car's details, let us check fitment, depth and tweeter position, then plan the amplifier or DSP around the 50 W continuous rating.

Audison APBMW K4E FAQ

Does the Audison APBMW K4E need an amplifier?

Audison gives no amplifier recommendation. One retailer says the kit works with a standard car stereo and does best with a Bit-series DSP amplifier, which is the retailer's view, not Audison's. If you add an amplifier, size it to the 50 W continuous rating.

What are the dimensions of the Audison APBMW K4E?

Audison gives a 100 mm woofer, an 80 mm cone diameter, a 29 mm tweeter and a 30 cm extension, but no overall dimensions, mounting depth or cut-out. A retailer's figures match Audison's X4E drawing, so we treat them as unconfirmed. Ask us to check clearance.

Is the Audison APBMW K4E crossover high-pass or low-pass?

High-pass. Audison's K4E page labels the row Crossover Low-Pass, but the value is 6 kHz at 6 dB per octave, and the datasheet and our listing both say high-pass.

Will the Audison APBMW K4E fit my BMW or Mini?

Audison's pages say BMW-Mini and give no series, models or years. Send us your car's make, model and year and we will check fitment, tweeter position and depth before you order.
