DS18 6XL650NB-4 Review: 325 W RMS Neodymium 6.5-Inch XL Mid-Range
The DS18 6XL650NB-4 is a 165 mm (6.5-inch) neodymium XL-series mid-range loudspeaker with a 2-inch voice coil and a black aluminium bullet, rated by DS18 at 325 W RMS into 4 ohms and a separate 650 W maximum. At ₹24,990 MRP it is the most expensive of the eight single DS18 mid-range and full-range drivers we list, and it suits a buyer with a large amplifier or DSP who wants a 6.5-inch driver with a 72 mm mounting depth and a published response from 80 Hz to 12.5 kHz. You can see it on our DS18 6XL650NB-4 product page.

Quick summary
DS18 lists 325 W RMS and a separate 650 W maximum, and a heading on DS18's own page leads with 650 Watts and no RMS label.

Figures come from our listing, checked against DS18's 6XL650NB-4 product page and its owner's manual (manufacturer material, so promotional). DS18's spec table shows both 4 ohm and 8 ohm; this post covers our 4-ohm listing.
325 W RMS or 650 W: reading DS18's labels
DS18's page title reads 325 Watts Rms, and its manual lists 325 W RMS beside 650 W MAX. A heading in the page's product overview leads with 650 Watts and no RMS label. Only 325 W is an RMS figure, and it is the one to set against an amplifier channel's RMS output at 4 ohms. DS18's help page describes RMS as the constant power supplied to the speaker, notes that every amplifier also has a max output, and advises choosing an amplifier that can output the correct RMS rating for your speakers.
Our own view, not DS18's, is that a rating is a ceiling for the driver, not a target for the amplifier: a smaller amplifier is a workable partner if it never clips. DS18's warranty page lists use outside recommended parameters (overpowering is its example) and distortion or clipping from improper tuning among its exclusions, so gain and filter settings are part of the decision.
Neodymium rings and a 72 mm depth
DS18 lists neodymium rings (11.4 oz) where the 6XL600-4 lists a ferrite magnet (34 oz). We have no output or weight data to compare the two, so we do not read the difference as better or worse. The 72 mm mounting depth is 8 mm less than the 6XL600-4's 80 mm.
Where it plays: 80 Hz to 12.5 kHz
DS18 publishes an 80 Hz to 12.5 kHz response and recommends a 100 Hz high-pass, the same recommendation as the 6XL600-4. The two share the 12.5 kHz upper limit, but this driver's published starting point is 80 Hz against 60 Hz. Low bass belongs to a subwoofer, and anything above 12.5 kHz to a tweeter.
Setting a 100 Hz high-pass needs an amplifier with adjustable filters or a DSP. Our article on why a DSP matters in a car system explains what it adds, and VA3 Car Studio does DSP tuning. The 97 dB figure is DS18's rating under its own test conditions; we have not measured it.
What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 6XL650NB-4
When we checked in October 2026, the only buyer feedback we could read was two undated reviews on DS18's own shop page. One reviewer fitted the speakers in a pickup truck, was pleased with the sound from the factory radio and plans to add an amplifier later. The other needed sheet-metal modification and an adapter to fit them in a sedan, reports no complaints and also uses the stock head unit without an amplifier.
Both reviews sit in the first bar of an unlabelled rating breakdown, which we read as the top rating, but the page does not say so. Both vehicles are US-market models, so the reviews say little about Indian cars, and neither describes an amplified setup. Two reviews are a very small sample, and DS18's shop does not say how it moderates reviews. We found no forum threads or independent retailer reviews we could read, and large marketplaces such as Amazon block automated reading. If you own one, tell us how it behaves in your car.
DS18 6XL650NB-4 compared with other 6.5-inch DS18 drivers
The DS18 6XL600-4 (₹13,990 MRP) is the other 6.5-inch XL driver we list. It has a ferrite magnet, a 300 W RMS rating (25 W less), a 60 Hz to 12.5 kHz response and an 80 mm mounting depth, and it costs ₹11,000 less at MRP. The DS18 PRO-FR6NEO (₹19,990 MRP) is the other neodymium 6.5-inch driver we list: a full-range design rated at 225 W RMS with a 200 Hz recommended high-pass, a 60 mm mounting depth and a grille in the box. It costs ₹5,000 less at MRP.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you are building a front stage around a large amplifier or DSP, you want a neodymium 6.5-inch driver rated at 325 W RMS, and your mounting position has a 150 mm cut-out and 72 mm of depth.
Look elsewhere if a grille in the box matters to you, or if the 6XL600-4 at ₹11,000 less at MRP already covers the power and frequency range you need.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Measure before ordering. The 150 mm cut-out, 72 mm mounting depth and 81 mm overall depth are DS18's figures, and window glass travel and the door skin decide whether they fit your car. The 6.5-inch DS18 drivers we list do not share one cut-out: it is 145 mm for the PRO-X6.4BM and PRO-FR6NEO, 149 mm for the 6PRO300MR-4 and 150 mm for both XL drivers. One reviewer needed sheet-metal modification and an adapter in a sedan; we cannot say whether your car will need either. VA3 Car Studio builds door baffles and speaker pods and offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.
Terminal details are not in our listing or the DS18 pages we read, so check the terminals against your cable. Door cavities see water in the monsoon, so keep the moisture barrier intact, and damp the panel as our sound damping guide describes.
Price and where to buy
The DS18 6XL650NB-4 carries an India MRP of ₹24,990 and is sold as a single piece, so a pair means two (₹49,980 at MRP). VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the 6XL650NB-4 product page. Warranty terms are DS18's own, and its warranty page does not say how they apply to purchases outside the US, so confirm the India terms with us before you buy.

The bottom line
The 6XL650NB-4 is the neodymium one of the two 6.5-inch XL drivers we list, rated at 325 W RMS with an 80 Hz to 12.5 kHz response and a 72 mm mounting depth. Read the power labels carefully, size the amplifier on RMS, and measure the opening before you order.
