7 min read

The DS18 PRO-TW820 is a 2.3-inch high-compression super bullet tweeter with a neodymium magnet and an aluminium diaphragm, rated at 100 W RMS (program) and 200 W peak into 4 ohm, with a listed sensitivity of 105 dB. Its Indian MRP is ₹7,990, and it is the smallest of the three PRO-series tweeters we list. Its listing is also the only one of the three that mentions a mounting ring and gaskets, and the only one that states the bass blocker's value. It suits an installer who wants a compact surface-mount tweeter for a pod or dash and can filter it properly. Below we sort out the power labels, explain the crossover advice, report what DS18's own shop reviews say and compare it with its siblings. You can see it on our DS18 PRO-TW820 product page.

DS18 PRO-TW820 2.3-inch high-compression super bullet tweeter

Key takeaways

  • It is sold as a single tweeter, so a left-and-right pair means buying two.

  • The listing gives 100 W RMS (program), 200 W peak and 50 W AES. The 200 W in DS18's page title and web address is the peak or MAX figure, not RMS.

  • The response is listed from 700 Hz, but DS18's recommended high-pass is 3 kHz. Follow the 3 kHz figure.

  • The mounting ring and two gaskets let you fit it flush or raised, with a depth that adjusts from 42 mm.

Figures come from the DS18 product page and the PRO-TW820 manual, matched against our listing. DS18's page heading mentions a 1.4 in aluminium voice coil, but its spec table and manual give 25.4 mm (1 in), and our listing agrees. The page and manual also differ on the maximum of the adjustable mounting depth, so we quote only the 42 mm minimum.

Which DS18 PRO-TW820 power figure is RMS?

Three numbers circulate for this tweeter. Our listing gives 100 W RMS (program), 200 W peak and 50 W AES. DS18's page heading says 100 Watts, which matches, but the browser title and the web address carry 200 W, and the key features list that figure as MAX Power. The manual labels the three numbers AES, Program and Peak and never uses the word RMS. So if you see 200 W attached to this tweeter, it is the peak or MAX rating and not an RMS rating.

Size an amplifier channel against the 100 W RMS (program) figure at most, and treat the peak number as a short-burst allowance. DS18's help page advises choosing an amplifier that can output the correct RMS rating for the speakers, and describes clipping as distortion from an overdriven amplifier. A small tweeter is exposed when a channel clips, and at 105 dB you will not need anything like 100 W to hear it, so leave headroom and set the gains carefully.

Crossover, bass blocker and level

The listed response starts at 700 Hz, yet DS18 recommends a 3 kHz high-pass. Read the first as the lowest frequency DS18 lists for the driver, and the second as DS18's advice on where to cross it over. In practice, start at 3 kHz or above and listen.

DS18 describes the 3.3 µF / 50 V bass blocker as added protection out of the box. A single capacitor is a gentle filter, so still set a proper high-pass on a DSP or amplifier channel. Our guides on why a DSP helps and setting one up explain how. Level is the other job: a 105 dB tweeter will usually play much louder than the door speaker beside it for the same power, so plan to turn it down with a spare amplifier channel or the DSP.

Mounting ring, gaskets and adjustable depth

This is where the PRO-TW820 differs most from the other PRO tweeters. The listing mentions an aluminium ring with pre-drilled holes and two rubber gaskets, one thin and one thick, for flush or raised mounting, and DS18 describes the mount as an adjustable surface mount. The mounting depth is listed as adjustable from 42 mm, so check how much room you have behind the panel.

DS18's overview claims you can strip and rebuild the tweeter in under 60 seconds with basic tools if you need to swap a diaphragm or ring. That is a manufacturer claim. The replacement diaphragm is listed as the PRO-TW820VC.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 PRO-TW820

We did not find independent owner reviews, forum threads or magazine tests for the PRO-TW820 that we could read when we checked in October 2026. What we could read is on DS18's own shop page. It is the maker's shop, so these reviews are not independent.

The page showed 12 reviews, with the rating bars putting 10 in one bar and 2 in another. The text we read had no star labels or average, so we are not quoting a score. Five entries were on show, but one appears twice, leaving four distinct reviews. One mentions a bike outright, and a model name and a fairing in two others suggest more bike builds, so these say little about a car.

The owners like the sound. One bought two to run from a five-channel GEN-X amplifier and calls them very loud, another found the sound clear and loud alongside an 8-inch mid-bass, and a third says they sound excellent. The one complaint is about size: a reviewer who liked the sound says the tweeter is too big to fit inside their fairing, though they had already cut a hole. Nobody describes a crossover setting or a long-term result, so none of this is a verdict for car use.

DS18 PRO-TW820 vs PRO-TWN4 and PRO-TWN6.4

The DS18 PRO-TWN4 (₹6,990 MRP) is a 3-inch tweeter rated 140 W RMS (program) with the same 105 dB and a 2 kHz recommended high-pass. The PRO-TW820 is smaller across the face, 58 mm against 75 mm, and has the higher MRP of the two. The PRO-TWN4 is a flush-mount design in a 52 mm cutout and does not list a ring or gaskets.

The DS18 PRO-TWN6.4 (₹9,990 MRP) is the bigger step up: 4 inches, 150 W RMS (program) and 109 dB, with an 82 mm cutout and a 3 kHz recommended high-pass like the PRO-TW820. DS18 does not list a bass blocker for it. If the opening is the limit, the PRO-TW820 has the smallest cutout of the three at 43 mm, although it needs at least 42 mm of depth against 28.7 mm for the PRO-TWN4.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the PRO-TW820 if you want a compact tweeter that sits on top of a pod or dash with a ring, you can filter it at 3 kHz or above, and you want the bass blocker's value stated rather than guessed.

Look elsewhere if you want a ready-made front stage with crossovers included; a component set such as the DS18 ZXI-62C comes with a passive crossover. DS18's overview describes the PRO-TW820 as engineered for pro audio set-ups and suggests it for an SPL system or pro build, and it does not mention cars, so treat fitment in your car as something to measure.

Installation notes for Indian cars

With the ring fitted, the footprint is 77 mm across, a fair bit larger than the 43 mm cutout, so size the pod for the ring and not the hole. The complaint about a fairing is a useful warning. Measure first, and test the aim with the music playing before you finish the trim.

Dash tops in Indian summers get hot and the tweeter's body is metal, so fix it with the ring and screws rather than tape alone. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and can build speaker pods and door baffles for it.

DS18 PRO-TW820 price and where to buy

The DS18 PRO-TW820 carries an MRP of ₹7,990 in our catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the PRO-TW820 product page. The listing is for a single tweeter, so order two for a left-and-right pair.

DS18 PRO-TW820 tweeter - another view

The bottom line

The DS18 PRO-TW820 is a small, high-sensitivity tweeter with a useful set of mounting hardware and a stated bass blocker. Treat 100 W RMS (program) as its power ceiling, ignore any headline that quotes 200 W as if it were RMS, and cross it at 3 kHz or higher. The feedback we could read comes only from DS18's own shop and is thin, and some of it appears to come from bike builds, so judge it on the specifications and your own set-up.

DS18 PRO-TW820 FAQ

Is the DS18 PRO-TW820 sold as a pair?

No. The listing is for a single tweeter, one piece, so a left-and-right setup needs two. Check the quantity before you order, and ask us if you are unsure.

What is the RMS rating of the DS18 PRO-TW820?

Our listing gives 100 W RMS (program), with 200 W peak and 50 W AES. The 200 W in DS18's page title and web address is the peak or MAX figure, so do not size an amplifier against it.

What crossover frequency should I use with the PRO-TW820?

DS18 recommends a 3 kHz high-pass. The response is listed from 700 Hz, but that does not mean the tweeter should be crossed that low. The bass blocker is added protection, so still set a high-pass on your amplifier or DSP.

What comes with the PRO-TW820?

Our listing mentions an aluminium mounting ring with pre-drilled holes, two rubber gaskets and a 3.3 µF / 50 V bass blocker. Check with us before you assume that anything else, such as screws or wiring, is in the box.
