Dynaudio Esotan 202 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons

Quick summary: the buying decision

The Esotan 202 is a 6.5-inch 2-way component speaker system, rated at 80 W RMS and 4 ohm. Separate tweeters can be mounted higher, on the dash or A-pillars, than a coaxial allows, which lifts the stereo image towards ear level; the trade-off is a more involved installation with crossovers to mount.

Dynaudio Esotan 202: what it is

The Dynaudio Esotan 202 is a 2-way component speaker system that pairs a 6.5-inch woofer with a 21 mm tweeter and a passive crossover network. It is rated at 80 W RMS into 4 ohm, and the Esotan MF101 midrange can be added for a 3-way set-up.

Esotan sits below Esotec and the flagship Esotar² in Dynaudio's car audio range. The Esotan 272 MKII and 372 MKII are the updated MKII component systems, and the Esotan 202 with its optional Esotan MF101 midrange are 2025 additions.

Fitment: will it fit your car?

Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. Spacers or adapter rings are often needed in many cars, and a solid, sealed baffle with door damping makes more difference to midbass than the speaker change alone. We do not yet have official mounting dimensions for the Esotan 202, so ask us to check fitment for your car before ordering.

Crossover, filtering and placement

A passive crossover network is included. Dynaudio designed the set to accept the Esotan MF101 midrange as an upgrade to a 3-way system.

Mount the tweeters on the dash or A-pillars and aim them across the car towards the opposite seat as a starting point, then adjust by listening. Keep the woofer in a sealed, damped door.

Amplification

At 80 W RMS into 4 ohm, the set suits an amplifier channel of around 80 to 100 W at 4 ohm, such as one channel of AudioControl's A600.4.
