Dynaudio Esotan MF101 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons

Quick summary: the buying decision

The Esotan MF101 is a 10 cm-class (3.5 in) midrange speaker, rated at 30 W RMS at 4 ohm, covering 120 Hz – 15 kHz. A dedicated midrange takes the vocal band away from the woofer and tweeter, which is what makes a 3-way system sound clearer and more focused when it is filtered and placed properly.

Dynaudio Esotan MF101: what it is

The Dynaudio Esotan MF101 is a 10 cm-class (3.5-inch) midrange speaker designed to add a dedicated midrange to the Esotan 202 and Esotan 212 component systems for a 3-way set-up. It is supplied without a grille.

Esotan sits below Esotec and the flagship Esotar² in Dynaudio's car audio range. The Esotan 272 MKII and 372 MKII are the updated MKII component systems, and the Esotan 202 with its optional Esotan MF101 midrange are 2025 additions.

Fitment: will it fit your car?

Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. Small drivers are usually mounted in the dash, A-pillars or custom pods; a rigid, sealed mounting keeps them clean at volume. We do not yet have official mounting dimensions for the Esotan MF101, so ask us to check fitment for your car before ordering.

Crossover, filtering and placement

It covers 120 Hz to 15 kHz and is designed for the Esotan 202 and Esotan 212 systems, turning them into a 3-way set.

Mount midranges high in the dash or A-pillars where possible, close to the tweeters, so the vocal range and treble arrive from the same area.

Amplification

At 30 W RMS into 4 ohm, it needs little power, but it must be filtered to the midrange band; in an active set-up a DSP amplifier such as AudioControl's D-6.1200 gives it its own channel and filter.
