JL Audio C6-275cm Review: A 2.75-Inch Midrange for Active Three-Way Builds

Updated: Oct 6

The JL Audio C6-275cm is a 2.75-inch (70 mm) midrange from JL's C6 series, sold as a single driver and rated at 50 W continuous into 4 Ω with a design bandwidth of 350 Hz to 4.8 kHz. It's the midrange JL uses in its C6-653 three-way set, offered on its own for builders who want to add a dedicated midrange to an active system or fit one into a small dash opening. The 2026 Indian MRP is ₹79,990 per driver, a serious sum for a small cone, so it pays to know exactly where it fits before buying. Current pricing is on our C6-275cm product page.

JL Audio C6-275cm 2.75-inch component midrange, sold singly

Quick summary

  • One midrange per box, with no crossover: it needs a DSP output and an amplifier channel of its own, or a crossover network you supply.

  • Its bandwidth depends heavily on the filter slope, from 350 Hz–4.8 kHz with 48 dB per octave filters to 450 Hz–3.3 kHz with 12 dB filters.

  • Modest power needs (25–80 W recommended) but low sensitivity, so the DSP has to level-match it to the other drivers.

  • We found no owner or professional reviews we could verify; the published figures are what there is to go on.

The figures come from JL's official C6-275cm manual and the 2026 Indian catalogue. The manual confirms the 48 dB bandwidth and the 64 mm cutout; the 24 and 12 dB bandwidths are the catalogue's, and the 36 mm depth comes from retailer listings, including ours, so we check it against your car.

Where a single 2.75-inch midrange fits

Few buyers need one of these in isolation, so it helps to be clear about the cases where it makes sense. The first is turning an active two-way into a three-way. If you already run something like the active version of the C6-650 from a DSP, a pair of C6-275cm midranges in the dash or pillars takes the vocal range away from the door woofers and the tweeters.

The second is fitment. A 2.75-inch frame suits small dash-top openings that a 3.5-inch driver can't use, and the box includes two OEM adapter rings to help it sit in factory locations. Whether they suit a particular Indian car is something we check case by case. The third is replacing a midrange in an existing C6-653 set, which uses this driver.

Running it: channels, power and crossover points

The C6-275cm comes without a crossover, so in an active system each midrange needs its own DSP output and amplifier channel. An active C6 three-way front stage takes six channels in total. JL's VX600/6i provides exactly that, six channels with an integrated DSP rated at 75 W each into 4 Ω, inside the midrange's 25–80 W recommended window. A more powerful amplifier can work too, but its gain must be set with the 50 W continuous rating in mind.

The bandwidth figures are the ones to study. With steep 48 dB per octave filters, JL allows 350 Hz to 4.8 kHz, but with gentle 12 dB slopes the window shrinks to 450 Hz–3.3 kHz. Steep slopes therefore matter: they let the midrange hand over to the C6 silk-dome tweeter, rated from 3 kHz, without a gap or a strained overlap. The low limit reflects the small cone, with a 185 Hz resonance and 1.5 mm of linear excursion, so midbass has to stay with the woofers.

Sensitivity is the other thing to plan for. At 83.5 dB (1 W / 1 m), the C6-275cm is less efficient than the C6 woofer and tweeter, so the DSP turns those drivers down to match it rather than the other way round. If you're new to this kind of tuning, our guides on why car audio needs DSP and setting up a DSP cover the groundwork.

What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio C6-275cm

Independent reviews of this exact driver are scarce. When we checked in October 2026, we found none we could verify: the retailer listings we looked at showed no reviews, and Crutchfield lists the driver without a review page we could find.

What can be verified is JL's own positioning, which should be read as promotional. The catalogue presents the C6 series as developed from the same design thinking as JL's flagship C7 speakers. The published figures in the table above are the solid part, and they describe a small, low-excursion midrange meant for a carefully filtered three-way.

If you've fitted a C6-275cm, on its own or as part of a C6-653, we'd value hearing how it has performed in your car.

C6-275cm vs the C7-350cm and the C6-653 set

The step up is JL's 3.5-inch C7-350cm at ₹1,24,990 each. It handles twice the power (100 W), is 3 dB more efficient at 86.5 dB (1 W / 1 m) and reaches up to 10 kHz rather than 4.8 kHz, which gives more freedom in placing the tweeter crossover. The C6-275cm costs ₹45,000 less per driver and its smaller frame fits places the C7 can't.

The more important comparison is with the complete C6-653. A pair of C6-275cm singles costs ₹1,59,980 at MRP; the C6-653 set, at ₹1,99,990, includes two of these midranges plus two woofers, two tweeters and passive crossovers with level adjustment. If you're starting from scratch, the set is far better value. For a simpler upgrade without a third way, JL's two-way sets, from the C3-650 down to the C2-650, avoid the extra channels altogether.

Who should buy it

It makes sense if you're adding a third way to an active C6 or similar two-way, you have two spare DSP and amplifier channels, and your car has dash or pillar positions that suit a 2.75-inch driver. It's also the part to order when a C6-653 midrange needs replacing.

Look elsewhere if you're building from nothing with passive crossovers, since the C6-653 adds woofers, tweeters and crossovers for ₹40,010 more than a pair of singles, or if you want independent reviews before spending ₹79,990 on one midrange, because we haven't found any.

Installation notes for Indian cars

The dash top is the hottest surface in a parked car, and in a Delhi summer it gets far hotter than the cabin air. Fit the supplied grille frame, use heat-resistant adhesives on any adapter, and seal the driver to its mounting so its rear output can't leak around the frame.

If your factory touchscreen stays, the DSP needs a clean signal from it. JL's FiX 86 accepts speaker-level inputs up to 30 V RMS and corrects the delays and summing of factory signals before they reach a DSP amplifier. We confirm the 64 mm cutout, depth and adapter-ring fit in your car before you order, and VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can install and tune the complete system.

Price and where to buy

The 2026 Indian catalogue lists the JL Audio C6-275cm at ₹79,990 per driver, so a pair costs ₹1,59,980 at MRP. Our price is often below MRP; see the current figure on our C6-275cm midrange page. We sell genuine JL Audio products, distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

The bottom line

The C6-275cm is a specialist part: a small, low-power midrange that mainly earns its place inside a DSP-tuned three-way with steep filters and careful level matching. In that role, or as a fit for small dash openings, it does a job a two-way can't. For anyone starting from scratch, though, the C6-653 set is the smarter purchase, and the lack of independent reviews means you're buying on JL's figures alone.

JL Audio C6-275cm FAQ

Is the JL Audio C6-275cm sold as a pair?

No. The ₹79,990 MRP is for a single midrange, so a left-and-right pair costs ₹1,59,980 at MRP. Each comes with a grille frame, two OEM adapter rings, screws and connectors.

Can the C6-275cm replace a factory dash speaker?

Not on its own. It plays from about 350 Hz to 4.8 kHz and has no crossover, so it needs a DSP or crossover network to filter it and a tweeter for the top end. The adapter rings may help it fit factory openings, which we check car by car.

What amplifier power does the C6-275cm need?

JL recommends 25–80 W per midrange against a 50 W continuous rating. DSP amplifiers rated at about 75 W per channel into 4 Ω, such as the VX600/6i, sit within that range.
