Morel Maximo 6 MKIII Review: The 92 dB Component Set Compared With the MKII

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel Maximo 6 MKIII is a 6.5-inch two-way component set, with a pair of woofers and separate tweeters, rated at 90 W RMS (180 W peak) with 92 dB sensitivity and a 60 Hz to 22 kHz response. Its India MRP is ₹12,490, which places it well below the Maximo Ultra component sets we sell, such as the Ultra 502 MKII at ₹24,990. It suits buyers who want a proper component layout on a modest budget, on head-unit power now and a small amplifier later. You can check today's offer on our Morel Maximo 6 MKIII product page.

Morel Maximo 6 MKIII 6.5-inch two-way component speaker set

Quick summary

  • On paper it matches the MKII: Morel's own MKII manual lists the same 90 W, 180 W peak, 92 dB and 60 Hz to 22 kHz.

  • Its 92 dB sensitivity is 3 dB higher than the Ultra 502 MKII's 89 dB, so it plays louder from the same head-unit output.

  • The impedance needs confirming: an Australian Morel retailer lists 4 ohms, while an Indian forum build calls its Maximo MK3 components 2-ohm.

  • We found no owner reviews of the MKIII yet. An Indian owner of the MKII praised its detailed, non-harsh tweeters on factory power.

Figures come from our store listing and the spec sheet of Frankie's Auto Electrics, an authorised Morel retailer in Australia. Morel's own product page wasn't reachable when we checked in October 2026, and neither source gives a mounting depth or cutout.

MKIII versus MKII: what the published figures show

The obvious question for anyone who knows the outgoing set is what changed. Going by the numbers, very little that you can see. Morel's installation manual for the Maximo 6 MKII rates that set at 90 W with 180 W maximum transient power, 92 dB at 2.83 V and 60 to 22,000 Hz. Those are exactly the figures our listing gives for the MKIII.

The MKII manual adds detail we couldn't find for the new set: a 4,000 Hz tweeter crossover point, 25 mm voice coils on woofer and tweeter, 63 mm woofer mounting depth, and a tweeter that flush-mounts in a 50 mm hole or surface-mounts. Don't assume any of those carry over until you have the MKIII box in hand. Matching ratings can hide changes elsewhere, and we haven't seen Morel's account of the update.

Head unit or amplifier, and that impedance question

At 92 dB, this is an easy set to drive. A head unit's built-in amplifier makes only a small fraction of the 90 W the set is rated to handle, so higher sensitivity is the figure that matters on factory power. It means more volume before the head unit runs out of clean output. A compact four-channel amplifier still makes sense: it supplies the headroom a head unit can't, and lets you high-pass the woofers so they aren't asked for deep bass.

Before choosing that amplifier, settle the impedance. Frankie's lists the MKIII at 4 ohms. A February 2025 Team-BHP build thread lists Morel Maximo MK3 components as 2-ohm, without stating their size. A 2-ohm speaker draws more power from the same head unit or amplifier, and the amplifier must be stable at that load. Read the impedance printed on the woofer's label before you buy an amplifier for it.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Maximo 6 MKIII

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or press reviews of the MKIII itself. The Australian retailer's page invites the first review, and the Team-BHP thread above is a build plan with no listening impressions of this set.

The closest real-world feedback covers the previous model. On TheAutomotiveIndia, an Indian owner reviewed the Maximo 6 MKII in January 2023. That review covers the MKII, not this set. The owner ran it from a factory Harman head unit with no aftermarket amplifier, in fully damped doors, with the tweeters at the far end of the A-pillars. They found the tweeters very detailed, accurate and not harsh, said vocals came through superbly, and called the set highly recommended. The one caveat was patience: it sounded flat at first and only settled in after a few weeks of use.

Identical spec sheets don't guarantee identical sound, so treat that as background on the Maximo family rather than a verdict on the MKIII. If you've fitted the new set, we'd like to hear how it sounds in your car.

How it compares with the Maximo Ultra sets and coaxials

Moving up in price within the Maximo family brings you to the Ultra range. The Maximo Ultra 502 MKII (₹24,990 MRP) uses a smaller 5.25-inch woofer and quotes a deeper 50 Hz response against the MKIII's 60 Hz, at the same 90 W RMS. It is also 3 dB less sensitive, so it relies more on an amplifier. Our review of the 6.5-inch Maximo Ultra 602 MKII covers the same-size Ultra set.

If you'd rather keep a factory-style single speaker, the Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII costs ₹500 more at MRP (₹12,990). It is rated 90 W RMS at 91 dB, with the tweeter mounted in the woofer and an integrated crossover. That makes it simpler to fit, though you lose the higher tweeter position that gives a component set its imaging. Owners of the outgoing model can compare notes in our Maximo 6 MKII review.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if you want a complete Morel component set at about half the Ultra 502 MKII's MRP, you'll run it from the head unit for now, and you value the higher sensitivity.

Look elsewhere if you want a deeper published response, or full technical detail such as crossover slopes and mounting depth before you buy. Owner feedback on the MKIII is also still missing. Retailer spec sheets for the Maximo Ultra sets give more of that detail, at a higher price.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Because the MKIII's mounting depth isn't published in the sources we could read, measure the clearance between the door's mounting face and the window glass at its lowest point before you order. Factory openings vary from car to car, and many installs need an adapter ring. VA3 Car Studio builds door baffles, which can space the woofer out where depth is tight and give it a firm mount. Damp the door skin while it's open. Our sound damping guide explains why a solid door matters for a 6.5-inch woofer.

Tweeters image best high up, on the A-pillar or sail panel, angled toward the cabin. We can make pods for them if your car has no factory tweeter location. Since grilles aren't included according to the Australian retailer, plan on reusing the factory grilles in the doors. Keep wiring clear of the window channel and fix everything firmly so it doesn't buzz on broken roads. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.

Morel Maximo 6 MKIII - another view

The bottom line

The Maximo 6 MKIII brings Morel's familiar Maximo numbers to a new set: 90 W RMS, 92 dB and 60 Hz to 22 kHz, the same as the MKII's. That sensitivity makes it a friendly choice for head-unit power, with room to grow on a small amplifier. Confirm the impedance before you buy an amplifier, measure your door depth, and treat feedback on the MKII as background until MKIII owners report back.

Morel Maximo 6 MKIII FAQ

Is the Morel Maximo 6 MKIII better than the MKII?

We can't say yet. The headline figures are identical: our listing gives the MKIII the same 90 W RMS, 180 W peak, 92 dB and 60 Hz to 22 kHz that Morel's manual gives the MKII. We found no reviews of the MKIII or comparisons of the two sets.

Can it run from a factory head unit?

Yes. Its 92 dB sensitivity gets good volume from modest power. A small four-channel amplifier lets it use more of its 90 W RMS rating cleanly, and lets you filter deep bass out of the doors.

What impedance is the Maximo 6 MKIII?

An Australian Morel retailer lists 4 ohms, but an Indian forum build describes Maximo MK3 components as 2-ohm, and our listing doesn't state it. Check the label on the woofer before matching an amplifier.
