Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII Review: The One-Piece Alternative to the 602 Set

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII is a 6.5-inch two-way coaxial speaker: a paper composite woofer with a soft dome tweeter at its centre and an integrated MXR crossover, rated at 90 W RMS (160 W peak) with 91 dB sensitivity and a 55 Hz to 20 kHz response. Its India MRP is ₹12,990. Don't confuse it with the component Maximo Ultra 602 MKII, which uses separate tweeters and its own passive crossovers; this is the one-piece version for people who want to swap 6.5-inch factory speakers without extra holes. It suits front-door upgrades on head-unit power, rear doors behind a component set, and four-speaker systems on a small amplifier. See today's price on our Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII product page.

Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII 6.5-inch two-way coaxial speakers

Quick summary

  • One speaker per side: tweeter and integrated MXR crossover in the woofer, grilles included.

  • At 91 dB it is 1.5 dB more sensitive than the Coax 502 MKII, so it gets more out of a head unit.

  • OnlineCarStereo lists a cutout of about 144 mm and a top-mount depth of about 60 mm.

  • No reviews of this coaxial yet. The component 602 MKII scored well with CAR&HIFI, and a Coax 402 MKII owner stresses adding an amplifier.

Coaxial or component: how it differs from the 602 MKII set

The names are close, but the two products work differently. Our review of the component Maximo Ultra 602 MKII covers a set with separate tweeters and passive crossover networks; CAR&HIFI lists 12 dB slopes for that crossover. The tweeters can go on the A-pillars or sail panels, lifting the sound to dashboard height.

The coaxial puts everything in one frame. The tweeter sits at the centre of the woofer and the crossover is integrated, so installation is one speaker into one hole per side. OnlineCarStereo's cutout of about 144 mm is close to the 144 mm CAR&HIFI lists for the component 602's woofer. Both will usually suit the same 6.5-inch door opening, and the real choice is tweeter height against simplicity. If you mainly listen from the driver's seat and want the best imaging, the component set is the better tool. If you want a tidy upgrade with factory-style looks, or speakers for the rear doors, the coaxial makes more sense.

Head unit or amplifier?

A 91 dB sensitivity is helpful on factory power. It is 1.5 dB above the Coax 502 MKII and 1 dB below the Maximo 6 MKIII, and it means the Coax 602 MKII gets reasonable volume from a head unit's modest output. Still, a head unit delivers only part of the 90 W RMS the speaker can handle, and it runs out of clean power early when the volume goes up.

A small four-channel amplifier is the upgrade that matters most. Use its high-pass filter around 80 Hz, so the woofer isn't asked for deep bass, and set the gains carefully. If you run a front component set, these coaxials can take the rear channels and fill the cabin without competing for attention.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or press reviews of the Coax 602 MKII itself. OnlineCarStereo's listing had none, and Morel's site was unreachable. What exists covers related models, so treat it as background.

The German magazine CAR&HIFI tested the component Maximo Ultra 602 MKII in issue 1/2026, not this coaxial. It found the set very balanced, with fairly deep and full bass and benign, almost distortion-free fabric tweeters, and gave it a grade of 1.3, its top class. The PDF is hosted by Audio System, Morel's German distributor. An Indian owner's Team-BHP write-up of the same component set in a VW Polo describes it as bright in a good way, with crisp vocals, while noting a soundstage short on width.

Closer in design, the 4-inch Maximo Ultra Coax 402 MKII on Crutchfield's Canadian store averages 4.0 out of 5, with one visible review. That owner calls it a significant improvement over the factory Bang and Olufsen speakers in a Ford Bronco, but says an amplifier upgrade is definitely needed for the full benefit. None of these sources reviews the Coax 602 MKII itself; if you've fitted a pair, please tell us how they sound.

Alternatives at a similar price

For ₹500 less at MRP, the Maximo 6 MKIII (₹12,490) gives you a full component set with separate tweeters. It is rated 90 W RMS at 92 dB, with a 60 Hz to 22 kHz response, if you're willing to mount tweeters. For 5.25-inch openings, the Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII costs the same ₹12,990 and is rated 80 W RMS at 89.5 dB.

If you want a coaxial rated for more power, the point-source Tempo Ultra Integra 602 MKII (₹25,990) is rated 120 W RMS at 90 dB, with a 50 Hz to 22 kHz response and external crossovers, at twice the price.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if your car takes 6.5-inch speakers and you want a straightforward replacement that works on head-unit power and improves with an amplifier, or you need rear speakers to match a Morel front stage.

Look elsewhere if imaging from the driver's seat is your priority; separate tweeters mounted high do that better. The Maximo 6 MKIII offers them at a similar MRP.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Check your car's factory opening and mounting first. Many cars hold the speaker in a plastic bracket, and some need an adapter ring for a round 6.5-inch frame. Measure the depth with the window fully down against OnlineCarStereo's figure of about 60 mm (64 mm bottom-mount). Where the factory bracket is weak or the depth is tight, VA3 Car Studio builds door baffles that give the speaker a solid mount.

Damp the outer door skin and seal large holes in the inner skin before the speaker goes in; our sound damping guide explains how. Fit the included grilles, keep the speaker's back clear of the window's water path, and fix the wiring so it can't rattle on broken roads. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.

The bottom line

The Coax 602 MKII is a simple, one-hole route into the Maximo Ultra range for 6.5-inch doors, with an integrated MXR crossover, grilles in the box and 91 dB sensitivity that suits head-unit power. It isn't the component 602 MKII and won't image like one, and it still awaits owner reviews of its own. As a factory-speaker replacement or rear fill, though, its specification makes good sense.

Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII FAQ

Is the Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII the same as the Maximo Ultra 602 MKII?

No. The Coax 602 MKII is a one-piece coaxial with the tweeter and an integrated MXR crossover in the woofer. The Maximo Ultra 602 MKII is a component set with separate tweeters and passive crossovers.

Can it run from a factory head unit?

Yes. Its 91 dB sensitivity gets reasonable volume from head-unit power. A small four-channel amplifier lets it use more of its 90 W RMS rating cleanly.

Does it fit the same opening as the component 602 MKII?

Usually, yes. OnlineCarStereo lists a cutout of about 144 mm for the coaxial, and CAR&HIFI lists 144 mm for the component set's woofer. Always check your car's mount and depth.
