Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII Review: A 5.25-Inch Component Set for Factory Locations
The Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII is a 5.25-inch two-way component set: two woofers, two soft dome tweeters and two separate crossovers, rated at 90 W RMS (160 W peak) with 89 dB sensitivity and a 50 Hz to 20 kHz response. Its India MRP is ₹24,990. Within the Maximo Ultra MKII sets we sell, it sits below the three-way Ultra 603 MKII, and it costs about twice the Maximo 6 MKIII. It suits cars with 5.25-inch speaker locations whose owners want separate tweeters and a proper crossover, ideally powered by an amplifier. See the current offer on our Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII product page.

Key points
A true component layout in the 5.25-inch size, with external crossovers and three tweeter mounting options listed by Crutchfield.
Crutchfield lists a gentle 6 dB per octave crossover at 3.5 kHz, a 56 mm top-mount depth and a 111 mm cutout.
At 89 dB it is less sensitive than the 92 dB Maximo 6 MKIII, so it rewards an amplifier more than head-unit power.
The one owner review we could read praises its midbass and clarity; the sibling 602 MKII scored well in a German magazine test.

What the crossover and tweeter options tell you
The crossover is the part of a component set most buyers never look at, and here it's worth a glance. Crutchfield lists Morel's MXR network for this set at 6 dB per octave with a 3.5 kHz crossover point. A first-order slope like that is the simplest filter there is: the woofer and tweeter overlap gently rather than handing over abruptly. That tends to blend smoothly, but it also leaves the tweeter receiving some energy below 3.5 kHz, which is one more reason not to run it flat out on a large amplifier.
Tweeter placement is flexible. Crutchfield lists an oval flush mount needing a cutout of about 49 mm and roughly 22 mm of depth, plus large and small surface mounts. That gives you options: flush in a factory dash or sail-panel location, or surface-mounted on an A-pillar where there's no hole to use.
Head unit or amplifier?
An 89 dB rating is respectable, but it is 3 dB below the Maximo 6 MKIII, which means roughly half the acoustic output for the same voltage. On a factory head unit the 502 will play, but a head unit supplies only a fraction of its 90 W RMS rating. A compact four-channel amplifier is the natural pairing. For reference, the German magazine CAR&HIFI suggests 20 to 50 W for the larger 602 MKII sibling. Set the gains with a test tone, and high-pass the woofers around 80 Hz so the small cones aren't chasing deep bass that belongs to a subwoofer.
If you want more control, the set can also be run actively by bypassing the passive crossovers and letting a DSP amplifier handle the filtering and time alignment. That's a bigger project, and our article on the need for DSP in car audio explains what a DSP adds. VA3 Car Studio does DSP tuning if you go that way.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII
When we checked in October 2026, owner feedback on this exact set was thin. On Crutchfield's Canadian store, the set shows an average of 5.0 out of 5 with one visible review, and we couldn't see a total count. That owner reports nice midbass and very clear highs, says it handles its rated RMS power without trouble, and rates it among the better-sounding component sets they've heard at the price. OnlineCarStereo's listing had no reviews.
The more detailed coverage concerns a sibling. The German magazine CAR&HIFI tested the 6.5-inch Maximo Ultra 602 MKII in issue 1/2026. That test covers the 602, not the 502. The magazine found it very balanced with fairly deep, full bass, and noted its fabric tweeters behaved benignly and almost free of distortion. It gave the set an overall grade of 1.3, its top class, with very good value. The PDF is hosted by Audio System, Morel's German distributor.
An Indian owner's Team-BHP write-up of the same 602 MKII in a VW Polo also covers that sibling. It describes the sound as bright in a good way, with very crisp vocals and highs that are sharp but not harsh. The owner's reservations were a soundstage short on width and very slightly recessed upper mids.
Maximo Ultra 502 MKII vs its siblings
If your car takes 5.25-inch speakers and you'd rather not fit separate tweeters, the Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII is the same size at ₹12,990 MRP. It handles less power (80 W RMS against 90 W), is fractionally more sensitive at 89.5 dB, quotes 55 Hz to 20 kHz, and puts the tweeter and an integrated MXR crossover in one unit. The component set's advantage is tweeter placement, which lifts the sound up toward the dashboard.
The Maximo 6 MKIII costs half as much at ₹12,490 and is more sensitive at 92 dB, but it needs a 6.5-inch opening and quotes a higher 60 Hz bottom end. For 6.5-inch doors, our reviews of the Maximo Ultra 602 MKII and the three-way Maximo Ultra 603 MKII (₹41,990) cover the larger Ultra options.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if your car has 5.25-inch locations, you want separate tweeters you can place high, and you'll add an amplifier. The flexible tweeter mounting and published fitment figures make planning straightforward.
Look elsewhere if your doors take 6.5-inch speakers, where a larger woofer usually makes better use of the space, or if you plan to stay on head-unit power. The more sensitive Maximo 6 MKIII suits that better.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Check your car's speaker size before anything else; factory openings differ between models and between front and rear doors. Measure the depth behind the mounting face with the window fully down against the 56 mm Crutchfield lists. If it's tight, or the factory mount is a moulded plastic bracket, VA3 Car Studio builds door baffles that give the woofer a solid seat. Damp the door skin while the trim is off; our damping guide shows how.
Mount the crossovers somewhere dry, such as behind the kick panel or under the dash, rather than inside the wet part of the door. Tweeters work best high and angled toward the cabin; if there's no factory location, we can make A-pillar pods. Fix wiring and crossovers firmly so they don't rattle over speed breakers. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.
Price and where to buy
The Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII carries an MRP of ₹24,990. We often sell below MRP, so check the current price on the Maximo Ultra 502 MKII store listing. Every set we sell is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line
The 502 MKII puts treated paper composite woofers, textile tweeters and external MXR crossovers into the 5.25-inch size. The one owner review we found is positive, and its 602 sibling earned strong marks in print. Give it an amplifier and place the tweeters high, and it is a sensible way to build a proper front stage around small doors.
Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII FAQ
Does the Morel Maximo Ultra 502 MKII need an amplifier?
It will play from a head unit, but at 89 dB sensitivity and 90 W RMS it is happier on a small amplifier. That also lets you high-pass the woofers so they aren't asked for deep bass.
Will a 5.25-inch set fit doors made for 6.5-inch speakers?
It can be mounted on a baffle or adapter, but a 6.5-inch woofer usually makes better use of a 6.5-inch opening. Measure your opening and depth before choosing.
What tweeter mounting options does it have?
Crutchfield lists an oval flush mount needing a cutout of about 49 mm, plus large and small surface mounts, so the tweeters can go in a factory location or on an A-pillar.
