Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII Review: The 5.25-Inch Coaxial, Front or Rear

Oct 7
5 min read

The Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII is a 5.25-inch two-way coaxial speaker, with a soft dome tweeter and an integrated MXR crossover built into a paper composite woofer. It is rated at 80 W RMS (140 W peak) with 89.5 dB sensitivity and a 55 Hz to 20 kHz response. Its India MRP is ₹12,990, about half the price of the Ultra 502 MKII component set in the same size. It suits owners who want a straightforward upgrade for 5.25-inch factory locations, front or rear, without separate tweeters to mount. Check today's offer on our Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII product page.

Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII 5.25-inch two-way coaxial speakers

In brief

  • One-piece 5.25-inch coaxial: tweeter and integrated MXR crossover in the woofer, with grilles included.

  • OnlineCarStereo lists a top-mount depth of about 52 mm and a cutout of about 113 mm.

  • Same ₹12,990 MRP as the 6.5-inch Coax 602 MKII, so choose by the size your car takes, not by price.

  • No reviews of this coaxial yet; an owner of the smaller Coax 402 MKII found it a big step over factory speakers, but says it needs an amplifier to show its full benefit.

Where a 5.25-inch coaxial makes sense

A coaxial puts the tweeter in the middle of the woofer, so one speaker replaces one factory speaker with no extra holes and no separate crossover box to hide. That makes it the natural choice for rear doors, where a component set's separate tweeters bring little benefit, and for front doors when the factory location is 5.25 inches and you'd rather not modify the trim.

The trade-off is height. With the tweeter in the door, high frequencies come from near your knees, and the soundstage sits lower than with a tweeter on the A-pillar. That's an acceptable trade for rear fill or a simpler front upgrade. A sensible plan is a component set up front, such as the Maximo Ultra 502 MKII, with these coaxials in the rear doors at a much lower cost.

Head unit or amplifier?

At 89.5 dB, the Coax 502 MKII is moderately sensitive. It will run from a factory or aftermarket head unit, but a head unit's built-in amplifier gives only a fraction of the 80 W RMS it is rated to handle. The one owner comment we found, on its smaller sibling, makes the same point (see below): a clear improvement over stock, with an amplifier needed for the full benefit.

If you add a four-channel amplifier, these can run on the rear channels behind a component set, or as a complete four-speaker system. Use the amplifier's high-pass filter, around 80 Hz, so the 5.25-inch cones aren't asked to make deep bass. That keeps them clean at volume and leaves the low end to a subwoofer.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII

When we checked in October 2026, we couldn't find owner or press reviews of the Coax 502 MKII itself. OnlineCarStereo's listing showed no reviews, and Morel's site was unreachable.

The nearest feedback covers related models. On Crutchfield's Canadian store, the smaller 4-inch Maximo Ultra Coax 402 MKII averages 4.0 out of 5, with one review visible. That review covers the 402, not this speaker. The owner called it a great upgrade over the factory Bang and Olufsen speakers in a Ford Bronco and a significant improvement over stock. They added that an amplifier upgrade is definitely needed to get the full benefit. Crutchfield's listing for the 402 also describes a built-in MXR crossover, as our listing does for the 502.

The component Maximo Ultra 502 MKII has one visible review on the same store, again a different product, praising nice midbass and very clear highs. If you've fitted the Coax 502 MKII, we'd like to hear how it sounds.

Coax 502 MKII vs the alternatives

The Maximo Ultra Coax 602 MKII carries the same ₹12,990 MRP in the 6.5-inch size. It is rated higher, at 90 W RMS and 91 dB, with the same 55 Hz to 20 kHz response. If your doors take 6.5-inch speakers, that is the one to look at; the 502 is for 5.25-inch openings.

Within the 5.25-inch size, the component Ultra 502 MKII costs ₹24,990. It is rated 90 W RMS with a 50 Hz response figure, and gives you separate tweeters with external crossovers, at nearly twice the price. For larger oval openings, our review of the 6x9-inch Maximo Ultra Coax 692 MKII covers that option.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if your car has 5.25-inch speaker locations, you want a clean one-for-one replacement, or you need matching rear speakers behind a Morel component set.

Look elsewhere if you want the best possible front soundstage. A component set with high-mounted tweeters does that better. Also look elsewhere if your doors take 6.5-inch speakers, where the Coax 602 MKII costs the same.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Factory speakers in many cars sit on plastic brackets or odd-shaped mounts, so check your car's opening size first and plan for an adapter ring if needed. Against OnlineCarStereo's 52 mm top-mount depth, measure the space behind the mount with the window wound fully down. VA3 Car Studio builds door baffles where the factory mount is flimsy or the depth is short.

A coaxial benefits from door damping just as much as a component woofer does, since a rattling door panel blurs midbass. Our sound damping guide explains the basics. Keep the speaker's back away from the window channel's water path, use the included grilles, and secure the wiring against rattles on rough roads. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.

The bottom line

The Coax 502 MKII is a simple way to replace 5.25-inch factory speakers, front or rear, with an integrated MXR crossover, grilles in the box and moderate sensitivity. Reviews of this exact speaker are still missing, and the sibling feedback we found suggests a clear step over stock speakers, with an amplifier needed to get the most from it.

Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII FAQ

Does the Morel Maximo Ultra Coax 502 MKII need an amplifier?

No, it will run from a head unit, but an amplifier lets it use more of its 80 W RMS rating. A Crutchfield owner of the smaller Coax 402 MKII said an amplifier was needed to get the full benefit.

Is it the same as the Coax 602 MKII in a smaller size?

They share a coaxial layout with an integrated MXR crossover and the same ₹12,990 MRP. The 6.5-inch Coax 602 MKII is rated higher, at 90 W RMS and 91 dB, against 80 W RMS and 89.5 dB here.

Can I use it in the rear doors with a component set in front?

Yes. A coaxial suits rear fill because separate tweeters add little there. Pair it with a front component set and give each its own amplifier channels.
