Morel PSL8AE Review: An 8-Inch Powered Sub Box for Factory Head Units
The Morel PSL8AE is an active (powered) subwoofer enclosure from Morel's Primo SL AE line: an 8-inch (200 mm) driver and a built-in 350 W RMS amplifier in a carpeted box 165 mm high, 326 mm wide and 420 mm long. Its Indian MRP is ₹44,990, ₹5,000 below the 10-inch PSL10AE, which makes it the cheaper of the two Morel active enclosures we list. It suits owners who want to add bass to a factory system without building a box or fitting a separate amplifier. See today's offer on our Morel PSL8AE product page.

Key takeaways
Everything in one box: an 8-inch driver, a 350 W RMS amplifier, a carpeted enclosure and removable feet.
High-level inputs and tri-mode turn-on make it practical with a factory head unit, including touchscreen units.
A remote level controller is included, with onboard gain, a 50 to 200 Hz low-pass and 0 to 6 dB of bass boost at 45 Hz.
Morel's datasheet gives a 10 to 16 V operating range, and we found no owner reviews of this 2026 model yet.

Figures come from Morel's Primo SL AE datasheet, read through UK retailer Celsus ICE because Morel's website returned an error each time we tried it in October 2026. They match our store listing except for the operating voltage, which our listing gives as 10 to 17 V; we follow Morel's 10 to 16 V.
Connecting it to a factory head unit
This is where an active enclosure earns its place. The high-level input accepts 0.2 to 9 V, so it can take a feed from the factory speaker wiring, and the low-level RCA input covers aftermarket head units and processors. Morel's tri-mode turn-on lets you connect a remote lead or rely on signal sensing or DC-offset detection, so a factory unit without a remote output can still switch the sub on and off.
Once it's connected, set the low-pass to blend with the door speakers, start with the bass boost at zero, and set the gain to the factory unit's typical listening level. Morel's datasheet doesn't list a phase control, so if the bass sounds thin from the driver's seat, try moving the box or changing its orientation. If you later add a DSP, VA3 Car Studio offers DSP tuning to integrate the sub properly.
Controls, remote and placement
The onboard controls are gain, bass boost and a variable crossover, and the included remote level controller adjusts the bass level from the driver's seat. That is useful in India, where the same car might carry a quiet highway cruise one day and a full load of passengers the next.
Morel says the enclosure is designed to work firing down, firing up or standing vertically, with removable feet fitted with Velcro pads, and its power and audio terminals disconnect easily so the box can come out when you need the boot. At 165 mm tall, measure under seats or along the boot wall before you buy; we make no promises of fit for any particular car.
Power and wiring
The amplifier is specified for 10 to 16 V, which covers a healthy car electrical system at idle and while charging. The copy of the datasheet we read doesn't print a fuse rating, current draw or cable gauge, so follow the manual supplied with the unit for the power cable and an in-line fuse near the battery.
Run the power cable away from factory wiring, use a clean chassis ground, and grommet the cable where it passes through metal to keep out dust and water. Don't bury the enclosure under luggage in a hot boot.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel PSL8AE
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews or press tests of the PSL8AE. Morel announced the Primo SL AE in March 2026, and the coverage we found was a reproduced launch release on EMMA, which is promotional. It presents the AE line for cars where conventional subwoofers won't fit and for use with factory or aftermarket systems. The Celsus ICE listing in the UK had no customer reviews.
There's no owner consensus to report yet. If you've installed a PSL8AE, we'd like to hear how it works with your head unit.
Morel PSL8AE vs PSL10AE and a separate sub and amplifier
The Morel PSL10AE (₹49,990 MRP) has the same 350 W RMS rating, controls and inputs with a 10-inch driver. Morel lists its response as 20 Hz to 300 Hz, and its box is larger at 165 x 338 x 460 mm. Choose the 10-inch if the extra footprint fits.
Building a system from parts is the other route. The passive Morel PSL 84 (₹19,990 MRP) plus Morel's MPD 5.550 five-channel amplifier (₹32,990 MRP) comes to ₹52,980 at MRP before the box. That amplifier also drives four speakers at 75 W each, so the parts route makes sense if you're upgrading the door speakers too.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the PSL8AE if you want to add bass to a factory or simple aftermarket system with one box and few wires, you value the included remote, and you'd like to be able to remove the sub quickly.
Look elsewhere if you want the deepest, loudest bass a big passive sub and amplifier can give, you're planning a full amplified system, or you want owner feedback before buying.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Secure the enclosure even though it's designed for easy removal: use the Velcro feet on carpet and add a strap if it sits where it can slide under braking or over speed breakers. Keep the high-level input wires tidy behind trim panels, and test the turn-on mode before closing everything up. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The Morel PSL8AE has an Indian MRP of ₹44,990. Check current pricing and stock on the PSL8AE listing in our store. Every unit we sell is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line
The Morel PSL8AE is built around convenience: an 8-inch driver, a 350 W amplifier, factory-friendly inputs and turn-on, and a remote, all in a 165 mm-tall box. There's no owner track record yet, so judge it on Morel's published features. For a factory head unit that needs more bass with minimal installation, it's a tidy solution.
Morel PSL8AE FAQ
Can the Morel PSL8AE work with a factory head unit?
Yes. Its high-level input accepts 0.2 to 9 V from the factory speaker wiring, and its tri-mode turn-on can use a remote lead, signal sensing or DC offset, so a head unit without a remote output can still switch it on.
Does the PSL8AE come with a remote bass control?
Yes. Morel's datasheet says a remote level controller is included, so you can adjust the bass level from the driver's seat. The enclosure also has onboard gain, bass boost and crossover controls.
How big is the PSL8AE?
Morel lists it at 165 mm high, 326 mm wide and 420 mm long (6.5 x 12.8 x 16.5 inches). It can fire down, fire up or stand vertically, so measure the space in each orientation before buying.
