Morel PSL 84 Review: An 8-Inch Shallow Sub for 79 mm of Space
The Morel PSL 84 is the 8-inch, 4-ohm model in Morel's Primo SL range of shallow-mount subwoofers, needing just 3.125 inches (79.4 mm) of mounting depth. Our listing rates it at 300 W RMS and 600 W peak, with 82 dB sensitivity and a 20 Hz to 1 kHz response. At an MRP of ₹19,990 it is the least expensive shallow-mount Morel sub we list, well below the Ultimo PowerSlim models. It suits small, carefully hidden installs: under a boot floor, behind a seat, or anywhere a conventional sub won't go. See today's offer on our Morel PSL 84 product page.

Key takeaways
An 8-inch sub that needs only 79.4 mm of depth, with a carbon-weave cone, a 2-inch voice coil and a rear-vented motor.
Power ratings differ: our listing says 300 W RMS, a UK retailer says 250 W RMS, so size the amplifier with care.
We found no published box volume, so take it from Morel's manual and have the box built to it.
It's a 2026 model and we found no owner reviews yet.

Ratings, sensitivity, response and terminals come from our store listing. The depth, voice coil, motor and chassis details come from Morel's launch release as reproduced by EMMA, and the 250 W figure from UK retailer Thomas Performance. Morel's website returned an error each time we tried it in October 2026, so we couldn't settle the power rating with Morel directly.
What Morel built into a 79 mm-deep 8-inch
Morel's March 2026 launch release describes the Primo SL as a sub for accurate, musically engaging bass in cars short of space. The parts list is straightforward: a carbon-weave composite cone, a heavy-gauge stamped steel Uniflow chassis, a large 2-inch voice coil and a rear-vented motor. The release also says the range is optimised for both sealed and ported boxes. That is promotional material, but the depth figure is the useful part: 79.4 mm lets the driver sit in a box only a little deeper than that.
The two power figures matter for amplifier choice. Until Morel confirms which is right, plan around the lower 250 W RMS and treat anything above it as headroom you shouldn't use.
Box and placement
We found no recommended enclosure volume for the PSL 84 in any source we could read: not on our listing, the UK listing or the launch release. Check the manual supplied with the sub before a box is built. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures, so we can build to Morel's volume once it's confirmed and shape the box to the space.
An 8-inch in a shallow box suits spots that bigger subs can't use: a false boot floor in a hatchback, a slim box behind the second row of an MUV, or the gap behind a pickup's seats. It won't match a large 12-inch for output, but it keeps the boot usable.
Amplifier pairing for a 4-ohm 8-inch
A single 4-ohm sub presents 4 ohms, so read an amplifier's 4-ohm rating. Morel's MPD 5.550 is a neat match: its subwoofer channel makes 250 W RMS into 4 ohms, alongside four 75 W channels for the door speakers, and Morel lists speaker-level inputs and DC-offset turn-on, which helps with factory head units. The JL Audio JD500/1 is rated at 250 W into 4 ohms at 14.4 V, falling to 225 W at 12.5 V.
Morel's MPD 1.500 and MPS 1.550 are listed at 350 W into 4 ohms, more than either PSL 84 rating, so keep their gain well down. They make more sense for two PSL 84s wired in parallel at 2 ohms, where 550 W works out at about 275 W per sub. Set gains with a test tone, never by ear.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel PSL 84
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews or press tests of the PSL 84. That isn't surprising: Morel announced the Primo SL in March 2026. The Thomas Performance listing had no customer reviews, and the only other coverage we found was the reproduced launch release, which is promotional.
So there's no owner consensus yet, and we won't invent one. If you've fitted a PSL 84, we'd like to hear how it has worked in your car.
Morel PSL 84 vs PSL 104, PSL8AE and Kinetic KS804
The Morel PSL 104 (₹22,990 MRP) is the 10-inch Primo SL. It needs 3.5 inches (89 mm) of depth, lists 83 dB, and is rated at 350 W RMS on our listing or 300 W in the UK. Morel's text says it gives more bass extension and headroom than the 8-inch, for ₹3,000 more.
If you'd rather not fit a separate amplifier, the Morel PSL8AE (₹44,990 MRP) puts an 8-inch driver in a slim, ready-made enclosure with a built-in 350 W amplifier. For a conventional-depth 8-inch, see our Morel Kinetic KS804 review.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the PSL 84 if you want a discreet Morel sub for tight spaces, you already have or plan an amplifier channel of about 250 W into 4 ohms, and you're happy to have a box built to Morel's volume.
Look elsewhere if you want deep, loud bass from a big box (a larger sub suits you better), you'd rather avoid separate amplifiers (the PSL8AE), or you want owner feedback before buying.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Even a shallow box has to be fixed properly, so screw it to a false floor or bracket it to the body so it can't move over broken roads. If it sits under a floor panel, leave the cone room to move and keep the box clear of the spare wheel and jack.
Keep the amplifier ventilated in a hot boot, fuse its power cable near the battery, and grommet the cable where it passes through metal. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, and DSP tuning if you're building a full system around it.
Price and where to buy
The Morel PSL 84 has an Indian MRP of ₹19,990. Check current pricing and stock on the PSL 84 listing in our store. Every unit we sell is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line
The Morel PSL 84 is a small, shallow and comparatively inexpensive way to add Morel bass where space is scarce. Its 79.4 mm depth is the headline; the open questions are the true power rating and the box volume, which you should confirm from the manual. Paired with a 250 W channel such as the MPD 5.550's, it's a sensible start for a hidden system.
Morel PSL 84 FAQ
How deep is the Morel PSL 84?
Morel's launch release gives a mounting depth of 3.125 inches, or 79.4 mm, for the 8-inch Primo SL. That is shallow enough for many false-floor and behind-seat installs that a conventional 8-inch sub couldn't use.
How much power does the PSL 84 handle?
Our listing rates it at 300 W RMS and 600 W peak, while a UK retailer lists 250 W RMS. Until Morel confirms the figure, choose an amplifier channel of about 250 W into 4 ohms.
What box size does the PSL 84 need?
We found no published enclosure volume. Morel says the Primo SL works in sealed and ported boxes, so take the volume from the manual supplied with the sub and have the box built to it.
