Morel Supremo Piccolo Review: Morel's 28 mm Supremo Tweeter Explained

Oct 7
5 min read

The Morel Supremo Piccolo is Morel's 28 mm tweeter from its Supremo range, sold as a pair: a hand-coated Acuflex silk dome driven by a double neodymium magnet, rated at 220 W RMS with a published response of 1.4 kHz to 25 kHz. Its India MRP is ₹1,49,990 for the pair. It is the genuine Morel part, not the MeloDavid tweeters sold online under the Morel Piccolo name, which we reviewed separately. It suits owners of a high-end front stage who want to upgrade the treble, and builders of custom active systems. See it on our Supremo Piccolo product page.

We could not reach Morel's own page, so these figures come from our listing and two dealer listings: Celsus ICE in the UK and OnlineCarStereo in the US. Both sell it as the Supremo Piccolo Lotus (OnlineCarStereo's box list includes Lotus-style grilles), and both give 93 dB where our listing shows 91 dB.

What the Supremo Piccolo is

The Piccolo is a 28 mm soft dome. The dome is hand-coated with Acuflex, Morel's name for its dome treatment, and it uses a double neodymium magnet in a compact body. Crutchfield describes it as hand-crafted and the same tweeter used in Morel's Supremo component systems.

The product copy on the Celsus page says some consider it the best tweeter in car audio, and highlights its low resonance and flat response. That is marketing, not a test result. The published numbers are more useful: a 900 Hz resonance, a response from 1.4 kHz and a 220 W RMS rating.

Crossover and amplifier planning

A tweeter must never see full-range signal, and OnlineCarStereo's box list (two tweeters with leads attached, grilles, screws, speed clips and connectors) includes no crossover, so ask us what comes with ours. The dealer pages we read give no recommended crossover point either.

With a DSP, set the high-pass comfortably above the 900 Hz resonance and the 1.4 kHz bottom of the published range, then tune in the car. With a passive network, remember the Piccolo is a 6 Ω tweeter: a crossover designed around a 4 Ω tweeter will not land where its label says. Running it actively on its own amplifier channel avoids that problem, and DSP tuning is one of the services we offer. Our article on why DSP matters in car audio explains the wider case.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Supremo Piccolo

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews or magazine tests we could read. OnlineCarStereo's page showed no customer reviews, the Celsus ICE page had none, and on Crutchfield's product page only the header text loaded for us, so we could not see any reviews there.

We won't fill that gap with guesswork. If you have run the Supremo Piccolo in your car, we'd value your feedback.

Supremo Piccolo, MeloDavid Piccolo and other Morel tweeters

The name causes confusion. Tweeters sold online as the MeloDavid Morel Piccolo are not Morel products; our MeloDavid Morel Piccolo review explains that they come from a separate Chinese brand. The Supremo Piccolo we sell is the genuine Morel product.

Within Morel's own range, the MT450 tweeter supplied with the Elate Carbon 62 and Elate Carbon 63 sets is close on paper: Morel's guide gives it the same 220 W RMS, 1,000 W peak, 1,400 Hz to 25 kHz range, 6 Ω impedance and 67 mm, 32 mm and 55 mm dimensions, with 91 dB sensitivity. Published data doesn't say how the two differ in construction. At the other end, the Maximo Ultra MKII tweeter (₹5,990) is a 1-inch dome rated at 90 W RMS, 90.5 dB and 1.8 kHz to 20 kHz. The Piccolo handles more power and covers a wider range on paper, at about 25 times the MRP.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Supremo Piccolo if you already have high-end woofers and midranges, ideally with a DSP, and want Morel's Supremo tweeter on top. It is also a natural choice for custom active builds that need a compact, high-power dome.

Look elsewhere if you are upgrading factory speakers on head-unit power, or have no plan for a crossover. A complete component set brings a matched crossover.

Installation notes for Indian cars

With a 55 mm cutout and 32 mm of depth, the Piccolo suits A-pillar, sail-panel and dash-corner mounting. VA3 Car Studio builds custom speaker pods for tweeters, so the dome can be aimed across the cabin rather than at the windscreen. Check for curtain airbags before cutting into pillar trims.

A-pillars and dash tops take the full force of the summer sun, so route and secure wiring away from heat, and fix the tweeters firmly so they don't rattle on broken roads. We offer professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.

Price and where to buy

The Morel Supremo Piccolo has an MRP of ₹1,49,990 for a pair. We often sell below MRP, so check today's price on the Supremo Piccolo listing. It is a genuine Morel product.

The bottom line

The Supremo Piccolo is a compact, high-power 28 mm silk dome with Morel's hand-coated Acuflex treatment, and a separate product from the MeloDavid tweeters that borrow its name. It is a component for people who already have a serious front stage and a crossover plan. We found no independent reviews to report, so judge it on Morel's published figures and how well it is integrated.

Morel Supremo Piccolo FAQ

Is the Morel Supremo Piccolo the same as the MeloDavid Morel Piccolo tweeter?

No. The Supremo Piccolo is Morel's own 28 mm Supremo tweeter. The MeloDavid tweeters sold online under the Morel Piccolo name come from a separate Chinese brand, as our MeloDavid review explains.

Does the Supremo Piccolo need a crossover?

Yes. A tweeter must be high-passed, and one US dealer lists no crossover in the box. Plan on a passive network suited to its 6 Ω impedance, or a DSP high-pass set comfortably above its 900 Hz resonance.

How much space does the Supremo Piccolo need?

Dealers list a 32 mm mounting depth, a 55 mm cutout and a 67 mm overall diameter. That is small enough for A-pillar, sail-panel or dash pods, where the tweeter can be aimed across the cabin.
