Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 Review: Fog Lamps Listed at 130 W and 7500 lm, and the 500 m Claim

6 min read

The Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 is a pair of 3-inch Bi-LED projector fog lamps with a flat cut-off, rated at 130 W per set and listed at 7500 lm in our store, with 6000K white light, IP68 protection and a 9 to 32 V supply range. Those are the highest listed wattage and lumen figures among the six Onkyo fog lamp sets in our store, and it is the only one of the six whose listing gives an irradiation distance, more than 500 m. The India MRP is ₹16,990. It suits a buyer who wants the highest-wattage 3-inch set we list and is ready to wire it properly, aim it carefully and leave it room to shed heat. See the X-FLAF9+2 product page in our store.

Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 3-inch Bi-LED projector fog lamps, 6000K

Quick summary

  • The listing gives 130 W per set, 45 W per lamp on low beam and 65 W on high, with 7500 lm and 6000K light.

  • Among our six Onkyo fog lamp listings, only this one gives an irradiation distance, more than 500 m, and it gives no test conditions. Onkyo's page does not carry the figure.

  • The ₹16,990 MRP is ₹1,000 above the X-FLAF9+1 and ₹2,000 above the X-FLAF9.

Wattage, lens size, voltage, protection rating, colour temperature, body material, lifespan and working temperature match Onkyo's X-FLAF9+2 page. The Bi-LED description, flat cut-off, lumen figure, per-lamp wattages and irradiation distance appear in our listing but not on Onkyo's page.

What the 500 m figure does and does not tell you

The listing says the irradiation distance is more than 500 m. It does not say how that was measured: the mounting height, the brightness at the far end, or the weather. Treat it as a headline number. A fog lamp's low, wide pattern is meant to light the road just ahead of the car. One Team-BHP member who runs another maker's tri-colour projector pair said it lights the area close to the car well but, because it sits low on the bumper, does not reach as far as the headlamps.

Higher output makes careful aiming more important, not less. Neither the listing nor Onkyo's page gives a beam angle or a lux figure. Our listing does not say whether 7500 lm is per lamp or per pair, or for low or high beam, and a lumen figure says nothing about how the light is spread.

Power, wiring and heat

At 65 W per lamp on high beam the pair draws 130 W, about 11 A from a 12 V supply; on low beam, at 45 W each, it draws 90 W, about 8 A. That is our arithmetic and not a published current rating. The listing gives no fuse, relay, switch or harness details and does not say how the lamp changes between low and high beam. This is the highest-wattage Onkyo fog lamp set we list, so use a fuse, relay and cable sized to the lamps, and do not assume the stock fog lamp circuit can carry the load.

More watts also mean more heat to shed. The listing does not describe the cooling design, and a closed bumper cavity has little airflow in an Indian summer, so leave air space around the body and keep wiring clear of it. IP68 covers the lamp as listed, not the joints you make, so seal every connector.

What owners and reviewers say about the Onkyo X-FLAF9+2

We found no owner reviews or independent tests of the Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 when we checked in October 2026. Our listing has no customer reviews, and Onkyo's page is a specification list, which is promotional. Searches by model number found nothing relevant. Amazon, Flipkart and YouTube could not be searched with our tools, so reviews may exist there.

What exists is feedback on aiming other makers' projector fog lamps. In June to August 2026 posts on Team-BHP's auto lighting thread, one owner was unhappy with the alignment after a workshop fitted a tri-colour pair. One member thought a projector might be mounted upside down, adding that a correctly set low-beam projector shows a very flat cut-off line. Another, looking at the owner's photos, said that if they showed low beam, a lot of light was landing on trees well above headlight height, and advised that on low beam headlamps and fog lamps should stay parallel to the road or angle very slightly down, to avoid glare for oncoming traffic. These posts are not about Onkyo's lamps. If you own an X-FLAF9+2, tell us how it has gone.

X-FLAF9+2 against the X-FLAF9+1 and X-FLAF9

The X-FLAF9+1 costs ₹15,990 and lists 120 W, 7000 lm and 60 W high beam per lamp. The X-FLAF9 costs ₹14,990 and lists 110 W, 6000 lm and 55 W. All three list the same 45 W low beam, a 3-inch lens, 6000K, IP68 and 9 to 32 V, so the power difference shows up at high beam. The +2 is also the only one of the three whose listing gives an irradiation distance. If you want a 2-inch lens, the X-FLAF21 lists 100 W and 5000 lm at ₹15,990.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the X-FLAF9+2 if you want the highest listed wattage and lumen figure among our Onkyo fog lamp sets, you will fit a fused relay circuit, and you accept that the 500 m figure comes without test conditions.

Look elsewhere if you want the lowest MRP among the 3-inch sets (the X-FLAF9), a warmer colour option (the X-FLAF9X), or a lamp that asks less of your wiring and bumper cavity. Do not order until you can confirm fitment, because our listing currently says all sales are final.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Measure the opening, the depth behind it and the room for connectors. The listing gives the 3-inch lens size and nothing else about dimensions, and mentions no brackets or harness, so ask us to check fitment. Mud, dust and stone chips hit low-mounted lamps, so keep the lens clean and check the mount after rough stretches.

Aim the lamps low, check the pattern against a wall at night, and aim them again after a few weeks. At this output a misaimed pair is hard on oncoming drivers. Rules on additional lamps vary by place, so check the current local rules; neither Onkyo's page nor our listing makes any approval statement. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 price and where to buy

The Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 has an India MRP of ₹16,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's price on the X-FLAF9+2 listing. Warranty terms and duration are set by Onkyo, so confirm them with us before ordering. Our store also lists Onkyo's X-WL711 and X-WL721 work lights.

The bottom line

Among the three single-colour 3-inch sets, the X-FLAF9+2 lists the highest wattage, lumens and high-beam power per lamp, and it alone lists an irradiation distance. It also has the highest MRP of the three, and its higher rating makes the wiring, the heat and the aiming matter more. With no owner reports and no test conditions behind the 500 m figure, read the lumen and distance figures as listing claims, not measurements, and let careful fitting do the rest.

Onkyo X-FLAF9+2 FAQ

What does the Onkyo X-FLAF9+2's 500 m irradiation distance mean?

Our listing says more than 500 m and gives no test conditions such as mounting height or the brightness measured at that distance. Onkyo's page does not carry the figure. Treat it as a headline number, not a promise about what you will see in fog.

How much power does the X-FLAF9+2 draw?

The listing gives 65 W per lamp on high beam, 130 W for the pair, and 45 W per lamp on low beam, 90 W for the pair. From a 12 V supply that is about 11 A and 8 A, our arithmetic and not a published rating.

How much more does the X-FLAF9+2 cost than the X-FLAF9?

The MRP is ₹16,990 against ₹14,990, which is ₹2,000 more. On the listings that buys 20 W and 1,500 lm more, plus an irradiation distance that the X-FLAF9 listing does not give.
