Onkyo X-FLAF21 Review: 100 W 2-Inch Fog Lamps, Wiring and Heat Notes

5 min read

The Onkyo X-FLAF21 is a pair of 2-inch Bi-LED projector fog lamps with a flat cut-off, rated at 100 W per set and listed at 5000 lm in our store, with 6000K white light, IP68 protection and a 9 to 32 V supply range. The India MRP is ₹15,990, which is ₹1,000 above the 90 W X-FLAF20 and the same as two 3-inch sets we list, and it is the higher-rated of Onkyo's two 2-inch fog lamp sets. It suits a buyer with a small fog lamp opening who accepts a 100 W load and will wire it with a proper fuse and relay. See the X-FLAF21 product page in our store.

Onkyo X-FLAF21 2-inch Bi-LED projector fog lamps, 6000K

Quick summary

  • Two-inch lenses, 100 W per set, 5000 lm and 6000K, with no per-lamp or low and high beam split in the listing.

  • Against the X-FLAF20 it adds 10 W for ₹1,000 and lists the same 5000 lm.

  • Our arithmetic puts the pair at about 8.3 A from a 12 V supply, so plan the fuse, relay and cable to that load.

  • We found no owner reviews or tests of this model in October 2026.

Wattage, lens size, voltage, protection rating, colour temperature, body material, lifespan and working temperature match Onkyo's X-FLAF21 page. The Bi-LED description, flat cut-off and lumen figure appear only in our listing; Onkyo's page does not carry them.

What 100 W asks of the wiring

Divide the 100 W rating by 12 V and the pair would draw about 8.3 A; on a 24 V supply the figure is about 4.2 A. Both are our arithmetic, not published current ratings, and neither Onkyo nor our listing gives a fuse size, relay or harness. Spread evenly, the rating averages 50 W a lamp, but the listing gives no per-lamp or low and high beam figures, so it also leaves open whether the set needs a two-position switch.

A fuse near the battery, a relay fed from it and cable thick enough for the load are the usual way to power auxiliary lamps. They keep the current off the stock fog lamp switch and wiring, which were built for the original lamps. Seal every joint, because IP68 covers the lamp and not your connectors.

Heat, bodies and bumper cavities

The listing describes an aviation-grade 6063 aluminium body and a working range of -40 °C to +105 °C, but not the cooling design or the size of the body. LED lamps turn much of their input power into heat, which the body has to shed. A closed bumper cavity has little airflow in an Indian summer, so leave air space around each lamp and keep wiring and plastic trim clear of it.

What owners and reviewers say about the Onkyo X-FLAF21

We found no owner reviews or independent tests of the Onkyo X-FLAF21 when we checked in October 2026. Our listing has no customer reviews, Onkyo's page is a specification list, which is promotional, and searches by model number found nothing relevant. Amazon, Flipkart and YouTube could not be searched with our tools, so reviews may exist there.

The nearest material concerns other products and dates from 2021. On a page of Team-BHP's auto lighting thread, a member who had bought 3-inch projector fog lamps asked whether the car's stock fog lamp wiring could carry a much higher-wattage kit, and called a suitable relay hard to source. In a different exchange, another member advised keeping the stock fog lamps because their plastic housing cannot take a higher-wattage bulb and can melt from the heat. That warning concerns bulbs in stock housings, whereas the listing describes complete lamps in aluminium bodies, but it is a fair reminder to keep plastic clear of the heat. None of this concerns Onkyo's lamps. If you own an X-FLAF21, tell us how it has gone.

Only the price and the wattage differ: the X-FLAF20 is ₹1,000 cheaper and rated 10 W lower, with the same lens, lumen figure and colour. Nothing in either listing shows that the extra 10 W produces more light, so treat it as a higher rating and not a proven gain. The same ₹15,990 MRP also buys two 3-inch sets: the X-FLAF9+1, listing 120 W and 7000 lm, and the X-FLAF9X, a 110 W tri-colour set with no lumen figure. A buyer whose opening takes a 3-inch lens therefore has more listed output to choose from.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the X-FLAF21 if your opening takes a 2-inch lens, you want the higher of Onkyo's two 2-inch ratings, and the extra ₹1,000 and 10 W over the X-FLAF20 do not bother you.

Look elsewhere if your opening takes a 3-inch lens, where the X-FLAF9+1 lists more at the same MRP, or you want the lighter load and lower MRP of the X-FLAF20. If you need a published lumen gain for the extra wattage, neither 2-inch listing provides one.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Check the opening, the depth behind it and the clearance for the lamp body and its wiring before you order. The listing gives the lens size and no other dimension, and mentions no brackets or harness. Ask us to check fitment, and note that our listing currently says all sales are final. Mount the lamps rigidly so that speed breakers do not shift the aim, and use grommets or sleeving where wires pass through metal.

After fitting, aim each lamp low, check the cut-off against a wall at night, and look again once the mounts have settled. Local rules on additional lamps differ, so check the current ones for your area; neither Onkyo's page nor our listing makes any approval statement. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Onkyo X-FLAF21 price and where to buy

The Onkyo X-FLAF21 has an India MRP of ₹15,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's price on the X-FLAF21 listing, which describes the set as a genuine Onkyo product. Warranty terms and duration are set by Onkyo, so confirm them with us before ordering. If you are also weighing Onkyo's grille-mounted lights, we cover the X-GRLS2 and X-GRLS3 in separate posts.

The bottom line

The X-FLAF21 is the higher-rated of Onkyo's two 2-inch fog lamp sets: 100 W against 90 W for ₹1,000 more, with the same 5000 lm. What it lacks is evidence, in the form of owner reports, beam data or a published lumen gain for the extra watts. Fit it only after you have measured the opening, planned a fused relay circuit and left the body room to shed heat.

Onkyo X-FLAF21 FAQ

Does the Onkyo X-FLAF21 need a relay?

Neither Onkyo nor our listing says. The set is rated at 100 W, and a fuse and relay sized to that load are the usual way to power lamps of that rating. Do not assume the stock fog lamp circuit can carry it, and have an installer confirm the wiring.

Is the X-FLAF21 brighter than the X-FLAF20?

The listings show the same 5000 lm and the same 6000K, with 100 W against 90 W. No beam angle or lux figure is published for either set, so the listings cannot show a difference in brightness on the road.

Does the X-FLAF21 have separate low and high beam settings?

The listing does not say. Unlike the X-FLAF9, X-FLAF9+1 and X-FLAF9+2 listings, it gives no low or high beam wattage, so settle the switching question before you plan the wiring.
