AudioControl A65 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons
Quick summary: the buying decision
The A65 is a pair of 6.5-inch coaxial speakers rated at 100 W RMS and 4 ohm. A coaxial puts the tweeter on the woofer's axis, so it fits a factory opening and is the simplest upgrade over stock speakers; check the 68 mm (2.67 in) mounting depth and 139 mm (5.47 in) cut-out against your doors before ordering.
AudioControl A65: what it is
The AudioControl A65 is a pair of 6.5-inch Altitude Series coaxial speakers rated at 100 W RMS and 4 ohm. A precision-moulded glass-fibre cone, butyl rubber surround and silk dome tweeter give warm, accurate and detailed sound from a single mounting location, making them an efficient upgrade for factory systems.
AudioControl's Altitude speakers share precision-moulded glass-fibre cones, butyl rubber surrounds, silk dome tweeters and steel slimline baskets for easier installation, and they are designed and engineered in the USA. The range covers the A65 coaxials, the A65CS2 component set and standalone A1 tweeters and A275C / A35C midranges for building a 3-way system.

Key features
2-way coaxial design: woofer and silk dome tweeter on a shared axis for full-range sound
Precision-moulded glass-fibre cone for warm, accurate reproduction
Durable butyl rubber surround for better low-frequency control
Structurally enhanced steel slimline basket for space-saving installation
Designed and engineered in the USA
Specifications explained
AudioControl publishes: power handling 100 W RMS; impedance 4 ohm; DC resistance 3.3 ohm; frequency response 65 Hz – 20 kHz; sensitivity 86.2 dB (1 W / 1 m) or 89.2 dB (2.83 V / 1 m).
The two sensitivity figures are the same measurement expressed two ways: for a 4-ohm speaker, 2.83 V equals 2 W, so the 2.83 V figure reads 3 dB higher than the 1 W figure.
Fitment: overall diameter 166 mm (6.53 in), cut-out 139 mm (5.47 in), mounting depth 68 mm (2.67 in), total depth 74 mm (2.91 in).

Fitment: will it fit your car?
Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. The A65 needs 68 mm (2.67 in) of mounting depth and a 139 mm (5.47 in) cut-out. Spacers or adapter rings are often needed in many cars, and a solid, sealed baffle with door damping makes more difference to midbass than the speaker change alone.
Crossover, filtering and placement
As a coaxial, the tweeter crossover is built in, so there is no separate crossover to mount.
Aim for a high-pass around 60 to 80 Hz if your head unit or amplifier allows it: removing deep bass lets the speakers play louder and cleaner, and a subwoofer can fill in below.
Amplification
An amplifier channel rated close to 100 W at 4 ohm, such as one channel of AudioControl's A600.4 (4 x 100 W at 4 ohm), suits them well.

Price and value in India
At the time of writing (October 2026), VA3 Car Studio lists the A65 at ₹19,540, 15% below the MRP of ₹22,990. Coaxials are the simplest speaker upgrade; budget a little extra for adapters and door damping, which often matter as much as the speakers. Prices can change, so the product page always shows the current price.
Verdict: who should shortlist the A65
The A65 is an easy, well-built coaxial upgrade for factory openings, especially with a modest amplifier. If you can mount tweeters separately, the A65CS2 component set images better.
Real-world reviews and limitations
We have not yet published a VA3 installation report for the A65. The figures in this review are AudioControl's published specifications, not our own measurements, and real-world results depend on the baffle, door treatment and the tune. If you have used one, we would welcome your feedback.
Frequently asked questions
What mounting depth does the A65 need?
68 mm (2.67 in), with a 139 mm (5.47 in) cut-out.
How much power can the A65 handle?
100 W RMS at 4 ohm.
Do the A65 speakers need an amplifier?
They will play from a head unit, but an amplifier channel close to their 100 W RMS rating gets more from them.
What is the difference between the A65 and A65CS2?
The A65 is a coaxial; the A65CS2 is a component set with separate tweeters and passive crossovers.
