AudioControl A65CS2 Review: Specifications, Fitment and Comparisons

Quick summary: the buying decision

The A65CS2 is a 6.5-inch 2-way component speaker system, rated at 100 W RMS and 4 ohm. Separate tweeters can be mounted higher, on the dash or A-pillars, than a coaxial allows, which lifts the stereo image towards ear level; the trade-off is a more involved installation with crossovers to mount.

AudioControl A65CS2: what it is

The AudioControl A65CS2 is a 6.5-inch Altitude Series component speaker set with 1-inch silk dome tweeters and passive crossovers, rated at 100 W RMS and 4 ohm. A precision-moulded glass-fibre cone and a lightweight aluminium dust cap deliver warm, accurate sound with extended response.

AudioControl's Altitude speakers share precision-moulded glass-fibre cones, butyl rubber surrounds, silk dome tweeters and steel slimline baskets for easier installation, and they are designed and engineered in the USA. The range covers the A65 coaxials, the A65CS2 component set and standalone A1 tweeters and A275C / A35C midranges for building a 3-way system.

  • Lightweight anti-phasing aluminium dust cap enhances sensitivity and extends frequency response

  • Precision-moulded glass-fibre cone and durable butyl rubber surround

  • 1-inch silk dome tweeters for smooth, detailed highs

  • Matched drivers and included passive crossovers; steel slimline basket for easy installation

Specifications explained

AudioControl publishes: power handling 100 W RMS; impedance 4 ohm; DC resistance 3.3 ohm; frequency response 65 Hz – 20 kHz; sensitivity 86.5 dB (1 W / 1 m) or 89.5 dB (2.83 V / 1 m).

The two sensitivity figures are the same measurement expressed two ways: for a 4-ohm speaker, 2.83 V equals 2 W, so the 2.83 V figure reads 3 dB higher than the 1 W figure.

Fitment: woofer overall diameter 166 mm (6.53 in), cut-out 139 mm (5.47 in) and mounting depth 2.04 in; tweeter cut-out 35 mm (1.37 in) and mounting depth 10 mm (0.39 in).

Fitment: will it fit your car?

Measure the factory opening and the depth available behind it, including clearance to the window glass and its channel at full travel. The A65CS2 needs 2.04 in of mounting depth and a 139 mm (5.47 in) cut-out. Spacers or adapter rings are often needed in many cars, and a solid, sealed baffle with door damping makes more difference to midbass than the speaker change alone.

Crossover, filtering and placement

The included passive crossovers (92 x 34 x 24 mm) split the signal between woofer and tweeter; mount them somewhere dry, such as inside the kick panel or behind the dash, rather than inside a wet door.

Mount the tweeters on the dash or A-pillars and aim them across the car towards the opposite seat as a starting point, then adjust by listening. Keep the woofer in a sealed, damped door.

Amplification

An amplifier channel rated close to 100 W at 4 ohm, such as one channel of AudioControl's A600.4 (4 x 100 W at 4 ohm), suits the set.

Price and value in India

At the time of writing (October 2026), VA3 Car Studio lists the A65CS2 at ₹25,490, 15% below the MRP of ₹29,990. Budget for installation as well as the set: tweeter mounting, crossover placement and door damping decide how good it sounds. Prices can change, so the product page always shows the current price.

Verdict: who should shortlist the A65CS2

The A65CS2 is a sensible first component set: easy to install with slimline baskets and small tweeters, and it rewards a modest amplifier and door damping.

Real-world reviews and limitations

We have not yet published a VA3 installation report for the A65CS2. The figures in this review are AudioControl's published specifications, not our own measurements, and real-world results depend on the baffle, door treatment, tweeter position and the tune. If you have used one, we would welcome your feedback.
