DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit Review: AMPKIT4, AMPKIT8 and AMPKIT0 Compared

6 min read

The DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit is a family of three copper-clad aluminium (CCA) amplifier installation kits: the AMPKIT8 (8 GA), AMPKIT4 (4 GA) and AMPKIT0 (0 GA). DS18 rates them up to 840, 1,680 and 3,500 W RMS, and the India MRPs are ₹3,490, ₹5,990 and ₹9,990. Each bundles the power, ground, remote, RCA and speaker cables with a fuse holder, for someone fitting one amplifier who wants the wiring in one box. Start with the AMPKIT4 listing.

Quick summary

  • Three CCA kits: 8 GA up to 840 W RMS (₹3,490), 4 GA up to 1,680 W RMS (₹5,990) and 0 GA up to 3,500 W RMS (₹9,990).

  • DS18's kit ratings are RMS only, with no supply voltage or test conditions printed. Match them to your amplifier's RMS, never its peak or max figure.

  • The conductor is CCA, not pure copper. DS18's OFCKIT range is the 100% oxygen-free copper alternative.

  • Only the maker's store reviews were readable: 13 for the AMPKIT4 (5 displayed), 4 for the AMPKIT8 and 4 for the AMPKIT0.

All three kits also include a 17 ft (5.2 m) red/black twisted RCA cable and a 17 ft remote turn-on cable (20 x 0.15 mm). Our listings add a rubber grommet, 10 cable ties, 2 ring terminals, 2 spade terminals and 5 small spade terminals. DS18's pages mention the grommet but give no counts for the cable ties or terminals. DS18's US pages show a 2-year warranty badge with no terms, so confirm India terms with us.

The figures follow our listings and DS18's pages for the AMPKIT8, AMPKIT4 and AMPKIT0, the maker's own marketing.

How to read DS18's RMS ratings

DS18 words each kit rating as up to a number of watts RMS. It prints no peak or max figure for the kits, no supply voltage and no test condition, so compare the rating with your amplifier's total RMS at the load you will run.

DS18's amplifier pages often print peak or max power beside RMS. Its G-series manual lists the DS18 G3600.1D at 3,600 W peak but 500, 900 and 1,200 W RMS at 4, 2 and 1 ohm, with a 4 GA terminal and an external 120 A fuse. It lists the DS18 G1000.4D at 1,000 W peak but 4 x 90 W RMS at 4 ohm and 4 x 150 W at 2 ohm (360 W and 600 W in total). Neither peak figure belongs beside a kit's RMS rating.

On the printed RMS figures, the G3600.1D's 1,200 W at 1 ohm sits under the AMPKIT4's 1,680 W, and its 120 A external fuse matches the kit's 120 A fuse. The G1000.4D's 600 W total at 2 ohm sits under the AMPKIT8's 840 W. That is arithmetic, not a DS18 pairing, and the manual states no supply voltage for its ratings.

What is in the box, and what is not

The power cable is a fixed 17 ft, so measure the real battery-to-amplifier path first. A longer run needs wire by the roll: our DS18 CCA Power and Ground Wire review covers DS18's 4 GA and 8 GA rolls, but not 0 GA. The speaker cable is also one 17 ft length, so more speaker runs need a spool such as the one in our DS18 SW-16GA-100RB review.

DS18's pages also disagree with themselves. The AMPKIT4 overview repeats the 0 GA kit's 53 mm² and 15.8 mm, while its spec table says 21 mm² and 10 mm, which our listing follows. The AMPKIT8 and AMPKIT0 web addresses say 800 and 3000 watts, but their key features say 840 and 3,500 W RMS, which we use.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit

When we checked in October 2026, the only owner feedback we could read was on DS18's own web shop, so these are the maker's store reviews, not independent testing. They carry no dates, and every review of the three kits sits in the top row of an unlabelled breakdown.

The AMPKIT4 page shows 13 reviews but displays five. Two seem to be about speakers and one is a placeholder, leaving two about the kit: one praises the material and calls it a great purchase, and the other says it worked perfectly with their amplifier. The AMPKIT8 page shows 4. One usable comment says the kit matched the photos and let the buyer finish the install. Another says it comes complete for an amplifier install, but that wiring up more than the amplifier needs a few more items. Two reviews read as if about an amplifier, so we set them aside. The AMPKIT0 page shows 4: two praise the contents and quality, saying it had all the components, was well organised and matched the photos, one is a brief positive comment, and one is only the product title.

A different kit adds a caution. DS18's page for the AK4, a 4 GA CCA kit that is not the AMPKIT4, has 9 maker's store reviews, with praise for quality and value and one reviewer who found it thinner than a competing brand's kit and not true 4 gauge. When any kit arrives, compare its cable with the outer diameters in the table above.

The AMPKIT against the OFCKIT

The DS18 OFCKIT review covers the 100% oxygen-free copper version in the same three gauges, with MRPs higher by ₹4,500 (8 GA), ₹11,000 (4 GA) and ₹25,000 (0 GA). DS18's ratings do not simply rank copper over CCA: the 8 GA kits are both 840 W RMS, the OFCKIT4 is 1,800 W RMS against the AMPKIT4's 1,680, and the AMPKIT0 is 3,500 W RMS against the OFCKIT0's 3,000. Fuses are 80, 150 and 250 A on the OFCKIT (8, 4 and 0 GA), against 60, 120 and 250 A here.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy a DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit if you are fitting one amplifier, accept a CCA conductor, and the 17 ft power run is long enough. Pick the gauge from your amplifier's RMS, fuse and terminal figures.

Look elsewhere if you want pure copper (the OFCKIT), need a longer power run (a roll), or plan to feed more than one amplifier, since each kit has a single power cable and fuse holder.

Installation notes for Indian cars

DS18's G-series amplifier manual, which covers its amplifiers and not these kits, says to fit an in-line fuse or circuit breaker within 18 inches (about 46 cm) of the battery, use grommets where wire passes through the firewall or other metal, disconnect the battery ground cable first, leave the fuse out until the wiring is done, and avoid sharp edges and hot or moving objects. As general practice, route the RCA cable away from the power cable and keep the ground short. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and DSP tuning.

Price and where to buy

The India MRPs are ₹3,490 for the AMPKIT8, ₹5,990 for the AMPKIT4 and ₹9,990 for the AMPKIT0. We often sell below MRP, so check the current price on each page. Our listings describe all three as genuine DS18 products.

The bottom line

The DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit is a one-box CCA install kit in three gauges. Match DS18's up to RMS rating to your amplifier's RMS and fuse, not its peak figure, and choose the OFCKIT if you want pure copper.

DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit FAQ

Is the DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit pure copper?

No. All three kits use CCA, copper-clad aluminium. DS18's 100% oxygen-free copper kits are the OFCKIT range.

Which DS18 AMPKIT Wiring Kit do I need for my amplifier?

Compare your amplifier's total RMS at the load you will run, not its peak or max figure, with the kit's up to RMS rating, then check the amplifier's fuse and terminal size. DS18 prints no supply voltage for the kit ratings.

Is the 17 ft power cable long enough?

Measure from the battery to the amplifier along the real route. The kit's power cable is a fixed 17 ft (5.2 m), so a longer run needs wire by the roll.
