DS18 SW-16GA-100RB Review: 16 GA CCA Speaker Wire on a 100 ft Spool

5 min read

The DS18 SW-16GA-100RB is a 16 GA speaker wire with copper-clad aluminium (CCA) strands, supplied on a 100 ft (30.5 m) spool with red and black conductors. The India MRP is ₹3,990. It is the 16 GA wire in DS18's Ultra Flex speaker range, whose shop page also offers 10, 12, 14 and 18 GA, and we list only the 16 GA. DS18 gives it no current rating, so it suits fitters who cut their own speaker runs and are happy with CCA rather than pure copper. Our DS18 SW-16GA-100RB listing has the details.

Quick summary

  • 16 GA CCA speaker wire, red and black, on a 100 ft (30.5 m) spool at ₹3,990 MRP.

  • The conductor is copper-clad aluminium, not pure copper. DS18 says the large insulated jacket gives higher thermal capacity and current flow, a maker claim with no figure behind it.

  • No current rating, cross-section or standard is published, so judge it by your speakers' power, impedance and run length.

  • The only reviews we could read are the maker's store reviews: 7 in all, every one in the top row, with 5 displayed.

What a 16 GA CCA build means in use

As general wire practice, CCA of a given gauge has more resistance than pure copper of the same gauge. On a short run to a door speaker that extra resistance is a small share of the speaker's impedance. It grows on a long run and matters more on a low-impedance load such as a subwoofer, which is where heavier wire is the safer choice.

DS18 calls the construction Ultra Flex, and flexibility matters most where the wire passes through a door jamb and bends every time the door opens. The red and black conductors let you keep polarity consistent from amplifier to speaker. The jacket and flexibility claims are the maker's description, with no figures behind them.

How far does a 30.5 m spool go?

Measure each run along its real path, through the door jamb, under the sill and along the floor. Add slack for door movement and a small service loop, then total the runs against 30.5 m. If the total fits, one spool covers it.

DS18's kits include speaker cable too, but only a single 17 ft (5.2 m) length. In the OFCKIT listings that cable is 18 gauge (0.81 mm²) in the 8 GA kit, 16 gauge (1.31 mm²) in the 4 GA kit and 12 gauge (3.31 mm²) in the 0 GA kit. DS18 does not say what speaker power each size is meant to carry, so read that as a size ladder and not a rating. Our DS18 OFCKIT review and DS18 AMPKIT review cover the kits.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 SW-16GA-100RB

When we checked in October 2026, the only owner feedback we could read was on DS18's own web shop, so it is the maker's store reviews and not independent testing. The DS18 page shows 7 reviews, all in the top row of the star breakdown, and displays five of them. The reviews carry no dates.

The praise is short and general. One reviewer says the wire works well, another calls it nice-quality wire that does not look or feel cheap, and a third says the quality is very good. One displayed review contains only the product name. None of the five says what speakers, run length or car it was used with. We did not find independent reviews or owner threads in the sources we could reach.

The SW-16GA-100RB beside the kits and Tchernov

For pure copper in the same 16 GA size, Tchernov's Supreme MK II is listed as 99.99% OFC in 18, 16 and 14 GA on 100 m spools. The pack size is more than three times the DS18 spool, so we compare no prices.

The power side of an amplifier install is a separate job, covered in our DS18 CCA Power and Ground Wire review, and the signal side in our DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable review.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the DS18 SW-16GA-100RB if you want a flexible, polarity-coded 16 GA spool for door speakers and tweeters, you are happy with a CCA conductor, and your runs are of ordinary length.

Look elsewhere if you want pure copper, a published rating or cross-section, or heavier wire for a long run or a low-impedance subwoofer. Also look elsewhere if you need only one short run, since the kits already include a 17 ft length.

Installation notes for Indian cars

DS18's G-series amplifier manual, which covers its amplifiers and not this wire, says to use wire grommets where cable passes through metal and to avoid sharp edges, hot objects and moving parts. Door jambs are exactly that kind of place: use a flexible boot or loom, leave enough slack for the door to open fully, and keep the wire off hinges and window mechanisms.

Seal the joints against monsoon damp with heat-shrink, and cut and strip each end cleanly so no stray strands touch the next terminal. If the door trims are off for wiring, it is the moment to deaden the panel, and our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and builds speaker pods and door baffles.

The bottom line

The DS18 SW-16GA-100RB is a plain, flexible 16 GA CCA speaker wire on a 30.5 m spool. DS18 publishes no rating, and the reviews we could read are the maker's own, short and positive. It looks a reasonable fit for ordinary speaker runs if you accept CCA, but with no published rating, heavier or pure-copper wire is the safer call for long or low-impedance runs.

DS18 SW-16GA-100RB FAQ

Is the DS18 SW-16GA-100RB pure copper?

No. The strands are CCA, copper-clad aluminium. DS18 describes the jacket as giving higher thermal capacity and current flow but publishes no current rating or cross-section for the wire.

How much wire comes on the DS18 SW-16GA-100RB spool?

The spool is 100 ft, which is 30.5 m, of red and black speaker wire with equal length positive and negative conductors, according to our listing.

Can I use the DS18 SW-16GA-100RB for a subwoofer?

DS18 gives no current rating, so check the subwoofer's power and impedance first. The extra resistance of CCA matters more with a low impedance and a long run, and heavier wire is the safer choice there. DS18's shop also lists 10, 12 and 14 GA versions.
