Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited Review: 1,100 W Class D Monoblock Explained

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited is a Class D mono subwoofer amplifier rated at 650 W RMS into 4 Ω and 1,100 W into 2 Ω, with a quoted signal-to-noise ratio of 102 dB and a signal path built around Burr-Brown OPA2134 op-amps. Its Indian MRP is ₹1,19,990, and it shares its 51 x 170 x 322 mm chassis with the two-channel MPS 2.150 Limited. It suits a sound-quality system built around one serious subwoofer. Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited Class D mono subwoofer amplifier

Quick summary

  • 650 W into 4 Ω or 1,100 W into 2 Ω (rated at 14 V), with a 2 Ω minimum load.

  • Low-pass 40–220 Hz, subsonic off/25/35 Hz and bass boost up to +12 dB around 45 Hz, plus an optional MPS-R1 remote level control.

  • Speaker-level signals need a separately sold Morel adaptor; Morel recommends a 100 A fuse and 4-gauge power cable.

  • We found no owner reviews or independent tests yet, so this review leans on Morel's own documents.

Power and bass controls in practice

The headline numbers are 650 W into 4 Ω and 1,100 W into 2 Ω, quoted at 14 V rather than the 14.4 V many makers use. The full 1,100 W needs a 2 Ω load: a single 2 Ω sub, a dual-voice-coil sub wired to 2 Ω, or two 4 Ω subs in parallel. Don't go below 2 Ω, Morel's stated minimum.

The 12 dB/octave low-pass filter runs from 40 to 220 Hz, the subsonic filter has fixed settings of 25 Hz and 35 Hz (or off), and the bass boost adds up to 12 dB around 45 Hz. The subsonic filter matters most with ported boxes, where the cone loses control below the port's tuning. Treat the bass boost carefully: 12 dB of boost asks for roughly sixteen times the power at 45 Hz, so it is easy to clip the amplifier or overdrive the sub.

The quoted 102 dB signal-to-noise ratio generally means little audible hiss in quiet passages.

Inputs, turn-on and factory head units

The RCA inputs have two ranges, 0.2–4 V and 0.8–20 V. Per the manual, speaker-level signals need a separately sold line-level adaptor. It names the MPS-LC for that job and also lists the MPS-HL high-to-low adaptor with a 50 Ω load resistor; we sell the Morel MPS HL, so ask us which suits your car. For a factory touchscreen with heavy built-in EQ, a DSP in front of the amp is the cleaner answer; our guide on the need for DSP in car audio explains why.

Turn-on is flexible: a 12 V remote lead by default, signal sensing, or DC-offset detection for cars where signal sensing is unreliable. A pass-through preamp output lets you send the same signal on to another amplifier. Morel lists the optional MPS-R1 remote for adjusting sub level from the driving seat; our MPS R-1 listing currently names only the MPS 1.550 and MPS 5.950, so confirm compatibility with us before ordering one.

Fusing, cabling and heat in Indian summers

Morel recommends a 100 A fuse and 4-gauge oxygen-free copper for the power cable, with a ground cable of the same gauge. The amplifier is specified to run from 8.1 to 16.5 V, so normal dips at idle with the AC running are within its range, though lower voltage still means less power for bass.

Heat needs planning. The manual asks for at least 50 mm of clearance around the chassis, mounting flat or vertical with the fins facing up, and keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heavy vibration. Its protection covers over-current, over- and under-voltage, short circuits and temperature, and after a thermal shutdown it resets once the heatsink cools to about 70°C. In a sun-baked boot, that clearance matters.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews or independent tests of this amplifier. OnlineCarStereo shows zero reviews, and the UK listings at Celsus ICE and Thomas Performance carry none. Japan's Response.jp profiled the MPS line in August 2024, but that feature describes the range without any listening impressions.

So there's no owner consensus yet, and descriptions of its build come from Morel and its retailers, which are promotional. If you own one, we'd welcome your feedback.

Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited vs JL Audio RD1000/1 and Zapco ST-1500XM III

The JL Audio RD1000/1 (₹94,990 MRP) is rated at 600 W into 4 Ω and 1,000 W into 2 Ω at 14.4 V, so the Morel is rated higher at a lower test voltage. Both offer +12 dB of bass boost at 45 Hz and the same three turn-on modes. JL quotes a signal-to-noise ratio above 80 dB (Morel: 102 dB), but has a wider low-pass range (50–500 Hz), differential-balanced inputs and an MRP ₹25,000 lower.

The Zapco ST-1500XM III (₹59,990 MRP) offers more power on paper, 800 W into 4 Ω, 1,150 W into 2 Ω and 1,600 W into 1 Ω, and includes a remote level control, at about half the Morel's MRP. Zapco quotes a signal-to-noise ratio above 85 dB, and its chassis is 375 mm long against the Morel's 322 mm. Choose the Zapco for output per rupee and the Morel for its quoted noise figures and component choices.

If 400 W into 2 Ω is enough for your sub, the Morel MPD 5.550 powers a sub and four speakers from one chassis. Morel's MPS 1.550 is a monoblock in the standard MPS series.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy it if you're building a sound-quality system with one strong subwoofer, want low noise and useful bass controls, and like the idea of a matched pair with the MPS 2.150 Limited, which shares the chassis and can be stacked using Morel's optional MPS-STKP plates.

Look elsewhere if you want maximum output for the money or a 1 Ω load, where the Zapco fits better, or if you need speaker-level inputs without an adaptor.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 322 x 170 mm, the amp typically goes on a boot side wall, behind the rear seat or on the back of a sub enclosure, keeping the 50 mm clearance. Don't hang it upside down under a parcel shelf, because the manual wants the fins facing up. Run the 4-gauge cable through a firewall grommet and fuse it close to the battery.

The box matters as much as the amplifier. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures to the sub maker's published volume, and our team in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited - another view

The bottom line

This is a monoblock chosen on specification rather than watts per rupee: 1,100 W into 2 Ω, a quoted 102 dB signal-to-noise ratio, sensible bass controls and a chassis that matches the MPS 2.150 Limited. It has no owner track record yet, and factory-system installs need an adaptor. For a carefully built sound-quality system, its specification makes a good case.

Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited FAQ

How much power does the Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited produce?

Morel rates it at 650 W RMS into 4 Ω and 1,100 W RMS into 2 Ω, measured at 14 V. Its minimum load is 2 Ω, so it isn't meant for 1 Ω wiring.

Can the MPS 1.1100 Limited work with a factory head unit?

Yes, with an adaptor. Morel's manual says speaker-level inputs need a separately sold line-level adaptor, and the amp offers signal-sensing and DC-offset turn-on so it can switch on without a remote wire.

What fuse and cable does the MPS 1.1100 Limited need?

Morel recommends a 100 A fuse and 4-gauge oxygen-free copper power cable, with a ground cable of the same gauge. Fit the fuse close to the battery.
