DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable Review: R3, R6, R12 and R16 Lengths Compared

6 min read

The DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable is a two-channel RCA interconnect with dual male RCA plugs, 100% copper OFC (oxygen-free copper) conductors, double-twisted wire and a red braided jacket. We list it in four lengths: R3 at 3 ft (0.9 m), R6 at 6 ft (1.8 m), R12 at 12 ft (3.7 m) and R16 at 16 ft (4.9 m), with India MRPs of ₹599, ₹699, ₹999 and ₹1,099. Level 2 is DS18's own range name, and its shop also sells Level 1 and Level 3 RCA cables that this post does not cover. The cable suits anyone carrying a line-level signal from a head unit or processor to an amplifier. The DS18 R6 listing is a good place to start.

Quick summary

  • One build in four lengths, from ₹599 (R3) to ₹1,099 (R16) MRP: 100% copper OFC, double-twisted wire and a red braided jacket.

  • Only the R12 and R16 pages carry DS18's competition-level wording. The R3 and R6 pages have none.

  • DS18 publishes no shield specification and no connector plating for these cables, so we claim neither.

  • The only feedback we could read is the maker's own store reviews: 4 for the R3, 4 for the R6, 6 for the R12 and 2 for the R16.

What DS18 publishes about the build, and what it leaves out

DS18 lists 100% copper OFC conductors with double-twisted wire under a red braided jacket, and calls the design Ultra Flex. All four descriptions say the braided jacket minimises signal interference, and the R12 and R16 spec tables add a line about cleaner sound transmission. Those are DS18's claims, and the pages give no test data for them.

Missing from all four pages are a shield specification and any connector plating. DS18's GEN-X G amplifier manual, which covers its G-series amplifiers and not this cable, asks for high-quality shielded stereo RCA cables. Treat shielding here as unconfirmed rather than assumed, and rely on routing to keep noise out.

Choosing between 3, 6, 12 and 16 ft

Measure first, then buy the shortest cable that covers the route with a little slack. Run the tape along the real path, under the trim, over the sill and round the seat mounts, not point to point. The R3 (0.9 m) suits a short hop, such as a processor mounted beside its amplifier. The R6 (1.8 m) and R12 (3.7 m) cover the middle, and the R16 (4.9 m) is the one for a long run from dash to boot.

The AMPKIT and OFCKIT amplifier kits we list each include a 17 ft (5.2 m) red/black twisted RCA cable, only 0.3 m longer than the R16. If you are buying a kit anyway, measure before adding a separate cable. Our DS18 AMPKIT review and DS18 OFCKIT review list the contents.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable

When we checked in October 2026, the only owner feedback we could read was on DS18's own web shop, so everything here is the maker's store reviews, not independent testing. The reviews carry no dates, and the star-breakdown rows are unlabelled in what we could read, so we say only how many sit in the top row.

The R3 page shows four reviews, all in the top row. One buyer runs it between an amplifier and a bass processor and says it sounds great, another says it works as described, and a third says it worked perfectly for their project. The R6 page also shows four, all in the top row, praising good quality, high-quality materials and, in one case, very high quality at a great price.

The R12 page shows six reviews, five in the top row and one in the next row down. Five are visible: four short positives (good and arrived in time, flexible, a great product for the price, and a one-line approval) and one that reads like a subwoofer review and may belong to another page, so we left it out. Which review sits in the lower row is not shown. The R16 page shows two reviews, both in the top row: one praises the quality and sound, the other reports good sound without noise.

These are short impressions, not measurements. We did not find independent tests or owner threads in the sources we could reach. If you have used one of these cables, tell us how it has held up.

The Level 2 cable beside the R1F2M, the kits and Tchernov

If one source output has to feed two amplifier inputs, the DS18 R1F2M (₹299 MRP) is a Level 2 Y-connector with one female jack and two male plugs. It is sold separately.

A first amplifier install can also buy everything in one box. The AMPKIT and OFCKIT listings each include a 17 ft red/black twisted RCA cable and a 17 ft turn-on cable alongside the power wiring.

For a cable with a published shield, Tchernov's Standard Coaxial IC lists a braid shield of more than 90%, which DS18's Level 2 pages do not give for their cables. Its MRP starts at ₹11,990 for the 1 m length.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable if your head unit or processor has RCA outputs and you want a flexible copper-conductor cable in a length that fits the route without a big coil. The R3 and R6 suit short links, and the R12 and R16 suit long ones.

Look elsewhere if your factory radio has no RCA outputs, because you will need a line-output converter first (our JL Audio LoC22 review explains the idea). Also look elsewhere if you want a published shield specification, or need more than 4.9 m in one piece, since the R16 is our longest.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Run the RCA cable down the opposite side of the car from the amplifier's power wiring, and cross the two at right angles if they must meet. DS18's amplifier manual says to avoid placing wires near hot or moving objects. In practice that means keeping the cable clear of seat rails and pedals, and tying it down so it cannot rattle against trim.

Seat the plugs fully at both ends and leave a small service loop, so the amplifier can be pulled out without tugging the connectors. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation if you would rather have the wiring routed for you.

Price and where to buy

The India MRPs are ₹599 for the R3, ₹699 for the R6, ₹999 for the R12 and ₹1,099 for the R16. We often sell below MRP, so check the current price on each page. Our listings describe each as a genuine DS18 product.

DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable - another view

The bottom line

The DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable is a flexible, copper-conductor interconnect in four lengths. DS18 gives no shield specification or plating detail, and the only reviews we could read are the maker's own, short and positive. Choose the length by measuring the route, keep the cable away from power wiring, and treat it as a signal link, not a cure for noise.

DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable FAQ

Which DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable length should I buy?

Measure the route from the source to the amplifier along the real cable path and add a little slack. The lengths are 0.9 m (R3), 1.8 m (R6), 3.7 m (R12) and 4.9 m (R16); choose the shortest one that reaches without strain.

Is the DS18 Level 2 RCA Cable shielded?

DS18's pages give no shield specification, so we cannot say. They list double-twisted wire and a braided jacket that DS18 says minimises interference. Keep the cable away from power wiring either way.

Does a longer RCA cable hurt the sound?

A longer run has more chance of picking up noise from nearby power wiring, and DS18's pages give no test data on it. Choose the shortest length that fits the route and keep it clear of power cables.
