Morel MDSP 10/8A Review: Ten-Output DSP Amp With Eight Amplified Channels

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel MDSP 10/8A is the most powerful model in Morel's MDSP DSP amplifier datasheet: ten processed outputs, eight of them amplified, with four channels rated at 80 W RMS and four at 160 W RMS into 4 Ω. The 160 W channels also deliver 160 W into 2 Ω or 320 W x 2 bridged, and two RCA line outputs remain for an extra amplifier. Its Indian MRP is ₹1,09,990, the highest of the four MDSP models we sell. It suits an owner planning a full active system, such as a three-way front stage with a subwoofer, run from one DSP. Stock and pricing are on our MDSP 10/8A product page.

Figures come from Morel's MDSP datasheet (hosted by a UK retailer) and the MDSP installation manual.

Eight amplified channels in two power tiers

Channels 1–4 are the 80 W tier and channels 5–8 the 160 W tier, and that split maps neatly onto a three-way front stage. Tweeters go on channels 1–2 and midranges on 3–4, both of which need modest power. Midbass woofers take channels 5–6 at 160 W each, and channels 7–8 bridge into one 320 W channel for a subwoofer. The two RCA outputs can then feed a rear-fill amplifier or a bigger sub amp such as the Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited.

A two-way front stage works too, with the spare 80 W pair running rear coaxials. Keep 2 Ω loads on channels 5–8, the only ones Morel rates below 4 Ω. Added up, the eight channels total 960 W into 4 Ω, the highest rating in Morel's MDSP datasheet, and the quoted THD+N stays under 0.03%.

Inputs and factory system integration

The input side matches the other full-size MDSP models. Eight speaker-level inputs can collect separate tweeter, woofer and sub feeds from a premium factory system, with channels 1–6 rated to 16 V RMS and channels 7–8 to 30 V RMS, and the mixer can sum them back into a full-range signal before input EQ evens out factory tuning curves. Where a factory amplifier is involved, SLAM's built-in load resistors stand in for the removed speakers so the original system stays on.

Aftermarket and digital sources have their own paths: two RCA inputs rated 0.1–2 V RMS, an optical input, and a USB input for stereo PCM up to 96 kHz/24-bit, with automatic switching between them available in the software. If you're new to processors, our explainer on the need for DSP in car audio covers the basics.

Tuning, Bluetooth and accessories

With ten outputs to set up, you'll want Morel's MDSP PC software, which connects by USB and covers routing, filters, delay and gain, presets and firmware. Filter options in Morel's installation manual run from full-range to high-pass, low-pass and band-pass, in Bessel, Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley alignments with slopes of 6 to 48 dB. Phone tweaks through the Morel MDSP App on iOS or Android, including EQ within plus or minus 12 dB, depend on the optional MDSP BT module, which the manual lists as Bluetooth 5 with aptX HD and which also streams music.

For a system with two MDSP units, the MDSP TL TuneLink cable lets one computer tune both at once. The optional DRC controller handles volume, sub level, source and presets.

Power, fusing and heat

Morel lists three 30 A fuses and 4 AWG power and ground cable. An amplifier rated at this much total output can pull hard on the electrical system, so expect voltage to sag at idle with the AC on and set gains with test tones rather than by ear. It's Class D, but eight working channels in an Indian summer still need airflow: mount it on an open board, not under carpet or inside a closed panel.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel MDSP 10/8A

As of October 2026, we've found no owner reviews, forum discussions or independent measurements of the 10/8A. Our searches surfaced only retailer listings. Morel's launch press release, dated 7 March 2026, quotes power of up to 80 W x 4 plus 160 W x 4 for the range, which matches this model's rating; it is promotional material.

That leaves the specification as the only evidence for now. Owners who've lived with one are welcome to tell us about it.

Morel MDSP 10/8A vs Alpine PXE-X120-8 and JL Audio VX800/8i

The Alpine PXE-X120-8 (₹1,05,999 MRP) also has eight amplified channels in two tiers, but at 4 x 50 W plus 4 x 25 W, which Alpine's manual rates at 10% THD. It takes twelve speaker-level inputs to the Morel's eight and offers twelve RCA outputs, built-in HD Bluetooth and a coaxial input, with 96 kHz processing like the Morel. Choose the Alpine for input count and outputs; choose the Morel for amplifier power.

The JL Audio VX800/8i (₹2,19,990 MRP) gives eight equal channels of 75 W into 4 Ω or 100 W into 2 Ω, or 4 x 200 W bridged, at 14.4 V. The Morel's 160 W tier and 320 W bridged outputs are rated higher, and its 80 W channels are close to the JL's 75 W. The JL costs about twice as much. The Awave DSP10D MAX (₹1,14,990 MRP) shares the ten-output, eight-amplified layout with equal channels at 90 W or 135 W on Awave's ratings. Within Morel's range, the MDSP 8/6A uses the same chassis with two fewer 80 W channels for ₹30,000 less.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the MDSP 10/8A if you're planning a three-way active front stage or a full front, rear and sub system, want factory integration with SLAM, and prefer one amplifier to a stack of them.

Look elsewhere if a two-way front and sub is all you need, where the MDSP 8/6A does the job for less, or if you need more than eight speaker-level inputs or more line outputs, where the Alpine is better equipped.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Eight speaker runs plus up to eight input feeds make this a wiring-heavy install, so plan cable routes, label both ends, and keep speaker cables apart from the power run. The 275 mm chassis typically goes on a boot board alongside the sub enclosure; under a seat is possible only in some cars.

A three-way front stage needs somewhere to put the midranges and tweeters, so VA3 Car Studio builds speaker pods for them and offers DSP tuning once everything is wired, alongside professional installation in Ghaziabad.

Price and where to buy

Morel MDSP 10/8A - another view

The bottom line

This is the MDSP for builders who want everything in one box: eight amplified channels in two power tiers, a bridged sub option, eight speaker-level inputs with SLAM and full PC tuning. Bluetooth is extra, the wiring is involved, and no owners have reported back yet. If you want a complete active system from a single amplifier, this is the MDSP model sized for it.

Morel MDSP 10/8A FAQ

How many amplified channels does the Morel MDSP 10/8A have?

Eight: four rated at 80 W and four at 160 W into 4 Ω. The 160 W channels also give 160 W into 2 Ω or 320 W x 2 bridged, and two RCA line outputs bring the total to ten DSP outputs.

Is the MDSP 10/8A the same as the MDSP8/10A?

Yes. Our listing notes that Morel's India catalogue calls the model MDSP8/10A, while Morel's datasheet and manuals print MDSP10/8A. It is the same amplifier.

Can the MDSP 10/8A run a three-way front stage and a sub?

On channel count, yes: tweeters and midranges on the four 80 W channels, midbass woofers on two 160 W channels, and the last two bridged into 320 W for a subwoofer.
