Morel MDSP 8/6A Review: Six-Channel DSP Amp With Staggered 80 W and 160 W Outputs

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel MDSP 8/6A is a Class D DSP amplifier with eight processed outputs, six of them amplified, and a staggered power layout: two channels rated at 80 W RMS and four at 160 W RMS into 4 Ω, with the big four rated at 160 W into 2 Ω or 320 W x 2 bridged. It takes up to eight speaker-level inputs plus RCA, optical and USB audio, and processes at 24-bit/96 kHz. Its Indian MRP is ₹79,990. It suits an owner who wants a full active front stage and a subwoofer driven from one box, with factory head unit integration. Our MDSP 8/6A product page shows current stock.

Staggered power: one box for an active system

Most multi-channel amplifiers give every channel the same rating. The 8/6A doesn't, and that suits how an active system actually uses power. Tweeters need little, so channels 1 and 2 at 80 W are plenty. Midbass woofers need more, which is where the 160 W channels come in. One example layout: tweeters on channels 1–2, door woofers on channels 3–4 at 160 W each, and channels 5–6 bridged into a single 320 W channel for a subwoofer.

That leaves the two RCA line outputs free for rear speakers through another amplifier, or for a larger sub amp such as the Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited if you'd rather use channels 5–6 for something else. Only channels 3–6 carry a 2 Ω rating, so keep channels 1–2 on 4 Ω drivers. Morel quotes THD+N under 0.03% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 98 dB.

Factory systems, inputs and SLAM

Premium factory systems often send tweeters, woofers and a sub their own feeds. The 8/6A's eight speaker-level inputs can collect all of them, then sum and equalise them back into a usable full-range signal. Inputs 1–6 are rated for up to 16 V RMS and inputs 7–8 for up to 30 V RMS, for hotter factory-amplifier outputs. When the factory speakers come out, SLAM switches in load resistors so the original system stays active.

An aftermarket head unit can connect through the two RCA inputs (0.1–2 V RMS), and a digital source through the optical input or the USB audio input, which handles stereo PCM up to 96 kHz/24-bit. The software can switch sources automatically. Turn-on comes from the speaker-level signal or a 12 V lead, with a remote output for any extra amplifiers. Our guide on the need for DSP in car audio explains why processing matters with factory head units.

Tuning tools and accessories

Serious tuning happens on a laptop: Morel's MDSP software talks to the amp over USB and handles routing, per-channel filters, delay, gain, presets and firmware. Filters come in full, high-pass, low-pass and band-pass forms, with Bessel, Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley alignment and slopes between 6 and 48 dB. For quick changes from a phone, the Morel MDSP App (iOS and Android) offers EQ within plus or minus 12 dB once the optional MDSP BT module is fitted; the manual describes that module as Bluetooth 5 with aptX HD, and it streams music too.

The MDSP TL TuneLink cable lets one computer tune two full-size MDSP units together, and the optional DRC controller handles volume, subwoofer level, source and presets from the driving seat. Our guide on setting up a DSP in your car covers the tuning process.

Wiring, fusing and heat in Indian summers

Morel specifies three 30 A fuses and 4 AWG cable for power and ground. Fuse the main cable at the battery and keep the ground short. Class D is efficient, but six channels driving a bridged sub still make heat, so mount the amplifier where air circulates, not under carpet or in a sealed side panel, and away from the spare-wheel well's moisture.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel MDSP 8/6A

Our October 2026 search turned up no owner feedback and no bench tests for the 8/6A. The UK listing at Thomas Performance has an empty review section, and its description of higher-power channels for midbass and sub is retailer copy. Morel's launch press release, dated 7 March 2026, is promotional and covers the whole range.

Until owners report back, the published specification is all anyone has to go on; if you run one, tell us how it's doing.

Morel MDSP 8/6A vs Zapco HB 810 II 8AD and Alpine PXE-R80-8

The Zapco HB 810 II 8AD (₹54,990 MRP) uses the same staggered idea with eight amplified channels: 4 x 35 W Class AB plus 4 x 100 W Class D into 4 Ω, 4 x 150 W into 2 Ω and 2 x 300 W bridged. Both take eight speaker-level inputs. The Morel's channels are rated higher at every comparable point (80 against 35 W, 160 against 100 W, 320 against 300 W bridged). The Zapco adds two more amplified channels, built-in Bluetooth, ten RCA outputs, a USB music player and a published 31-band EQ, for ₹25,000 less.

The Alpine PXE-R80-8 (₹68,999 MRP) has eight amplified channels at 35 W each, which Alpine's manual rates at 10% THD, six speaker-level inputs, HD Bluetooth and 48 kHz processing, with a published 31-band EQ and up to 8 ms of delay. It suits eight equal channels at modest power; the Morel suits a system that needs real power on the woofers and sub. Further up, JL Audio's VX600/6i (₹1,89,990 MRP) gives 6 x 75 W into 4 Ω at more than twice the price.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the MDSP 8/6A if you want an active front stage and a sub from one amplifier, need to integrate a multi-channel factory system, and have room for a 275 mm chassis.

Look elsewhere if you only need four channels, where the MDSP 8/4A costs less, or you want eight amplified channels, which the MDSP 10/8A offers in the same chassis.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 275 mm long, the 8/6A suits a boot side wall, the back of the rear seat or a false floor; under-seat mounting will only work in some cars, so measure first. Label every factory feed before tapping it, and plan which output drives which speaker before the first power-up.

An amplifier like this is only as good as its tune. VA3 Car Studio offers DSP tuning, builds custom subwoofer enclosures to a sub's published volume for the bridged channel, and handles professional installation in Ghaziabad.

Price and where to buy

MRP for the 8/6A is ₹79,990, and the live price is on our Morel MDSP 8/6A listing. We supply genuine Morel stock only.

The bottom line

The 8/6A's staggered power is its point: modest channels for tweeters, strong ones for woofers and a bridged option for a sub, all behind one DSP with eight speaker-level inputs and SLAM. Bluetooth costs extra and there's no owner track record yet. For a complete active system in one box, its layout makes a strong case.

Morel MDSP 8/6A FAQ

How much power does the Morel MDSP 8/6A have?

Morel rates it at 80 W x 2 plus 160 W x 4 into 4 Ω. Channels 3–6 also give 160 W each into 2 Ω, or 320 W x 2 when bridged.

Can the MDSP 8/6A power a subwoofer?

Yes. Bridging a pair of the 160 W channels gives 320 W into one sub. Alternatively, the two RCA line outputs can feed a separate monoblock amplifier.

Does the MDSP 8/6A have Bluetooth?

No, it needs the optional MDSP BT module, which plugs into the amplifier to add music streaming and a link for the Morel MDSP App. Only the smaller MDSP 6/4A has Bluetooth inside.
