Morel Ultimo PS 104D Review: An 80 mm-Deep 10-Inch Sub and the Box It Needs

Oct 7
6 min read

The Morel Ultimo PS 104D is a 10-inch shallow-mount subwoofer from Morel's Ultimo PowerSlim line, with dual 4-ohm voice coils, a 700 W RMS rating (1,800 W peak) and a mounting depth of about 80 mm. Its Indian MRP is ₹84,990, the same as our 12-inch Ultimo Ti SC 122 and ₹5,000 below the 12-inch PowerSlim, the PS 124D. It suits a buyer who wants an amplified 10-inch sub but can't spare the depth a conventional driver needs. You can check today's offer on our Morel Ultimo PS 104D product page.

Morel Ultimo PS 104D 10-inch shallow-mount PowerSlim car subwoofer

Key takeaways

  • A 3.1-inch (about 80 mm) mounting depth lets a full 10-inch cone go where a conventional sub won't.

  • Morel's published boxes are small: 0.5 cu ft (12.7 litres) sealed, or 0.8 cu ft (22.7 litres) vented.

  • The two 4-ohm coils wire to 2 or 8 ohms, and Morel suggests 350 W to 700 W RMS of amplifier power.

  • We found no owner reviews of this 10-inch; the EISA award retailers quote went to the 12-inch PowerSlim.

Figures come from Morel's PowerSlim installation guide and datasheet, and match our store listing. Morel's website returned an error each time we tried it in October 2026, so we read both documents through UK retailer Celsus ICE. They disagree on the voice-coil diameter, so we've left that out.

What Morel puts into an 80 mm-deep 10-inch

Morel's PowerSlim datasheet lists a Uniflow chassis meant to eliminate intermodular distortion, and EVC, Morel's external-voice-coil motor, which it says improves power handling and minimises distortion. The HexaCore cone is a multi-layer sandwich of carbon fibre and aluminium honeycomb, the motor uses an efficient double ferrite magnet, and the suspension is called Progression Field Symmetry (PFS).

That is manufacturer material, not proof of performance. The figure that matters most is the ±8 mm of linear excursion: a shallow driver can't travel as far as a deep, long-throw sub, so it relies on the right box and a sensible gain setting to stay clean.

Box options: 12.7 litres sealed or 22.7 litres vented

A sealed box of 0.5 cu ft (12.7 litres) gives an F3 of 42 Hz, the point where output is 3 dB down. A vented box of 0.8 cu ft (22.7 litres) is tuned to 26 Hz. Morel's guide recommends the vented box for the best overall performance and sealed when space is tight, and advises rounding the vent's opening and inside corners to keep port noise down.

Because the driver is so shallow, the box can be thin, but its volume still has to come from width and length. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures, so we can make one to Morel's published volume, shaped around your boot floor or seat space.

Wiring the dual 4-ohm coils and choosing an amplifier

The two coils wire in parallel for 2 ohms or in series for 8 ohms. Mono amplifiers make far more power at 2 ohms, so that is the usual choice for one PS 104D. Two Morel mono amplifiers we sell fall inside Morel's 350 W to 700 W window: retailer listings give both the Morel MPS 1.550 and the compact MPD 1.500 550 W RMS into 2 ohms. The MPS 1.550 takes the optional MPS R-1 remote bass knob, and its 25 Hz subsonic setting sits just under the vented box's 26 Hz tuning, which protects the cone below the port's working range.

For two subs, wire each in series and join the pair in parallel for 4 ohms. The Morel MPS 1.1100 Limited is listed at 650 W RMS into 4 ohms, about 325 W per sub, just under Morel's suggested minimum. A 1-ohm pair needs an amplifier rated for that load; the MPS 1.550 and MPS 1.1100 Limited are listed with a 2-ohm minimum. Set the gain with a test tone, and expect less output when the battery voltage sags at idle with the AC on.

What owners and reviewers say about the Morel Ultimo PS 104D

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews of the PS 104D. The US listing at OnlineCarStereo had no customer reviews, and its spec list contradicts Morel's guide in places, so we haven't used its figures.

The award on retailer pages belongs to the 12-inch model: EISA's 2023-2024 in-car subwoofer award went to the Ultimo PowerSlim PS12D. The EISA jury text covers that 12-inch sub, not this one. It praises deep, powerful and tonally accurate bass despite the shallow build, says the design saves boot space without giving up sound quality, and credits the suspension with controlling the cone's movement. That is an award write-up, not a long-term owner report. If you run a PS 104D, we'd like to hear how it has worked for you.

Morel Ultimo PS 104D vs PS 124D, Ti SC 102 and PSL 104

The Morel Ultimo PS 124D (₹89,990 MRP) is the 12-inch PowerSlim. It needs 86 mm of depth, keeps the 700 W RMS rating with a higher 2,100 W peak, and lists 83 dB against 82 dB. Its published boxes are larger, at 0.8 cu ft sealed or 1.4 cu ft vented.

The Ultimo Ti SC 102 (₹79,990 MRP) is a conventional-depth 10-inch with a single 2-ohm coil, rated at 600 W RMS; if depth isn't your constraint, compare it. The Morel PSL 104 (₹22,990 MRP) is a far cheaper slim 10-inch, rated at 4 ohms, with a 3.5-inch mounting depth. For a full-depth budget option, see our Morel Kinetic KS104 review.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the PS 104D if depth is the hard limit in your install, you'll give it an amplifier in Morel's 350 W to 700 W window, and you're prepared to pay Ultimo money for a 10-inch that lives in a thin, custom box.

Look elsewhere if you have room for a conventional sub, because the slim build is what you pay for and the full-depth Ti SC 102 costs less at MRP. If you'd rather skip a separate amplifier, look at Morel's powered PSL10AE.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Shallow subs suit awkward spaces: a false floor in a hatchback boot, a thin box against an SUV's rear seat back, or the gap behind a pickup's seats. Measure first, and remember that a vented box also has to fit its port.

Fix the box so it can't shift on broken roads or under hard braking, and mount the amplifier where air can circulate, because a closed boot gets very hot in summer. Grommet the power cable where it passes through metal, and fuse it near the battery as the amplifier's maker instructs. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation along with the custom box.

Morel Ultimo PS 104D - another view

The bottom line

The Morel Ultimo PS 104D is a specialist's 10-inch: about 80 mm deep, rated at 700 W RMS, and properly documented, with Morel publishing both a sealed and a vented box. There's no owner track record yet, and the EISA praise belongs to its 12-inch sibling. If depth rules out a conventional sub and you'll pair it with a 2-ohm amplifier in Morel's range, it's the 10-inch Ultimo we list for exactly that job.

Morel Ultimo PS 104D FAQ

What size box does the Morel Ultimo PS 104D need?

Morel publishes two options: a sealed box of 0.5 cu ft (12.7 litres) with an F3 of 42 Hz, or a vented box of 0.8 cu ft (22.7 litres) tuned to 26 Hz. Its guide recommends the vented box when space allows.

How should I wire the dual 4-ohm voice coils?

Wire the coils in parallel for 2 ohms or in series for 8 ohms. One sub usually runs at 2 ohms, where mono amplifiers make the most power. For two subs, coils in series and the pair in parallel gives 4 ohms.

Did the PS 104D win the EISA award?

No. EISA's In-Car Subwoofer 2023-2024 award went to the 12-inch Ultimo PowerSlim, which EISA lists as the PS12D. The 10-inch PS 104D shares the PowerSlim design but was not the model EISA named.
